Last year's top two in the York Minster Engineering League Premier Division maintained their impressive starts to the season as both Wigginton Grasshoppers and Dunnington won to keep their 100% records intact.
Grasshoppers had a battle and a half with Dringhouses, which was finally decided late in the game when Max Bauer rose to head home his second of the game after being assisted by an Ellis Cattaneo cross. That goal gave the reigning champions a 3-2 success after a crazy twenty-minute spell in the first half had seen a catalogue of errors with four bizarre goals during that period. Aidan Mulhearn and George Brown made the score sheet for ‘Houses with Bauer and James Edmond netting for Wiggy in a game that could easily have gone either way.
Harry Blackwell (2), Tom Anderson, Ewan Hallows and Angus Richardson steered Dunnington to a 5-2 success over Poppleton United. The Common Road side have now won their first four. Ibrahim Abdi and Reece Holmes bagged the Poppy goals.
Luke Pearse achieved a remarkable feat for Malt Shovel, netting his fourth hat-trick in as many games as Shovel ground out a 4-3 win at Huntington Rovers. Callum Morris had hit the away side's opener, with Kieran Harris and Dan Marshall (2) finding the target for Rovers. Henry Wharton, Niall Smallwood and James Rothel fired Rawcliffe to a 3-2 victory over Kirkbymoorside. Andy Walker scored the only goal of the game to give Tockwith their first success since gaining promotion to the premier division.
Howden made it five wins out of five in Division One with a 3-2 success at Pocklington Town, for whom Tom Knowles and Chris Sebastian hit the target. Regular marksman Robbie Tomlinson was once again on the scoresheet for the Minstermen. Oliver Brennan's goal looked to have kept Pollington's perfect start going, but his side lost focus and conceded in the last minute as Rowan Todd earned Garforth Lord Gascoigne a point. Haxby Town moved up to third following the collapse of Stamford Bridge in the second half of their match. Only an Adam Chaplin goal separated the sides at the break, but the striker went on to complete his hat-trick, and further goals from Luke Addison (2) and Finlay Burbidge saw Town run out 6-0 winners. Substitutes Lewis Liddell and Josh Gath fired Easingwold Town to a 2-0 triumph over Strensall Tigers. Patryk Zimer and Dan Zimer gave Wheldrake a 2-1 half-time lead at Bishopthorpe White Rose, but the hosts fought back to take the points via a 4-2 victory. Mathew Atkinson, Eren Barker, Andy Seagar and Jamie Mackie shared the Bish haul.
Church Fenton moved level on points with Wilberfoss at the top of Division Two after fighting back from one-nil down to record a 4-3 success over their rivals. Dan Gibney, Luke McAllister and Steve Mounser were on the mark for the hosts, but they were outpointed by strikes from Ben Clowes, Jed Hudson (2) and Chris Simpson. Callum Acko fired The Beagle into a half-time lead, but a Fin Tomlinson goal thirteen minutes from time earned Fulford a point from the clash. Sporting Knavesmire put their first points on the board after defeating Heslington by five goals to two. A jack Stokell hat-trick, plus an own goal and a Jamie Rutherford strike secured the points. Heso's responses came via Shaun Rayner and Harry Birkett.
Riccall United's return to the league remains unblemished. This week the Division Three leaders put York Ri to the sword, winning by ten goals to two. Dan Pratt (4), Danny Bentley (3), Jamie Hudson (2) and Louis Blackwell shared the spoils. An own goal plus a strike from Niall Scott gave RI something to brighten their spirits. Marton Abbey continued their perfect start win a 1-0 success over York Shamrocks, thanks to an early goal from Dan Cooper. Knaresborough Celtic made it three wins from four after putting six past Clifford without reply. Jordan Firth hit a treble, and was supported by goals from Brad Everitt, William Jefferson and Adam Whiteley. LNER Builders' made it two wins on the bounce as efforts from Thomas Bateson and Tom Harrison saw them overcome Duncombe Park, for whom Nick Allenby netted. Goals from Joshawn Grazette and Jabari Boyce could not save Ebor Wanderers from defeat as they crashed 4-2 at Airmyn FC.

Reports - 29th April
The title race in the York Minster Engineering League premier division is drawing to a close, but it definitely looks to be going right to the wire.
