We have been discovering the incredible world of bees 🐝 and their importance in our wonderful world ….We have been investigating floating and sinking ……dancing colour knowledge into our memory boxes with the amazing Nats from Moo Music Central Dorset and Borders Music 🎶 ….and we have experimented with light casting shadows ….A busy two weeks of fun exploration ……with the most important factor of all … fun together 🥰❤️

It’s been a busy first two weeks back after half term …We have loved exploring our new school role play …there has been phone calls to the school office about who is being picked up and when …🥰… there have been music lessons🎶 ….and the school canteen has been serving up doughnuts 🍩😀🥰….

Out at Forest school we have been investigating Rainbows 🌈 ..we have learnt that we need light 💡 and water 💦 …and then the magical Rainbow colours appear 🌈🙌🏻🧐
We have used cd’s , water and a head torch 🔦 to discover the changes we see as we add light and water to the discs 🧐🌈😀…

We have also been on a nature walk finding the colours of the rainbow within the environment….🌹🍁🌼🍀…

We have loved using our large scale mark making skills to paint a rainbow …we had to use our thinking caps to make the colour orange using the colours we had , learning the wonder of colour mixing … 🎨

The garden has been alive with joyful discoveries of strawberries 🍓 in our veg patch and our sunflowers 🌻 are getting soooooo tall …we can’t wait to see their smiley faces …

It’s been a gorgeous last week of this half term …We had our sports day with our families and Moo Music Central Dorset and Borders fabulous fun with Nats ..🎶🥰…..

We are all set for our new focus themes after half term being “ Oh I do like to be beside the seaside ..” and off we go to school role play …. through these focus enricments we can fully prepare our school leavers for a smooth transition to their next exciting chapter and build our understanding of the environment…nurturing our numeracy , literacy , vocabulary and creativity along the way …🐬🐠🦑
So much fun to return to 🥰…..

It’s been fantastic fun getting ourselves ready for our sports day next week … We have been practicing our running, balancing, and spacial awareness as a team ….cheering each other on and absorbing the joy the sports day fun brings …🥰👟

The garden has sprung into life with our herb beds blossoming and seedlings growing by the day …the daily watering and weeding brings our awareness to the importance of taking care of our precious environment….🌱

And ….well what can I say about all the fun we have had making our scarecrow for the Witchampton open gardens scarecrow trail next bank holiday weekend …so many skills involved in the making of our fabulous “ Tin pot” …We were using our listening and attention skills to follow the instructions , our turn taking patience in waiting our turn considering others as we learn , our gross motor strength and dexterity pulling the hay out if the bale and stuffing the scarecrow and then of course our sense of purpose and satisfaction in a job well done ..👏👏👏🤩🙌🏻🥰

Well the weather has been quite a journey these last couple of weeks but it hasn’t held us back …
We have enjoyed Easter egg hunts ….taking part in our Easter fundraiser sponsored bunny bounce, where The Little Owls as a team bounced for 3 hours !!!👏👏👏👏🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🐰🐰🐰🐰🐰..Easter crafts ….rainmaker fun out at Forest school …..Moo Music joy 🎶 with the wonderful Natalie ..🎶🥰…and we have busily started to plant up our vegetable beds …..

A gorgeous two weeks of discovery and exploration…

We are now all reset for next term where we will be investigating the gift of travel ….transport ….countries around the world 🌎, languages ,time zones , flags , cultural cuisine , and soooooo much more ….😀

This fortnight we have become “ Geologists” discovering rocks 🪨 in all their beauty ..out at Forest school we were surprised to find so many different types …we processed them as if to be searching for gold …washing them with paintbrushes 🖌 to unearth their true identities…..
We have been “ story tellers “ immersing ourselves in world book day we dressed up as our favourite characters from our favourite stories and enjoyed sharing the books together ..🥰…
We have also been “ Nature conservationists “ using our incredible senses to spot the “Spring” changes in the environment around us …. 🌸🌼🪹🍃

…….and of course we have been friends 🥰 learning , growing and playing together …..nurturing our communications as we pretend to be the “ mummy cooking breakfast in the mud kitchen “…or the “ Grandad reading stories to his children in the book corner “ …..or even the zoo staff “ feeding the dinosaurs hand cut grass 🦕 in the garden “ …..

