Happy New Year β™₯️

2023 has been a tough year of change and resilience. I am so grateful for clients, old, current and new πŸ₯° and the kindness of new communities.

Now, wow, 2024 will be the year of incredible growth and learning πŸ”₯ I've been offered an amazing opportunity to be a part of Nuffield Health in a Senior Role, supporting the Wokingham community, starting this January.

I, as Emma Sowerby PT , will continue to be here for you, online here and in person, personal training from the gorgeous PT:U - Personal Training Gym with exclusive spots (get in touch to get on the waiting list) and as part of the beautiful Re-flection Wellness team with my Monday and Wednesday Evening classes 🀩

Post LIIT Sweaty Selfie 🀩

Reflecting after a fab evening class at

14/14 wonderful humans smashing LIIT (Low Intensity Interval Training) on this chilly Monday Evening!!

We got a little hot and sweaty, the heart and lungs working, testing our comfort zones.

We worked as a team as we moved, each person taking each exercise in their stride, picking the intensity and variations right for them!!

Classes are a wonderful way to challenge yourself, adding variety to your week while being a part of a beautiful community, supporting each other on their unique fitness and wellness journeys.

When I work with clients, we really keep it simple, focusing on building a beautiful foundation of compound movements.

We work on technique to build confidence, prevent injury, create mind/ body connection, which then supports you as you try new varitations of moves, new classes, new activities, as you pick up heavier weights. It even filters out into life with functional movement.

So don't disregard the basics. They're good'uns ❀️

Challenge yourself and discover more about YOU!!

Stop talking yourself out of change and effort. It might be fear in the moment to try, it might be fear of failure, fear of investing our time and money, fear of letting others down, fear of letting ourselves down. It is completely normal.

BUT you are holding yourself back from progress and discovery. You are capable of so much more and that includes stepping out of your comfort zone, saying no to fear and surviving the uncomfortable.

Don't wait till the new year to choose you!!

What can we do over the next couple of months to start making positive changes? What can you do NOW!

πŸ’§Drink more water - could we drink an extra cup of water a day to start?

🍷Reduce your alcohol intake - party time is coming and you can still have fun so why not have fun making some non-alcoholic cocktails.

πŸ₯© Increase your protein intake - Build your meals around proteins and get those veggies involved (think rainbow plates).

πŸ’€ Make sleep a priority - Let's start aiming for 7 to 9 hours of sleep.

πŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸ‹β€β™€οΈMove your wonderful body - Be consistent in your Strength Training and add activities that you enjoy like walking, dancing, group classes (there is so much choice).

😎 Give yourself time to rest and recover - Really take the time to chill out with no guilt and no judgement.

🫢 Keep yourself accountable - Ask for support from your family, from your friends, from a coach, from me.

πŸ“– Finally, have a plan. We are more likely to stick to a plan so give yourself the best chance.

'Walking brings me back to myself' 😍

What an absolutely beautiful soggy sunday!! A little rain won't stop us!! Waterproofs on!!

It's amazing to move my feet, to test my body, to expand my mind, to be present, in the sunshine, in the rain, surrounded by green... And a bit of mud πŸ˜….

If you allow yourself the space, walking in nature can be a form of meditation, while getting in your steps. Connecting with yourself and the landscape around you. No judgement, just one foot in front of the other 😊

So whatever the weather, take advantage of something so simple but so gloriously good for us!!

Be Kind ❀️ ....
... to yourself!!!

Your body and your mind.

Let go of the idea that you have to look a certain way, be a certain way, act a certain way and start making compassionate conscious mindful decisions when it comes to nourishing yourself with movement, nutrition, lifestyle habits and wellness tools.

When we are unkind to ourselves, we tend to act and think harshly, reaching for quick fixes and short term highs, not thinking about our physical health and mental wellness, leading to unsustainable change, with a side of injury, illness, burnout, guilt. In the end, we go back to where we started or worse.

So give yourself permission to start being kind to yourself. Through your thoughts, through your actions.

And you don't have to do it alone. It's easy to forget to be kind to yourself, understandable if you don't know where to start, tough to keep yourself accountable when unkind is your go to. That's where I come in!