Dunnington have control of the title's destiny and if they win their final three games, then they will be champions. On Saturday, they showed the resilience needed for the run in, coming back from a goal down at Malt Shovel to record a vital 2-1 success. After trailing to a very early strike from Niall Coulthard, the game turned on its head following a red card which reduced the hosts to ten men. Dunnington struck back from the resulting free-kick and followed up with a second-half winner. Dan Andrew and Alex Clark were on the mark for Dunnington.
Wigginton Grasshoppers also fell behind in their match, Flynn McNaughton giving Kirkbymoorside the lead after a quarter of an hour. That lead did not last long though with Jake Duckworth firing back a minute later and within two minutes more, Wigginton were ahead courtesy of Liam Robertson. Jamie Willstrop made it 3-1 on the half hour mark, before Robertson grabbed his second and Wiggy's fourth just before the break. McNaughton hit his second goal of the game midway through the second period, as Wigginton finished up 4-2 winners.
Tadcaster Magnets returned to winning ways with a 4-1 success at Poppleton United, who barring a miracle now look destined to finish in the bottom two. Charlie Marshall found the target for Poppy but goals from Dom Jackson, Tom Charlesworth and Harry Smith (2) secured the points for Magnets.
Dringhouses, who have Wigginton to play once, and Dunnington to play twice in the league, gained a comfortable 2-0 success at Osbaldwick. Sam Ripley-Kitson and Fielder Blaise netted. Rawcliffe gained a 3-2 success over Huntington Rovers thanks to efforts from Eddy Clapham, Harvey Stevenson and Dan Hobson. Leo Potts and Dan Marshall replied for Rovers.
A hat-trick from Jamie Perkins saw Tockwith guarantee themselves Premier Division football next season. Despite a goal from Finn Coughlan, Strensall Tigers went down by three goals to one. The result also sees Cawood guaranteed promotion to the top flight, though the title race between Cawood and Tockwith has still to reach its conclusion.
Haxby Town concluded their season with a 3-3 draw at home to Rufforth United. Tyler Bateson netted twice for the hosts, with Mick Watson also firing in a spectacular effort.
In Division Two, second placed Howden defeated league leaders Wheldrake by three goals to one. Jake Bayram (2) and Harry Noon put the ball into the net for the visitors, with Chris Verzi hitting Wheldrake's goal in the first half. Garforth LG, who are now title favourites, romped to a 6-1 success at Stamford Bridge. Charles Simpson, Matthew Fisher, Jed Hudson (2), Connor Rose and Callum Gomersal shared Lord Gascoignes' haul, with Paul Upton responding for Bridge.
The only game played in Division Three saw Church Fenton defeat Hamilton Panthers by seven goals to two. Fenton now sit one point behind Panthers in third place, with both teams having to travel to South Milford for their final game.
In Division Four, Knottingly Albion defeated York Shamrocks by four goals to one. Jack Overton was on the score sheet for the hosts but strikes from Stuart Garbutt, Farrell Morris and Evan Tyson (2) saw the points go the way of Knottingly.
With the Reserve A title long since decided, all eyes are on the other end of the table. A crazy season has resulted in just ten points separating second place from tenth place - with only eleven clubs in the division! Four clubs are now locked on twenty-four points: Dringhouses, Osbaldwick, Malt Shovel and Pocklington Town. Osbaldwick have played all of their games with Malt Shovel facing Pocklington and Dringhouses travelling to Rawcliffe this coming Saturday.
Wigginton Grasshoppers removed themselves from the equation with a 5-1 win over Malt Shovel, who had beaten them 5-0 the previous week. Darren Moore put Shovel into a seventh-minute lead but a brace from James Sutton, a goal from Dayton Scott and two fantastic strikes from Ben Barker-Spencer saw Wigginton take the points and stave off relegation. Meanwhile, champions Dunnington kept up their impressive run with a 2-1 defeat of Poppleton United. Grant Bulmer and Samson Wildwood netted for Dunnington.
Josh Hussein (2) and Dave Hartas struck for Rawcliffe in their 3-3 share-all with Thorpe United, for whom Matthew Pearse and Jay Smyth (2) hit the target. Huntington Rovers rounded off their league campaign with a 3-2 triumph at home to Old Malton St Mary's. Substitute Lee Bunce, playing in his final open age game, came off the bench to hit a hat-trick for Rovers who were trailing at the interval.
