Giorgos “Tsok” Tsokopoulos, a beloved figure in Greece’s film industry, has passed away aged 59.
Born in Athens in 1964, Giorgos left for London aged 18 to study shipping. But his passion for filmmaking soon took him in a more creative direction. On his return to Athens, he worked as a production manager, executive producer, and even occasionally as an actor.
In 2006, Giorgos founded Avion Films with his wife, Annabelle Aronis. Avion quickly established itself as a major player in the Greek and global film industry. The company was influential in establishing Greece as a destination for international film shoots, and evolved into an incubator for emerging talent, supporting Greek directors, screenwriters, and auteurs in their transition to the big screen. As executive producer, Giorgos’ credits include dozens of commercials for some of the world’s biggest brands, directors, and creative agencies, as well as award-winning features, short films, documentaries, and TV series.
Always pushing boundaries, he could transform a mediocre script or an uninspiring product into something truly original and outstanding. Beyond his steady hand, collaborative spirit, and commitment to excellence, Giorgos was a joy to be around on and off set. He had a rare talent for bringing out the best in cast, crew, and even the most difficult clients. In an industry that can be competitive and demanding, Giorgos made films as he lived life: with integrity, generosity, grace, and good humour.
His untimely passing is a terrible loss for the Greek film community and for his family: his son Ermis, his wife Annabelle, and his siblings, Vassilis and Loukia. An inspiration to all who had the good fortune to know him, Giorgos will live on through his films, and the warmth, kindness, and wisdom he shared so freely with others.
The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, 10 April at 11:00 at the First Cemetery of Athens. In lieu of floral tributes, the family suggests a donation to The Love Van, a charity that feeds the homeless, supports families in need, and takes action to protect the environment. Μάνος Αρώνης 1934-2023.
Ο Μάνος Αρώνης πέθανε στις 12/9 τα ξημερώματα, πλήρης ημερών, μετά από μια γρήγορη μάχη με τον καρκίνο και τα βαθιά γεράματα.
'Ησυχος, ολοκληρωμένος και αγαπημένος, έκλεισε τον υπέροχο κύκλο της ζωής του.
Σημαδεύτηκε από την εποχή του και πήγε μπροστά απ΄ αυτήν.
Έζησε τον πόλεμο, τον έρωτα, την οικογένεια, την επιτυχία, την χαρά της δημιουργίας.
Αγάπησε τη γνώση, την επιστήμη, τις τέχνες.
Υπήρξε πρωτοπόρος στο animation, στα vfx, στον κινηματογράφο και σημάδεψε την Ελληνική διαφήμιση.
Oραματίστηκε, δημιούργησε, συγκίνησε, μάγεψε, μάγκεψε, τραγούδησε, ζωγράφισε, ενέπνευσε τους γύρω του.
Μελέτησε, σκέφτηκε, γέλασε και βεβαίως έβρισε πολύ...
'Εφτασε ως εκεί που παραπέρα η μέρα δεν πάει.
Πίστεψε στον Θεό που δημιούργησε τον Θεό.
Εμείς που τον είχαμε πατέρα, σύζυγο, φίλο, συνεργάτη αλλά και όσοι τον γνωρίσαμε, τον αγαπήσαμε για την αμεσότητα του, το πνεύμα του, τον χαιρετάμε το Σάββατο στις 12:00 στο Α’ κοιμητήριο Αθηνών.

1st PACT Workshop : Grips
Athens 16 - 28 January, 2023
“If Da Vinci lived today, he would have been a grip!”… said the award winning cinematographer Woody Omens. Steven Spielberg also once stated that if he ever had to be at the dessert, he would take two things with him: a good book and a good grip!
> Would you like to learn how to operate this magnificent machine?
> Would you like to be the most valuable player on a movie set?
> Are you a resourceful and imaginative person?
It’s time to develop your skills!
The grip is the key partner of the director of photography, and together with the DoP they map out the camera movement and work out quick and budget solutions. A professional grip has knowledge of camera and lighting equipment, construction, carpentry, mechanics, electrical systems and wiring, and the general knowledge required by a technician.
In this 10 days x 7 hours per day workshop, the participants will discover the secrets of being a grip under the guidance of renowned instructors, and will use all the grip equipment in real shooting conditions and locations. The instructors are teaching staff members of the French film school “Louis Lumiere” https://www.ens-louis-lumiere.fr/en/
The workshops are organized by PACT with the support of the Ελληνικό Κέντρο Κινηματογράφου / Greek Film Centre, The Global Greek Film Initiative of Los Angeles Greek Film Festival, the Athens Film Office, as well as it is sponsored by PACT members and suppliers.
Participation at the seminars is FREE OF CHARGE, and the working language will be English.
