Happy international youth day
International Youth Day is a special occasion dedicated to celebrating the vital role of young people in society and recognising their contributions to development. It's a day to acknowledge their potential and achievements while also addressing the challenges they face. The day is marked by awareness campaigns, community concerts, and various events that bring attention to the socio-economic and socio-political issues affecting youth around the world. It's not just about highlighting problems but also about celebrating young people as essential partners in building a brighter future.
The Gambian youths form the chuck part of the population and the Government needs to form great policies that would not only helps to utilise the human capital efficiently but also make the youths to be central figures in our development aspirations.
We the members of DefalGambia are aware of the recent remunerations increment for judiciary bill passed to the national assembly members . Its disheartening that while some civil servants are receiving less than 5000 per month, other officials are getting more than 200000 per month. Can one see the inequality and the injustice?
We strongly condemn this bill and urged the government to consider the plight and the needs of the masses. Justice most be served at all times.
Of recently, the evil drug called KUSH is the biggest enemy to the youths....Good number of people have perished as a result of this so called drug....immediate action most be taken to avoid further damage....
DefalGambia is wishing Eid mubarak to the entire world...May peace prevail all over the world
The importance of trees planning cannot be overemphasised. Apart from the carbon dioxide they produce for humans, trees also provide shade for both humans and animals. In addition , trees also cover the soil to prevent it from exposure to heat thereby reducing soil erosion.......let us plann more trees to safe our environment..
On Saturday, the 2nd March 2024, DefalGambia organization in collaboration with Brikama Area Council and the youths of Brufut successfully conducted a massive cleansing exercise at BRUSUBI turntable and the surrounding area.
I was able to gather upto 150 youths for this important event. What a massive turnout! It was overwhelming and incredible. As the initiator and the president of DefalGambia, I would like to seize this opportunity to express my heartfelt gratitude to Brikama Area Council chairman and the special thanks to the wonderful Brufut ward cancilor, honorable Abdoulie Jammeh. It won't have been possible without this amazing man. He was in the forefront of every step and I'm so grateful with his commitment to serve the people. I would also like to thank my ever reliable team who make the work looks so easy. They did wonders. My secretary, Mr Sheriff sanyang is the most dedicated person I ever worked with, he is just an absolute hero who knows the importance of serving humanity. In addition, I want to say big thank you to the youths of Brufut, these youths are the most hard working people I have ever seen. They deserve all the credits. They are incredible people and I am writing to say big thank you. Finally, I want to say big thank you to the owner of Ovaltine shop at BRUSUBI turntable who donated D1000 for this event.
We successfully clearned from Brufut junction to Brusubi turntable. It was a long marathon as we spent we spent 9 complete hours to finish all the areas we wanted to clean. Hope to continue serving humanity till the End of time.
DefalGambia organization would like to inform the General public that the cleansing exercise which was scheduled to take place on the 3rd of February, has been rescheduled on the 10th of February 2024. This is due logistics and other unseen circumstances that are beyond our control.
We apologise for any inconvenience caused.
Slowly but surely. Every challenge is a source of inspiration to even do better.
This letter was written in May last year to the inspector General of police to permit us to implement this significant project but till now, they never responded. Its a daunting task to put like minded people under one umbrella to achieve a common goal but we will never relent. I will continue to serve my people till the end of time. #
Earlier today, DefalGambia organization and the Councillor of Brusubi revisited the same area to see if any progress has been made. Fortunately we found that one fatou jallow, a concern neighbour, has already taken the initiative to clear the Illegal dumping site. We commended the lady for her positive response and urged her to continue her generosity.
Soon after that, I engaged the Councillor to find out permanent solutions and equally possible alternatives for the residents to be able to manage their waste materials effectively.
Next move is to engage the residents of brusubi so that they will stop dumping to the said area and equally take the initiative to become their own watchdogs.
Illegal dumping of waste is worrying the neighbours of brusubi.
Earlier today, DefalGambia organization visited a dumping site in Brusubi to see what was going on and what the surrounding residents have to say. Looking at the photos, one would clearly see the unpleasant way of how this waste materials are scattered all over. As a concern citizen and an environmentalists, I decided to take a step towards removing this dumping site or find an alternative solution. First of all I decided to have some words with neighbours to know the history of this dumping ground and their opinions towards the Illegal dumping. One isatou jallow, told DefalGambia, that she's very worried about her health condition due to the smoke she inheal on daily basis and the unpleasant air she breath continuesly. I can't even sit outside or even open my windows because of this dumping site, she said. I have expressed my concern and even went further to asked Qtv to air it so that government or relevant authorities can take a step but nothing, she continues. Could you imagine spending millions of dalasis to build your comfortable home only people to dump their waste materials to disrupt your peace? Well ,This is my situation for years. Neighbours dump here at late night when I'm sleeping, she lamented.
From the dumping site, I proceeded to Brikama Area Council to express my concern about this issue and equally hear from their side. They said that this place has been there for long and they're aware of it. We know the place you talking about and it is not what we wanted but the surrounding neighbours have to stop littering there. We'll, this exactly why I'm here, I quickly responded. To cut conversation short, they said that they can't do anything and that I should to Brikama Area Council in Brikama to see the chairman.
At the moment this is the situation and I hope that we succeed in removing this toxic materials from the site. Environmental pollution cause health hazard to the people and animals.
From January to October 2023, a total of 18 boats carrying 2345 migrants departed from The Gambia and arrived at the shores of Spain, yaya sonko, a migration activist based in Germany told the fatu network.
As of October 15th, the canary Island have seen unprecedented influx of migrants, with the latest official data from the Spanish ministry of interior revealing that a staggering 30,400 have arrived on the islands in 2023.