The garden centre has been an absolute hit … there have been many bargains to buy and the till staff have been working flat out to serve all the busy customers with their trolleys filled to the top 🙈…. It’s been magical hearing the vocabulary this role playing area is inspiring…
“ What seeds are you buying?”
“ I’m going to grow carrots “
“ that will be £100 please” ….☺️….

Out at Forest school we have been enjoying learning all about Mud !!! What is mud ??? What words can we use to describe it ? Why is mud sometimes dark brown and some times pale in colour ?? It’s been fantastic looking closely at what’s inside the mud to be able to build our understanding..

Today out on our rainy day muddy walk we spotted conkers sprouting !!! We are going to try to grow some conker trees now !!

We had a fabulous Moo Music session with the lovely Nats yesterday …Maggie Moo 🐮kindly gave everyone a sticker at the end ❤️☺️🎶

The children are blossoming in all areas of their learning right before our very eyes …the gorgeous precious gem that is the early years chapter .. ❤️☺️

It’s been an exciting two weeks with so much going on ….

…Forest school bird feeder making , bird watching and Moss hunting !!!and even a Moss sensory walk ….

…Moo music 🎶 joy with the wonderful Natalie …this was even bird watching themed which consolidated our learning beautifully….

…Sensory tray Ice explorations…..who is stuck in the ice …how on earth do we get them out ??🧐

….Chinese new year celebrations ..Chinese dancing , dragon 🐉 dancing, exploring Chinese foods , writing , numbers , and so much learning about the fabulous Chinese New Year traditions …

…Valentines day crafts ….large collages, clay hearts , learning songs …making kindness potions …

It’s been a chilly busy couple of weeks …and we have been enjoying discovering the sparkle and sensory awakenings of the frosty winter weather ….

Out at Forest school we have made rain catchers to measure the difference in rainfall out in the open and under the shelter of trees 🌳…

Inside we have been learning all about hibernation …we made some delicious cinnamon rice pudding as we decided that if we were to hibernate this would be a wonderful feast to keep us going ….🥰

This week in honour of burns night this Thursday we have been learning all about Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿…looking at its flag, trying on tartan kilts and scarfs , spotting Scotland on the map, making Scottish shortbread, stirring up the porridge 🥣 and even learning some Scottish dancing 💃…..

So much fun …so many learning moments and most importantly lots of happy memories being made ….🥰🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿❄️🦔🌳

Whooohooo 2024 is here and we are loving it !!! We have started the year with some fabulous winter time discovering … we have been very busy building our knowledge and understanding of what is happening in the world around us …We have been thinking about the weather, the animals , the changes in the trees and environment ….and soooooo much more as you can see ….

It’s been a fabulous two weeks of fun exploring stars , light and darkness here at Little Owls …
We have taken our learning to Forest school and investigated the wonder of light and dark in relation to our beautiful world 🌍. We have been on star hunts, made dens and made our very own natural resources star ..⭐️

We have been lucky enough to welcome Nats from Moo 🐮 music 🎶 for a fabulous session of music and dance fun ..🎶…

Christmas has just arrived too and the Little Owls have been very busy making, wrapping and ordering in the Santa’s workshop …The children have also decorated the tree with great care…🎄☺️

We are enjoying learning the Christmas story and are loving singing Christmas songs …🎶☺️ Happy, happy days …☺️🎄

It’s children in need …. Let’s come together to bring kindness to those who need it most 🥰☺️🙌🏻

What a learning filled week it’s been….Celebrating Diwali has been so much fun …We have learnt so much about the traditions followed during this beautiful festival of light ..🪔🙏

In this multicultural world we feel so passionate about nurturing a love and respect for all cultures and this week has been a real celebration of this ..🥰

On the nature trolley it’s been Badger 🦡 week .. We have learnt that badgers are nocturnal , that they live in homes under the ground called a “set “ and that they love to use their claws to dig for worms … We have consolidated our learning by going on a worm hunt pretending to be badgers 🦡 digging with our claws …we were very excited to find that by the badger clues under the leaves was treasure ..😀

It’s a special week of remembering how blessed we are to live such free lives .
….The Little Owls made their own poppy‘s for our windows and we had a quiet pause to think of those we care for …❤️ We have talked about the word remembrance and how the poppy is a symbol of this nurturing our ability to take the time to stop and think of others …

On the Nature trolley we have been thinking about fire 🔥…We have talked about the golden safety rules around fire and how we can keep everyone safe . We thought about what we would do if we came across a fire …who would we tell ?…and to always remember that we must keep our distance from it.

