Eile, täna ja homme võõrustab projekt koos partneritega Pärnumaal nii Eesti niidu huvilisi kui ka väliskülalisi Lätist, Leedust, Rootsist, Soomest, Belgiast, Tšehhist ja Inglismaalt.

Kokku on toonud teadlased-eksperdid-praktikud-ametnikud erinevatest riikidest ühine huvi puisniitude vastu. Eesti on kohtumiseks parim paik, kuna pea pooled - tervelt 42% - boreaalse piirkonna fennoskandia puisniitudest /6530*) asuvad siin.

Haggelettes Forest School have been investigating prehistoric plants and insects that have been around since the time of the dinosaurs! They had fun making their own fossils in Bodger's Den and printing with fern fronds.

A big welcome to the newest member of the team Becky Austin who is the Online Communication and Events Manager. Here’s Becky to introduce herself.

‘I’ve worked in conservation for 10 years, for The Royal Society for the Protection of Birds and Yorkshire Wildlife Trust. In my previous roles I carried out habitat management, undertook surveys, organised and ran events and social media and worked with volunteers.

I’m looking forward to raising the profile of Woodmeadow Trust and the fantastic work they do nationally. Running a programme of events at the flagship site, Three Hagges Woodmeadow is also really exciting.

In my spare time I can be found embroidering, playing board games and tabletop roleplay games, visiting nature reserves and wildlife watching or Morris dancing.

Hoping to meet lots of you soon at our upcoming events.’

All this sunshine and the Woodmeadow is finally dry enough to cut the paths for the first time this year. It was turning into a jungle out there 😅 ☀️☀️

Come and explore Three Hagges and see what new corners of the woodmeadow you can discover. Don't forget to let us know what you spot on our sightings board in Bodger's Den 🐝🦋🪻

Fabulous to see Haggelettes Forest School exploring life down at the pond today. They showed great curiosity, determination and confidence. Our top finds included a large tadpole, a beautiful larval casing and a dragonfly nymph! Well done everyone!

Did you know, Grass snakes (Natrix helvetica) are commonly found at the Woodmeadow- especially near the north pond. The trust’s Trainee Ecologist Freya is counting the number of paired scales from the snake’s cloaca to the tail tip (SubCaudal scale count) to determine s*x. This grass snake is a young female (℮ 4 years old), her unique markings on the under belly towards the head (ventral pattern) are recorded to compare against the Three Hagges Woodmeadow grass snake records. Thank you Nick Project: WILD CIC for visiting and sharing all your expertise.

Grass snakes prey on small mammals, amphibians, fish and birds. They can be seen basking on top of logs, grass piles, bare ground and our tin sheet mats. To deter predators such as birds of prey, herons and mammalian carnivores the grass snake may hiss, release a foul-smelling secretion or playing dead.

Three Hagges Woodmeadow has made a remarkable transformation over the last 10 years. To document the next 10 years, we have set up several fixed point photography spots throughout the meadow. We hope this will show the changing woodmeadow through the seasons and years with a photo every month

Haggelettes Forest School have been enjoying the magic of the woodland's bluebells, whilst discovering the birds that visit the Woodmeadow and what they like to eat. They also made their own natural birdfeeders using orange skins - fantastic work!
