The Dfe have listened to the sectors concerns and have now shifted to ‘government-funded’ instead of using the word ‘free’ in their communication with parents and carers about childcare. Labelling the hours as ‘free’ has led to many unrealistic expectations across the sector and this move should hopefully make things a lot clearer 🤞🏼

Give a regular gift to St Richard’s and you can make an ongoing difference to people like Lesley and her family 💙
Pam shares the story of her daughter Lesley…
“She was a wonderful Mum to Tyra, 16, Etta, 3, and Lua, 17 months old. She was also a brilliant midwife – a career that made us all very proud.
“Lesley was in hospital for nine days where she was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. She was discharged to St Richard’s on 17th November 2023, her 38th birthday.
“The staff at the hospice gave Lesley and us, as her family, an incredible welcome – greeting Lesley by singing Happy Birthday and baking her a lovely birthday cake.
“Lesley was given the most amazing care and shown so much dignity from the whole team at St Richard’s. They provided such kind support at the most tragic of times in our lives and Lesley was so thankful and grateful for this as were we.
“Lesley died peacefully eight days after being admitted. We do not have words to express the gratitude we have for all the fabulous staff at the hospice.”
By becoming a monthly giver to St Richard’s, you will be joining our amazing group of supporters who believe in our care, and want to help make sure that we can reach more people now and into the future.
Whatever amount you feel able to give each month, we promise it will make all the difference.

🍁🪵Autumn Bug Hunt 🪵🍁
The under 2's and toddlers have been on a bug hunt through their Autumn Tuff Tray. The children looked carefully to find the ‘shape’ bugs. When we found them we looked at the different shapes the bugs were (square, circle triangle) and categorised them. We also looked at the different things in our Autumn Tuff Tray such as the pumpkins, leaves, bark and pinecones and talked about how the objects felt and what colours we could see.
🍁Pre-school Autumn Tuff Tray 🍁
This week preschool have enjoyed talking about and exploring the different colours, sounds and smells they might experience during the Autumn season. They’ve also discussed the changes in weather and what happens to the leaves on the trees during autumn and what animals they might see.
Pre-school explored their autumn tuff tray with brown rice and red, orange and brown pasta - they used tongs, scoops and spoons to move the pasta/rice around the tuff tray and in/out of containers, also matching to the coloured autumn leaves. They have also been very busy collecting leaves, conkers and pine cones which thwy looked at during their circle time.
🍂 ⭐️ Autumn wands & Autumn Leaves ⭐️🍂
🍂🦔Hedgehogs 🦔 🍂
Pre-school have enjoyed making their very own Hedgehogs using clay, sticks, googly eyes and pom-poms.
The children worked really hard to manipulate the clay into the shape of their hedgehogs. They also used their counting skills to count out 2 eyes and 5 sticks for their spikes (some added a few more on afterwards)
Expanding our vocabulary this Autumn 🍂

✨All about me!✨
Today in preschool the children have been learning all about themselves through self portraits. This is a great way to foster each child’s sense of self, explore their individuality and build their confidence. These activities allow children to learn more about themselves and share their interests and abilities with their friends & the Pre-school Ladies!
🚶♀️ 🛍️ Out and About 🍃 🌳
Today Pre-school had a fantastic time walking to our local shop.
Before heading out We had a safety talk. Firstly we talked about the weather and the importance of suncream, the traffic and the need to listen to our grown ups so they can keep us safe and finally what we had planned during our walk. We walked all the way to Tesco, looking at a variety of things on the way. The children all chose an ice lolly and loved scanning their items before paying at the check out. We then went and sat on the grass verge to enjoy our purchases. We looked at the stream and the ‘waterfall’, we also looked at the numbers on the speed limit sign and discussed why we thought the traffic might have to go slow. We got back just in time for lunch, everyone had a fabulous time and we talked about where we could go on our next adventure.
The children in under 2’s enjoyed exploring their under the sea tuff tray. They had great fun playing with the Sea creatures and getting messy in the shaving foam and sand. We spoke about the different materials and how they felt, what colours we could see and identified all the different types of sea creatures that we had in the tuff tray such as fish and sharks.
🐻 Teddy Bears Picnic 🧺
The under 2’s enjoyed an exciting Teddy Bears Picnic yesterday. They made cups of tea and fed the bears different summer fruits from their basket. They also let their bears enjoy big pieces of cake 🍰
🏇🏽Olympics 2024 🚴🏼♂️
Pre-school have been learning all about the Olympics this week. They’ve looked at the Olympic rings, made torches and also taken part in some of the Olympic sports.
Starting school 📚
Starting school is a huge step for our preschoolers so we’ve made our cosy corner into an area where children are welcome to come over for some quiet time. This is a space for them to look at books all about school, talk with each other and adults about how they’re feeling and ask any questions they’d like about their school.
Toddlers have enjoyed using balloons to paint 🎈 They used a variety of different colours to create their ice cream shapes ready for their cones 🍦
Our Under 2’s have been busy this morning exploring their yellow yoghurt themed tuff tray. ☀️ The children enjoyed making marks using different tools and enjoyed a little taste along the way! Yummy!
Pre-schools camping adventures continue.. 🏕️
Pre-school have started their new topic this week of camping and outdoors 🏕️
They started the morning with building their own camping models using the Lego blocks and then did a spot of bird watching before lunch. The children used magnifying glasses and binoculars to look for the birds in our miniature forest and then used our checklists to identify their names and tick them off 🐦⬛🌳
This week we have had lots of summer themed activities going on throughout the nursery ☀️
☀️ Ice Painting
☀️ Fluffy Ice creams
☀️ Sensory summer water play
To name a few.
Let’s create colourful ice creams 🍦💚
With the summer holidays fast approaching .. ☀️
World Rainforest Day 🦜🌴
On Saturday it was World Rainforest Day. We thought it was a great topic to share with the children. We discussed the importance of our rainforests, what animals we might find in a rainforest and why they like to live there.
The children then explored their very own miniature rainforest and used their fine motor skills to manipulate the play-dough to create what the different mats asked of them.
🦷👩🏿🤝👨🏼 Independence 👩🏽🤝👨🏾🦷
Pre-school are focusing on the topic of independence and in particular this week about teeth and how important it is to brush our teeth twice daily. Today the children shared a book during their circle time and had a discussion about when to brush their teeth, what might happen if we don’t and who we go to see to check our teeth and gums are healthy.
Throughout the week the children will be receiving their very own Alan’s scary teeth story to take home along with a well done certificate 🦷🥇
Babies and under 2’s have been busy creating flags 🌈 and scoring goals ⚽️