Take a moment for you ❀️

As someone who struggles with anxiety on the daily, especially when alone with my thoughts, the chance to move and be around a supportive community is key!

Thats why I think a Personal Training Session or Group Fitness Class is an incredible and essential tool to get present, move and connect with your body, with no judgement, concentrate on technique, laugh and smile with your coach and the people around you, and give your mind a break.

The pros are physical, psychological, physiologically ❀️

So take the time for you! We need this and deserve this 😊

I seem to be glowing ✨️

What a fab evening at Re-flection Wellness teaching Power 45 and Total Tone.

We had strength and power, speed and rest, beginners and regulars. Everyone nourishing their minds and bodies with movement!!

By moving, strength, conditioning, cardio, we are being in the moment, leaving with more energy, reducing our anxiety by focusing being in the present, having a beautiful rush of endorphins, getting the heart racing, muscles aching. All the good things for our wonderful bodies and unique minds.

Wowed by the incredible individuals that I get to work with πŸ₯°

How lucky am I to see Personal Training Clients and Class Members realising that they can choose to prioritise themselves.

Feeling proud of themselves, rightly so, and celebrating their wins, getting out of their comfort zones and surprising themselves.

Discovering how brave they are, that they shouldn't underestimate themselves and what works for them. Becoming self aware and self accepting with self love and self compassion.

Building resilience and approaching bad days with understanding and love.

Wow, they are making sustainable changes for long-term physical and mental wellness πŸ₯°

When you learn to embrace this journey, it is incredible how it can filter into other elements of life.

I think this work is so so important. We all need this after being taught by past experiences and media how we should look, feel and act. And the Short term highs and quick fixes that we reach for and are desperate for don't serve us and actually do more harm and hurt. You deserve more than this!

I lost track of time so I walked instead ..

Due to client holidays, I had a pretty free day, so I went for it on some admin πŸ˜… which meant I, of course, missed when I had meant to gym today. My plan didn't go to plan!

But that's OK!

New plan.. I shut my laptop and with an hour to go till an afternoon PT with two fabulous clients, I walked the 40 minutes to PT:U - Personal Training Gym . I focused on getting my steps in instead, a brilliant underutilised form of exercise. I moved with the time I had.

Tonight, I draw a line for tomorrow and make a plan to get in some strength training.

So when things don't go to plan, don't worry! There is always a plan b... c... d 😁

I’m Emma, and I am a sensitive introvert.

And this is why I harness lifestyle habits, movement and mindset tools 😊

I have worked hard to understand who I am, and am learning to embrace myself, the highs and the lows. So many beautiful things come from being sensitive, being introverted but I do struggle.

I know that my lows bring anxiety and overthinking, exhaustion and emotion so I have learnt that I need to show up for myself daily to calm and re-energise my body and mind.

By choosing the healthy habits I needed, movement that I loved, mindset tools to reset my system (examples in the comments) I have reduced my anxiety, increased my energy, confidence and joy, accepted that I can get it wrong and built resilience so that I can cope better with ups and downs.

So how does this relate to this beautiful work with you.

I truly respect diversity and experience and it is my calling to share this journey to inspire you wonderful individuals to start choosing yourselves!

Today was scary 😬

Soo.. cycling gives me reaI fear. You just have to see my palms and the imprint of the handles left in my skin πŸ˜… but it was so beautiful today and I wanted to tiptoe out of my comfort zone so I got a little lesson in Mountain Biking.

And... although I might not have gone very fast, I stayed upright and had an absolutely scary but wonderful time. What a win!!

Fresh air, beautiful scenery, body worked, got a sparkle on, big smiles, I would have missed out on so much if I hadn't gone.

So a reminder for us 😊 being scared does not have to hold us back. We can step out of our comfort zone. Experience and grow (just be safe of course).

What a wonderful week of clients choosing themselves and nourishing themselves!

It reminds me that we need to make the time for our habits, our self care, connection and check in, intentionally implementing rituals and habits into our life that will look after physical health and mental wellness, our bodies and our happiness!

Wouldn't it be wonderful to focus on feeling confident, powerful and resilient, wherever we are in our journey, rather than punishing ourselves with negative talk.