We had a great time enjoying marshmallows on a campfire and took our learning to Forest school in a role play campfire actvity gathering dry grasses and sticks along the way …

It’s been Hedgehog 🦔 week at Little Owls this week and we have absolutely loved learning all about these incredible creatures …..building our understanding and vocabulary with incredible words such as hibernation and nocturnal….🦔🙌🏻
We made our very own Hedgehogs enjoying the sensory explorations of clay , pine cones ,conkers , sticks and stones ….we named our hedgehogs bringing them to life …🥰🦔

In the garden we have been busy digging and making pumpkin potions adding herbs from our herb beds ….

An autumnal week of discovery and fun with with friends ..🎃🍁🦉

It’s been pumpkin week ….and what incredible fun we have had ….

We went on a pumpkin hunt …we hammered nails into pumpkins to keep building our fine / gross motor skills,we rolled pumpkins down pipes, we counted pumpkins , we ordered them in size , coloured in pumpkins ..🎃😀 we just absolutely loved having pumpkins everywhere …☺️

We have also been playing memory games to build our attention and focus skills as well as enjoying music time 🎵 exploring rhythm and pace …

Such a wonderful week to finish the half term …🎃❤️🦉

It’s been all about spiders this week at Little Owls… threading the focus of spiders throughout our learning we have learnt about spiders and why they spin webs, how to catch real webs , how to draw web patterns , how many legs spiders have , and singing Incy wincy as we explore 🕷😀
The number 8 has been heard everywhere as we use the 8 legs of spiders as inspiration to build our knowledge around the number ….the numeral 8 has been popping up around the garden surprising us ..continuing to reinforce the familiarity with it…👌🏻

Happy , focused nature led learning …as we say goodbye to week and hello to the weekend our hearts are smiling after a week of spidertastic fun 🕷☺️🍁

This week it’s been all about Sticks on our nature trolley …
We went on a stick hunt at forest school and found tall sticks, heavy sticks , tiny sticks, bumpy sticks , spikey sticks, smooth sticks and light as a feather sticks …. So much enriched vocabulary learning just by thinking about the different properties of the sticks that we found ….🌟👌
Using sticks we played music and tapped along keeping to the beat 🎵building our early literacy skills of rhyme and rhythm… we changed the beat to be slow or fast building our speed vocab too ….

We have been enjoying the autumn 🍂 leaves and warm sunshine ☀️… tidying up the veg beds …

This week Autumn has most definitely arrived and the wonder of trees loosing their leaves has been magical to explore.

We have loved learning the tree names using their leaves as clues and have been using the leaves throughout this weeks explorations .
Leaf floating, counting , painting , printing , catching and sensory crunching under our wellies …. Leaves are truly wonderful 🍁🥰

It’s been Mushroom week on the nature trolley so we have built on our understanding of the natural world learning where and when we might see mushrooms . We have learnt about mushroom safety and not touching mushrooms to keep us safe. 🍄👌🏻

In the garden our construction skills are being fine tuned as we independently access the wood 🪵 and tools 🛠 to create our chosen ideas …👷‍♂️🏡

We are also continuing to build our self awareness , looking closely at our faces 👀👃and how we are all same but also all unique ….nurturing our sense of community and togetherness as a group alongside our individuality ..🥰

It’s been Apple week and we have enjoyed making apple crumble, going on an apple hunt, seeing what’s inside an apple ?, using apples to mark make , ordering apples in sizes , sharing out apples so we have the same number, and even apple wheelbarrow races ….So much learning from these wonderful fruits .
We have also continued developing our theme of Super Duper You ! We have been using playdough to represent our faces, we have used lolly sticks to build our houses and out at Forest school we made representations of our faces using natural resources ….☺️

Whooohoooo….we are back together 🥰….it’s been a wonderful week of settling back in , welcoming new family members and introducing our “Super Duper You “ theme .
We have been using mirrors to look at the details of our faces, making our faces using 3D resources , painting family tree hands pictures and thinking about what makes us feel happy ?
Out in the garden the bike shed is an absolute hit and our Little Owls are loving self accessing their bikes and are even hanging out in there as it’s offered some lovely shade this week !
Our bumper crop of strawberries , tomatoes and beans have been keeping us very busy too.
