Good luck today Nicola ! And it's not too late to donate!
Nicola, another of our brilliant physios, has taken on a challenge for a very worthy cause - a muddy 5K run on June 8th to raise £5000 in order to sponsor and name a guide dog puppy and also add a brick to the path of remembrance at the Guide Dog National Breeding Centre in Lemington Spa. Any remaining donations will be donated to cancer research.
This is in honour of her uncle who sadly passed away unexpectedly, earlier this year; he was heavily involved in the Guide Dog Community, for many years, as a puppy breeder and raiser.
If anyone would like to donate, please follow the link below. https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/InLovingMemoryOfRichardNash

Progress! Stepping up the exercises after 2 weeks.
Lovely sunny run last night. No left hip and knee pain when running. First pain free run in a year. The rehabilitation must be working.
Sometimes physios also need rehab! When your strength test highlights significant weakness, the best thing to do is strengthen. (See previous post). It doesn't need to be complicated, but it does need to be consistent! Nicole is starting with a handful of simple exercises, not using equipment (apart from maybe a resistance band), she can do them anywhere, and they don't take much time. (Perfect for a working mum!) We'll be following Nicole's progress here; after all, the proof is in the pudding!
Nicole tore her left Glut Med years ago and never rehabbed. No surprise she feels the lack of strength affecting her sports performance more as time goes by! She'll be sharing her basic rehab here, to demonstrate that it needn't happen in a gym, or with special equipment, but as long as you're consistent you will see results.

Astonishing achievement! She not only made it to the 5th loop, she finished the race with 100 seconds to spare.
"In its 38 years, the Barkley Marathons has seen thousands begin its route, but only 17 athletes have finished the race. No woman has ever made it to the fifth and final loop until now."
British Athlete Jasmin Paris made history this morning, becoming the first woman in history to begin the fifth loop at the famous Barkley Marathons in Frozen Head State Park, Tennessee.
In its 38 years, the Barkley Marathons has seen thousands begin its route, but only 17 athletes have finished the race. No woman has ever made it to the fifth and final loop until now.
Previous female athletes to achieve ‘fun run’ status include Suzi Thibeault (1991, 1994), Nancy Hamilton (1991, 1993), Sue Johnstone (2000, 2001) and Beverley Anderson Abbs (2012, 2013).

📣Did you know... RICE (rest, ice, compression and elevation) is no longer the way to manage an injury⁉️ An injury wants PEACE for the first 3 days, and thereafter, it wants LOVE!
🔹P rotect (avoid activities that increase
pain)
🔹E levate (elevate the limb higher than heart level, often)
🔹A void anti inflammatories, including ice. (Research tells us they slow the
healing process!)
🔹C ompression (use a compression bandage to reduce swelling)
🔹E ducate (listen to the advice of medical
professionals)
&
🔹L oad (early movement promotes healing)
🔹O ptimism (a positive mindset sets the
stage for better recovery outcomes)
🔹V ascularisation (gentle aerobic exercise
promotes blood flow which
promotes healing)
🔹E xercise (an active approach to recover will restore mobility and strength to the injured area.)
Delicious Friday team lunch at The White Hart, who very kindly hauled out some Christmas decorations for our belated celebratory meal!
Meet the team at Physio Vineyards.
When ice, stretches, massage, rehab, and potions & lotions aren't making a difference, there's always radial Shockwave.
📣Gadgetry and feedback ... Who doesn't like a bit of both?! Our handheld DYNAMOMETER does just that ...‼️ It allows us to record how strong (or weak) a movement is, helps us make informed decisions with regard to rehab, and shows us the improved end result 💪.
