HOW MEN WERE TO JUDGE; BUT FOR THE SON….
“If there be a controversy between men, and they come unto judgment, that the judges may judge them; then they shall justify the righteous, and condemn the wicked” Deuteronomy 25:1. “For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved” John 3:17.

Our study for today is going to be a comparative one and hence we shall consider two verses each from both sections of the Old and New Testaments. We see from the ministry of Jesus how He relied on the Old Testament section to validate His claim as the Son of God. Peter also did the same when he made reference to the prophecy of Joel to validate and authenticate the outpouring of the Holy Ghost on the day of Pentecost. In Paul’s teaching of the priesthood also, he relied heavily on the writings of Moses from the Old Testament section of the Bible. Both Testaments indeed help our understanding of God’s counsel.

Today’s study focuses on helping us understand and appreciate the work of our Lord Jesus Christ better. God’s dealings with Israel before the coming of Christ is very different from His dealings with man after the Christ had come; and this is something we need to know and understand. In the first verse, we see what was to happen in judging matters of controversy.
It says “If there be a controversy between men, and they come unto judgment, that the judges may judge them; then they shall justify the righteous, and condemn the wicked.” In man’s judgment, there was no room for mercy; a man was doomed if he was found guilty and that was all he could hope for.

But the second verse tells us something different. It is a statement made by the Lord Jesus Himself. He said “For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.” This makes it clear that His mission was not to condemn men but that the world might be saved through Him. And He could do this because matters of judgement had been committed to Him. (John 5:22)

Beloved, the Lord is not an enemy but a friend. His desire is that none would perish. Let us receive this truth for ourselves and communicate this pure love of the Lord Jesus to mankind. We should always remember that a man who has gone astray can only be gotten back with love. The young man who left his father’s house and wasted all his substance on riotous living only thought of coming back when he concluded that his father would never turn him back. Love always works and this is what the Lord Jesus stands to demonstrate. Be admonished, shalom!

Assignment
Dear Heavenly Father, today also, as always, I have been blessed. I know that the purpose of the Lord is not to condemn but to save all. I ask that you give me grace to communicate this truth as I ought to always in Jesus name!

THIS IS BY GOD’S ORDINATION; CHOOSE TO RESPECT AND FOLLOW IT (2)
“Even so hath the Lord ordained that they which preach the gospel should live of the gospel.” 1 Corinthians 9:14.

We continue with our study on gaining spiritual understanding into the ordination of the Lord concerning how the ministers are to be catered for. We have understood so far that from the very beginning, God separated the priests from the common way of earning a living. He instructed Moses not to give them any portion of the inheritance of Canaan because He (God) would be their portion. As a result, what the people of Israel were to bring to Him would be the priests’ portion which they were to use for themselves and also for the running of the works in the tabernacle and temple. This was further strengthened by the Lord Jesus when he sent His disciples and instructed them not to take anything with them because their needs would be supplied by those they minister to.

We also understood that some people do not support this kingdom provision and frown upon it greatly because some ministers of the gospel have abused this severally. But there is a proverbial saying that you do not throw away the baby with the bath water. We all know that after bathing a child, the water used is no more needed and is therefore usually thrown away. But we don’t condemn the child also to the same fate simply because the water has been dirtied. The point being made is that the fact that a part of something is destroyed does not mean that the whole must be done away with. Are we to abolish the entire judicial system and the whole police force because of the rampant accusations of corruption with proofs in some cases? Certainly not! The fact that some ministers have abused this provision as some purport does not in any way render God’s wisdom null and void.

An important question to ask at this point is what one stands to gain for ministering to a man of God. For the Lord to have ordained that the people being ministered to must also minister to the ministers, there must be a blessing embedded in them. From the old testament, mention could be made of Abraham who ministered to the priest of God Melchizedek. This priest also blessed Abraham and we know of what a great man Abraham became, both in wealth and accomplishments. We could also speak of the widow at Zarephath who ministered to Elijah of the little meal she had kept for herself and son but after that sacrificial giving, she never run out but was sustained throughout the famine period. We could also talk of the great woman at Shunnem who ministered to the prophet Elisha severally and afterwards built him a house. As a result of this, she also received the prophecy of a son which she gave birth to a year afterwards. When Peter gave his boat to Jesus to minister the word to a crowd, he afterwards received a bumper harvest.

Beloved, it is that which God has ordained that is guaranteed to work. Ministering to a man of God you genuinely believe in, will greatly transform your life in ways unimaginable. Choose to operate by the wisdom of God in this regard for He has indeed ordained that they who live by the gospel should live of the gospel. Stay blessed.

Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father, I thank you for this gracious truth. I have settled in my heart that your wisdom is supreme and therefore I choose to be ruled by it. I choose not to struggle to minister to my man of God and I receive grace to make this a vital part of my kingdom walk in Jesus’ name.
