Friends of Clifton Backies
The Friends of Clifton Backies group represent local people with an interest in Clifton Backies Nature Reserve, organising regular events and work days.
Clifton Backies Nature Reserve is located in historic York, and has a very interesting story to tell. In May 2002 Clifton Backies was designated as a Local Nature Reserve (LNR) because of its diverse wildlife, its recreational open space and its potential for education. The diverse habitats of Clifton Backies support many different species of mammal, bird, insect and plant life. You can download a
i'M SURE YOU'LL AGREE THIS IS APPALLING. I'M SO SO SORRY FOR THE OWNERS AND FOR POOR MILLIE. HOW TERRIBLY TRAUMATIC. ALL IT TAKES ARE MUZZLES TO KEEP OTHER DOGS SAFE FROM YOUR DANGEROUS DOGS. 🥺YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE. If anyone knows anything please contact the number on the notice.
Hi, I wanted to talk about Charlie the horse. I know he might not be everyones cup of tea but he's doing no harm and some of us have grown very fond.. Twice now when I've visited him I've found him either too far from his water or without ANY water at all. During that heat!!! This is not down to the owner who was upset and came to sort him straight away. If anyone is tampering with Charlies water DON'T. He needs it and its plain cruel to deprive him of it. (If you see anyone up to no good can you discretely photograph them and we'll see what can be done about it) Thanks. I'm sure none of you guys and gals are responsible but just raising awareness. While Charlies with us he should be treated with kindness.
I believe Arlo is reunited with his loving family. YAY!!!!
This little cutie has been seen in the vicinity. Please don't call or approach him. He will only run. Call the owner on the notice and they will respond
Triffids. Triffid explosion 💥
Hi Friends of Clifton Backies
I've mentioned before how I struggle with this site but i would like to get this message out there to you all. Many of you will have seen the posters of jasper cat. Ginger 12yrs old neutered male, white around his mouth, chest and belly, front paws and rear legs. HALF A TAIL. Should be easily identifiable. He went missing 12/6 from the top of Burdyke avenue, nr the church, Clifton. His owner is on 07495523906 if you see him, or think you have. She will be there asap. There have been potential sightings on Clifton Backies nr Aldi and Burton stone lane/Rowntree Ave. but sadly not been found. As a cat owner i can only imagine how distressing this is so please keep your eyes open for him and check sheds, garages.
I'll try to get his picture on here too. Thanks for reading
I met Charlie the horse 🐴 with his owner. He’s moved him. His halter was being undone which was why he wandered. Please don’t. It could cause him and another an accident
Hi friends. There's been a lot of speculation about the pony on the backies. The community police were asked - and the council. As far as I know I don't think anyones quite sure whether he can be there or not. I for one have loved seeing him v regularly although I wish he had company. Anyway, today he doesn't appear to be there and the water barrel is gone. Does anyone know where he's been moved to? Thanks
A litter pick in the backies
Trying to put more on
Took some pictures today
These keys were found today, Sunday 5th feb at 1.30 on Green Lane by Aldi in Clifton. They have been left at the care home reception. Handley House tel 01904 221040. They are open 24hrs. Car keys, house key etc - nightmare. If you hear of anyone losing them please notify them. There's a Liverpool key ring.
Made contact with a lady from the Council who is now my 'go to' for backies issues. This is the time of year for work to be done before nests and suchlike so watch this space............
Met Phil yesterday. Litter picker extraordinaire. There may be news after Monday 11am of volunteer opportunities on the backies. Watch this space. HUGE thanks to Phil and others who help to keep the backies as cleaned up as they can.
Tragically this is the state of Bur D**e nr Sutton Way. ALWAYS littered with stella cans. 😖Can't/won't get down there to clear it - don't anyone else try - too dangerous. Cleared what was on the path and in the bushes. Thankfully there is nature. Saw a tawny owl - what a treat 🦉
I came across these on the ground today by the metal seats. Does anyone know of any incidents that have occurred recently where these may have been involved. No obvious signs of affray - no blood seen. They are with me.
A while ago I was considered a real bah humbug because I asked if folks would please not put knitted butterflies in trees and tied to benches. I appreciate the sentiment as much as the next person but this is why. Litter. As unsightly and dangerous to our wildlife as any other plastic bag.
Ollie helping with the litter picking 🥰
This great trail of broken concrete has been left near the gate at Minchin Close. It will not be collected by the black bin man understandably. What is wrong with people??? (The larger pieces have now been removed but there's still the debris which I'll do my best to gather). Sorry for the negative post but its so dispiriting when some do their best to keep the Backies nice for people to enjoy.
Should I be grateful they left their rubbish in a nice neat pile for me to collect? 😂
This is who to contact if you want to get involved in the work taking place
Work going on on the backies.
Beautiful blossom
Litter picking myself I found this pile of clothes - not neatly laid out like this. This is for demonstration purposes. There seems to be hospital scrubs amongst them?? I also encountered two men who were happily parked up with their push bikes around a little camp fire with their cans of lager. I remonstrated about the dangers and despite their protestations that it was 'under control' threatened to phone the police if they didn't put it out. They eventually reluctantly did when they saw i was serious. Please report anything like this that you see (BUT KEEP YOURSELF SAFE !!)
I would like to thank the team of volunteers who amongst other things seem to have picked up mountains of doo poo. That really is going the extra mile - above and beyond. Please please if you are a culprit - a. pick up the poo and b.take your bags home or to a nearby bin. Sorry for the foul picture but how much worse for the volunteers. They deserve a medal 🥳
Saw this fella the other day
Out and about litter picking again and took shots of the lovely sights
Hi friends, this is a very sad sight - again. 2 more areas set light to today and tended to by the fire brigade. Pretty much out when they got there. It may have been an accident - discarded butt perhaps - but they think not - esp. with the previous fires. What is suddenly going on and what can we do to stop it? Very very sad. Feel so helpless. I guess 101 is the obvious if suspicious behaviour is noticed otherwise 999 if too late. But STAY SAFE - from fire and culprits.
🦋
Out and about litter picking and met a bunch of lovely folk from The Conservation Volunteers https://www.tcv.org.uk/ who were clearing areas to allow more light to rare plants and generally working hard on the Backies for the good of all. Thank you TCV.
Can we help Aaron? Please let me know here if you can. Thanks. Hi just a quick message I have had a bike stolen on Sunday if I send you a picture can u keep an eye out for it please
Snow moon over Clifton Backies Feb 16th 2022
Went litter picking recently. Where does our super picker get their rubbish from? Another two bags today and I thought I’d found it all. Well done
Our lovely tree🤩
Went on a litter pick and enjoyed the beauty and stillness of a frosty morn - pictures in 'comments'. Struggle with this site :(
There has been talk of white powder nr Crichton avenue in the wood. I saw it today with some tree pruning lads and they said they would cover it with earth. No one seems to know what it is. Keep dogs away from it and all I can suggest is we call 101 and report it to the local police as suspicious if any more is found. Thanks. Happy new year all 🌳🦌🦔
Went litter picking today and discovered a litter picker fairy had been before me - thankyou. Still found a fair bit and i expect there'll be lots of cans and bottles after tonight. Happy New Year all
