Fundraising in aid of No5 Young People at the Wokingham Walk Autumn 2024 - read all about it:
Just over two weeks ago, Anne Williams , Paul Cowan, and I completed the The Wokingham WalkWalk—a stunning 5-hour journey through the beautiful countryside around this magical town. We took on this challenge to support No5 Young PeopleNo5 Young People, a vital organisation that has been providing free, confidential counselling to 11-25-year-olds in the RG postcode area since 1971. It’s such an essential service for young people in need!
Our JustGiving page remains open until 1st November, so if you’re considering donating, now’s the perfect time to make a difference! So far, we've raised £382 and would love to hit our target of £500. A massive thank you to everyone who has sponsored us so far—every penny truly counts!

Some nice photos in the Bracknell News of last Sunday’s walk - are you in them? 👀
Dozens step out for Wokingham Autumn Walk Dozens of people stepped out over the weekend to raise money for a charitable cause that is so dear to our town.
Sunday’s Wokingham Walk organised by Wokingham Lions Club was a great success!. The weather was a little chilly, but dry, with bright spells, and walkers took advantage of this to enjoy a choice of 5-, 10- and 15-mile routes, all starting and finishing at Elms Field, in Wokingham town centre.
Some fantastic feedback has been posted on social media by participants, including these comments: “Thanks to everyone involved in the organisation, really good route, we had never walked along the Blackwater before” (15-mile route) and “I just wanted to thank the organisers of The Wokingham Walk, Autumn 2024 and Wokingham Lions Club. With the 10-mile walk, it was really nice to see different areas of Crowthorne and the countryside beyond as well as the familiar Wokingham town and countryside”.
Some walkers also took the opportunity to raise funds for their favourite charities. One family walked for The Thames Valley Air Ambulance after they helped them this year, saving the life of their child. Two walkers, who shared the walk, told us they had raised around £1,000 for The Alzheimer’s Society and Me2, whilst another family were supporting the National Autism Society. A small group were walking for No5, which supports young people aged 11-25, who live, work or study in the ‘RG’ area, with their mental health.
Wokingham Lions Club were again helped in the organisation of the event by the Ollie Young Foundation, their supporter’s ‘younger legs’ did a lot of the setting up and taking down of the route. Some of the profits from the event will be going their way. They also had one of their supporters walking the route, and despite having had a replacement hip not too long ago, he completed the 10-mile route, raising around £1,000 for them!
Thanks also to our event sponsor Clifton Ingram, and to Nuffield Health for their offers of hot showers and saunas for walkers!
Wokingham Lion, Andy Slay, told us “We are really happy with the support this event attracts. Although final figures are yet to be calculated, we will have made a significant amount for local charities and good causes, including of course the Ollie Young Foundation. It was good to see people using the event to explore the countryside around Wokingham, catch up with friends and family, get some great exercise, and of course our thanks to those who use the Wokingham Walk to raise money for causes close to their hearts”.
The next Wokingham Walk will be on Sunday April 13th, a slightly earlier date than usual due to Easter being late in 2025. Hopefully, the bluebells will have started flowering, and walkers may even catch some late daffodils!

What a difference a day makes! ☔️
Thank you to everyone who took part in today’s Wokingham Walk! Over 300 walkers braved the elements and completed our 5, 10 or 15 mile routes. As you can see from the pictures we had some challenges with flooding around the route - around 20mm of rain fallen overnight. Thank you to everyone who worked to help us overcome the challenges, and to our walkers who took it all in their stride!
We’ll be able to announce how much the event has raised soon - and we know that lots of walkers also raised sponsorship for many deserving causes.
Thank you to Ollie Young Foundation who helped us with the route, to Nuffield Health Wokingham for their offer of facilities for walkers, to Tesco Wokingham for food and volunteer support, to Aldi UK & Morrisons Wokingham for food, to SHARE Wokingham for bottled water and to our sponsors Clifton Ingram.