Vlad Dianescu and Darren Brandon gave Stamford Bridge a 2-0 half time lead in their Reserve B match at Wheldrake and it was enough to see them take the points after only conceding one goal in the second period. Stamford Bridge finished third in the table behind Tadcaster Magnets and Tockwith.
Callan Blackstock and Kieran Ledger struck for Haxby Town in their Reserve Cup game with Rufforth United, but found themselves dumped out of the cup on penalties following a 2-2 draw.

Reserve and Cup reports - 22nd April
Dunnington wrapped up another Reserve A title with a comfortable 4-0 success over Pocklington Town. A hat-trick from Fin Smith and a goal from Joe Waines saw the Common Road side seal the Reserve A title for the first time since 2015-16. Rawcliffe, who led the division for so long this season, drew 1-1 at Poppleton United. Billy Annett struck for Rawcliffe, with Joe Fletcher on target for Poppy.
Reserve B champions Tadcaster Magnets rounded off their league campaign with a 7-2 success over York RI. Mark Tierney, Ben Jennison, Lucas Frankish, Dan Robinson, Tom Broadbent, Ethan Whittaker and George Condon were on the mark for the champions, with Liam Kettlewell and Niall Scott bagging the RI consolations. Jack Foote and Joe Draper netted for Copmanthorpe in a 6-2 shock defeat at second-bottom Wheldrake. Will Ballesteros and Jesse Cooke fired Chirch Fenton to a 2-1 home win over Fulford.
Easingwold all but secured second place in Reserve C with a 2-1 success over recently-crowned champions, Rufforth United.
In Round Two of the League Junior Cup, The Beagle saw off Wheldrake by four goals to two. Callum Acko and Connor Larner gave the hosts a two-goal advantage before a comeback from Wheldrake via Chris Verzi and Dan Smith saw the sides go in level at the break. A second Larner effort along with a goal from Callum Hannigan restored The Beagle's two-goal cushion but this time Wheldrake had no answers as the home side progressed to round three courtesy of a 4-2 success.
Goals from Sam and Josh Phoenix saw Malt Shovel continue in the Reserve Cup after defeating Tockwith by two goals to one.

Reserve Reports - 8th April
The top two in Reserve A both won their games this weekend, meaning that Dunnington hold onto their four-point advantage at the summit.
The Common Road side led Poppleton United 1-0 at the interval in their game, and a frantic second-half saw that initial goal prove to be decisive as the visitors secured a 3-2 victory. Harry Griffiths, Isaac Overton and Jack Spofforth were the Dunnington marksmen. A Robbie Macauley hat-trick was the difference between Rawcliffe and Huntington Rovers, with the former winning by four goals to one. Sam Smith completed the Rawcliffe tally, with Luke Craven grabbing the Rawcliffe consolation.
First half goals from Harry Newlove and Josh Phoenix gave Malt Shovel a vital three-points in their attempt to escape the relegation zone. Reece Botterill did reply for Dringhouses but his side suffered a 2-1 home defeat. Gary Newton fired Wigginton Grasshoppers into the lead against Osbaldwick but his effort was cancelled out late in the game by Jack Sullivan. The 1-1 draw means that any one of six or seven teams could still occupy the second relegation spot come the end of the season.
In Reserve B, it took a penalty in the fourth minute of stoppage time to earn Wheldrake a point from their game with Church Fenton. Max Himsworth converted the spot-kick under intense pressure, adding to Wheldrake's earlier effort from James Smith. The result virtually consigns Wheldrake to a bottom two finish.
The only game in Reserve C saw Selby Olympia defeat Wilberfoss by six goals to one. Mark Jones bagged the 'Foss effort.
Update:
Huntington Rovers and Osbaldwick played out an entertaining 3-3 draw in Reserve A on Tuesday night. A 25-yard Leo Potts' strike that careered in via the underside of the bar proved to be the highlight of the game for Rovers, with veteran Steve Rambridge also bagging a brace for the home side. George Rayner, Tom Burdett and Oliver Green shared the goals for Osso.
