Shipton Art Group & York Art Society Exhibition: open now until Sunday, 10-4pm 🎨🖼️

We received the sad news this week that long-standing Poppleton Artist, Hilary Holroyd has died. She was living in a care home in Fleet, Hampshire, to be near her sons. Hilary was one of the original members of the group and we are so grateful for the many years in which she shaped and supported the exhibition. Rest in peace Hilary # # # 🕊️🎨

The committee held their final meeting of the year this week, and we agreed that the 2023 exhibition had been a superb event.

June announced that she is standing down from her current role as Chairperson. After a phenomenal 11 years, she now feels that it is time to place this responsibility into new hands. June would like to thank everyone who has ever been involved with the workshops and exhibition - she says, “It's been a blast!” Xx

Amazing creations today by the families who came to the art activity in the garden! We will be there Sunday and Monday too for more messy fun! 🤩

We were delighted to be joined at tonight’s preview by The Lord Mayor of York, Chris Cullwick; The Lady Mayoress, Joy Cullwick; The Sheriff of York, Sue Hunter and The Sheriff’s Consort, Nigel Patrick Goodwin. The speeches by the Lord Mayor and The Sheriff were full of heartfelt encouragement. It was the perfect start to what promises to be an amazing exhibition weekend!

🎉We are excited to announce that our public preview evening is returning this year! The event will take place at 7pm in the Tithe Barn on Friday 25th August. Tickets are £8, which will include a glass of wine🍷and delicious canapés provided by The White Horse Public House Upper Poppleton. You can purchase them at Cardland and The Lemon Tree on Allerton Drive. Admission to the exhibition will be free on Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th August from 10am-5pm and on Monday 28th August from 10am-4pm. We hope to see you there!

North yorkshire Open studios begins tomorrow for 2 weekends. I am at Starbeck near Harrogate. Opposite the railway station. Easy travel if trains are running! Look for the yellow signs leading to The Workhouse Framers. Plenty of parking. There are 3 if us: me, a stained glass lady and a ceramicist. It's looking good.

That’s a wrap! It was a fantastic turn out this year and beautiful weather. After taking down the exhibition, the committee presented Poppleton Artists chairman (of 10 years!) June Hardy with some flowers and a special artwork to thank her for everything she does to organise this event.

It’s the final day of the exhibition tomorrow! We are open 10am-4pm. We are running a children’s pebble painting activity in the garden… here are some of the masterpieces created so far! 👨‍🎨

We were delighted that the Lord Mayor of York, Councillor David Carr & the Lady Mayoress of York, Lynda Carr, were with us
to formally open the exhibition this evening. Their enthusiasm and kind words were hugely appreciated. 💫 We are also extremely grateful to the talented Jane Vaughan for creating this incredible (and delicious!) cupcake display to celebrate our 21st anniversary. 🧁🥂🍾 The exhibition is open to the public 10am Saturday 27th August.