The majority of these migrants have come from the neighbouring countries of The Gambia and Senegal.
These are alarming stats that should prompt the The Gambia government to pay attention to these unwanted phenomenon. Human capital is the most important pillar for development in any given country. The youths are most be willing to contribute to national development. In order to keep them here and off course motivate them to work, the government most create ample job
opportunities and equally empower the youths.
DefalGambia organization is very much concerned and therefore urged the government to look for possible solutions.
DefalGambia organization learned with sad and unfortunate incident of the shooting of police officers by unknown gunman which resulted to the dead of 2 officers and left the third party in critical condition .This is unacceptable and the culprit should be brought to justice. Our thoughts are with the griefs family.
We call on the government to fast track the security sector service reform which includes providing more training to the men and women in unform to better protect themselves and of course the citizens. Moreover, let the government tighten the security system in more smart move by installing cctv cameras in strategic locations to easily apprehend culprits/ criminals....
DefalGambia organization is very much concerned with the way beach goers litters waste materials along the sea. These waste materials are likely to be washed away and thereby cause pollution to the seaside. The environment protection agencies should consider ways and measures to mitigate this action or even impose penalties on the perpetrators .
It's official: that the global average temperature for July 2023 is confirmed to be the highest on record for any month. World methodological organisation attributed the long-term trend to continue increase in the concentration of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. Climate change is a global problem that requires global action.
As the world 🌎 celebrated "world environment day" its an opportunity to reflect on the success towards fighting climate change impacts and equally draw policies that would protect our flora and funa for our own benefits as well as for the future generations. Global warming is a global challenge that requires global efforts to address. Sea levels are rising every second, heat temperatures are at the extreme speed and as a result, natural disasters are claiming millions of lives. While some people are experiencing extreme cold weather, others are experiencing extreme heats that is even capable of melting up our souls.
When shall we see and live through the changes we are yearning for? Well, I believe this question is so easy and yet so difficult to answer. Could you imagine going through struggles everyday? Sadly, this is situation at the Gambia immigration department ( passport processing center) we are ask to wait indefinitely because of unending meetings. I wish they could do better to solve this challenge by decentralization. This is the only passport center in the entire country.
DefalGambia organization is very much concerned with recent noise about the increment of Nawec tariffs. NAWEC problems are as old as dating back in 1990s and there's no sign things will change for better anytime soon based on the fact that they don't want to or do not know where the problem lies. The entire world is affected by numerous catastrophic disasters in the form of unending wars and diseases and as a result economic crisis is the song in everyone's mouth. At the level of the Gambia, Electricity has never been affordable to the masses and increasing the cost means denying the right holders their rights. Putting all factors into consideration, I believe it is hard to justify this uncalled for move. We therefore, ask Nawec to reconsider this decision for the better and fair treatment of our citizens who deserve better care and accessibility to power and energy in the most affordable way.
Eid Mubarak to the entire Uma.
What a shame! Today I went to the ministry of foreign affairs to authentic my documents only to be told that the person responsible for that is sick and I have to wait till the following day. I wonder if a serious government will leave an important role to a single person.
As we celebrate our 58th independence today the 18th February, 2023, let us take this opportunity to reflect on how far we have gone and what needs to be done to attain the true meaning of independence. We have achieved a lot yet very little considering the fact that we are highly dependent nation and still almost import everything from outside.
I took this photo around serrekunda market, one of the busiest place in the Gambia. Clearly the guy is transporting bread to different areas and it's very visible that the bread is not covered with anything thereby exposing it to health hazards. The food and safety authorities should have a look at this.
DelfalGambia is concerned with the movement of industrial vacuum trucks or tankers during the day with human waste.
Some of the tankers leak while conveying human waste for disposal. This situation has implications on the health and wellbeing of people. The emission of offensive smell also disturbs the comfort of people.
DelfalGambia calls on the government and other relevant authorities to ensure that the transportation of human waste is done only at night/odd hours.
The alarming rate of road accidents in the country is becoming worrisome.
The Gambia continues to be rated as one of countries with the highest road accidents.
One key reason for such road accidents is the many abandoned stationary vehicles and other objects along the highways, congesting the already narrow roads.
Government, through the traffic division of the Gambia Police Force and other stakeholders, should start thinking about how to tow/remove all abandoned vehicles and other objects along the highways 🛣
Traffic Congestion and Scrambling for Commercial Vehicles: Why Government should Invest in Public Transport
Our country (The Gambia) is among the least developed countries of the world and no doubt one of the smallest as well.
Taking into consideration the country's tiny land size and sizable population of less than three million, traffic congestion and the pain to get commercial vehicles shouldn't be major challenges.
Unfortunately, traffic jam and scrambling to onboard commercial vehicles continue to be among protracted challenges faced by the the populace, particularly in urban settings.
The lack of good road network and ineffective transport system compound the issue.
The government should try to adopt a good transportation system where private vehicle owners would instead decide to go for public transport. The central government should start it and hopefully others would follow suit.
Government should also expand busy two-lane roads in urban areas into four four lanes to fix the perennial challenge of traffic congestion. .....
From DefalGambia Organization, an non-governmental organization working on addressing the plights of the average Gambian and also contribute to national development.
For the past few years, we've been experiencing traffic congestions constantly in almost all over the greater Banjul area and this seems not to be solved anytime soon, this is due to many factors such as lack of effective and efficient transport system, bad roads and the use of ald cars l. As a result, the number of accidents have risen recently and the government seems to be able do enough to find permanent solutions to this. Just to suggest one for the government, we urge them (the government) to introduce effective transport system by providing adequate bus services to busy areas and encourage people especially government workers to use the public transport instead.
