demetriou engineering ltd
A firm, intimately involved with every aspect of civil and structural engineering for more that thirty years. We support you. Radical approaches are encouraged.
We believe that the best engineers are versatile engineers. Overspecialization fractures the thinking process and compromises the capability to solve difficult problems and the ability to come up with solutions that combine multidisciplinary approaches. As a result we encourage our associates to get involved with all our projects, with no official hierarchy. A traditional pyramid organogram stifle

We still have a chance to attend this contemporary exhibition . And of course we are very happy that our engineers have worked on this magnificent building.

today and a new episode was just released. Nothing fancy, but it is important to correct a mistake we mede regarding the y axis clamp.

Right now we are working on Rosalind! How's your working day going?
Here we can see a slab displacement depicted in SCIA Engineer. This is actually a 6m overhang!
Do you recognize this project?
You can always cut a concrete column and remove it but you have to replace it. Here we used a steel one as a replacement.
This is the result when you have to get rid of the interior of a building, without damaging the exterior facades...
We really love our thread so we keep working on it. Here is a set of aerial photos, between 1962 and 1965.
Some important changes are highlighted, like the new pavement on the avenue, as well as some blocks with impressive differences.
Some cracks are less obvious than others and a civil engineer needs to be extra careful in order to spot them all. Structural reinforcement is the next step.
Structural reinforcement is essential for buildings, especially when the reinforcement bars are revealed. This concrete column needs reinforcement as soon as possible.
Earthquakes can be damaging to a building and we need to check on them. It is always interesting to observe how materials behave.
Structural reinforcement is a top priority for buildings, especially after the recent earthquakes. These concrete columns are one step before our civil engineers save them.

Aaand we are back! Ok we were back on Monday, but we wanted to begin this new year with the best way possible. And this means ! In this episode we operate on a motor before we mount it on Rosalind. For the whole video, follow the link in the comments below.
We wish you a happy August! We will see you in September!
Structural reinforcement seems to be our favorite topic right now. So here is a photo of concrete columns and our civil engineers to the rescue! It looks like a glade of concrete trunks.
And some more cracks.
And here are some cracks on the walls of the temple@ Vounária, Messinia, Greece before our structural reinforcement. This in an old project and these pictures are actually analogue. We shot the printed ones but the quality is vintage I guess.
Take a look at these four aerial photographs. They were taken in 1953, 1959, 1979 and 1995. You can spot the new s by the white color of their roofs. As you can see the whole thing happened between 1959 and 1979 while after that the changes are minimal.
During the 60's, 70's and 80's (and probably all major cities in Greece) were being mass-built this percentage was quite a lot higher than during the past 20 years when there is no more space for buildup.
This assumption ignores Public Works. Both eras had major Public Works projects going on and I assume (without having concrete data to do that) that they cancel each other out.
And here is the temple , Messinia, Greece after the project was completed. It would be fun to visit it with our team after all those years and see how our structural reinforcement is holding up.
In this picture you can see the steel reinforcement we installed at one of the arches of the temple , Messinia, Greece
Among our old projects is a temple , Messinia, Greece. Engineers often work on structural reinforcement of historical buildings. In this case the temple had been damaged during an earthquake.
Right now we are working on a booklet with historical buildings we have structurally reinforced in the past. I use Scribus to complete the task. Pretty easy software to do a page layout.
