2 years ago today I set up on my own. It felt like a big leap and a big risk.

It has been a lot harder than I thought, many hidden hours especially in the first 18 months but now all is falling into place and I love being part of Fire and Earth's new Leamington clinic. 🤩

They are a super dedicated team of Sports Therapists, Sports Massage Therapists, Physiotherapists and Personal Trainers. Recently Vicki a Personal Development Coach joined too.

I'm looking forward to the years to come to building further within this great team and offer our clients the highest standards of care.

I often get asked what ‘Biomechanics’ is. The way the foot, ankle, knee and hip all interact with each other. If you have foot pain it is important to look at the way all of these structures move. Dynamic assessment is key to understanding what is causing pain. After a diagnosis biomechanics can be altered through strengthening, footwear and if needed orthotics.

Muddy trainers but my feet are in tip top condition, knees and quads feeling strong for light evening runs 😎

World Diabetes Day is on 14 November 2022

I worked with Diabetic high risk patients in the NHS for 10 years. I witnessed too many patients have life changing toe, foot and leg amputations. They could be on kidney dialysis 3 x week and have sight loss too, affecting social and working lives.

Prevention is better than cure! Being diagnosed early is so important for all types of diabetes. Foot screening of circulation, nerve sensation/strength and skin examination could be the start of a diagnosis.

Complications can begin five to six years before some people actually find out they have type 2 diabetes. Diabetes leads to almost 9600 leg, toe or foot amputations every year. That's 185 a week. One in six people in a hospital bed has diabetes, and people with diabetes are twice as likely to be admitted to hospital.

Early diagnosis can save lives, prevent a medical emergency, and reduce the risk of life-changing complications later. Someone is diagnosed with diabetes every two minutes.

Menopause causes a decline in hormones that can make the body more prone to injury. Reduced collagen protein that forms the tendons and ligaments makes them weaker. The drop in hormones can also can cause muscle aches.

I am no expert in menopause but the summary of the talk was to question:
If the patient is still in pain and you have covered all the usual assessments and perhaps tried different treatments with no success question-could it be perimenopause or menopause?

October! I can't believe I've now been at the Therapy and Fitness Centre for 5 months! 😃
It's been great getting to know all the team of Sports Therapists, Sports Massage Therapists and Holistic Therapists based at the centre. I've welcomed my existing patients into the lovely new clinic and met lots of new ones.

Working alongside other healthcare professionals allows us to consider the patient within in a multidisciplinary team. The way the foot functions can affect the knee and hip.
