Rotary Club of Demerara Collaborates with Ministry of Health for NAPS Youth Camp in Kuru Kuru
On Sunday, August 4th, 2024, the Rotary Club of Demerara proudly participated in the National AIDS Programme Secretariat (NAPS) annual youth camp in Kuru Kururu. This year, the camp focused on empowering youths aged 5 to 22 through a series of engaging and educational activities.
The day was filled with diverse learning sessions and fun activities. Past Assistant Governor (PAG) Renata kicked off the event with an inspiring session on entrepreneurship, sparking creativity and ambition among the young participants. Immediate Past President (IPP) Lance teamed up with the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) to teach the art of knot tying, providing practical skills and fostering teamwork.
Rotarian Dominique engaged children aged 12 and under in a lively beginners' hockey session, while teens received valuable lessons in money management from Rotarian Alicia. Additionally, Rotarian Shivanie presented on health and hygiene, emphasizing the importance of maintaining good personal care practices.
The Ministry of Health (MOH) praised the event and expressed interest in future collaborations, encouraging the Rotary Club of Demerara to consider making this initiative an annual tradition. The positive feedback and enthusiastic participation from approximately 50 youths highlighted the success of the camp.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to the Ministry of Health, the Guyana Defence Force, the NAPS Programme Manager Dr. Tariq and his team, and our dedicated Rotarian presenters: PAG Renata, IPP Lancelot, Rtn. Alicia, Rtn. Dominique, and Rtn. Shivanie. Your contributions made this day both memorable and impactful.

We received exciting news on the Kuru-Kuru Project and enjoyed a fantastic RCD Speed Networking activity to get to know our fellow Rotarians better. Mental Health Monday!
Anxiety is a natural response to stress, and in some situations, it can be beneficial. It can alert us to dangers and help us stay focused and motivated. However, for many people, anxiety can become overwhelming and persistent, interfering with daily life.
Grateful for the opportunity to lend a hand today! ๐ We joined forces with the Civil Defense Commission to help pack essential supplies for Grenada and St. Vincent and the Grenadines. Together, we're making a difference.
The Rotary Club of Demerara has announced the successful installation of its 2024/2025 Board of Directors, held on June 29, 2024, at Olympic House in Liliendaal. The ceremony was attended by Assistant District Governor Elizabeth Cox and featured a keynote address by Dr. Paloma Mohammed-Martin, Vice Chancellor of the University of Guyana. The ceremony highlighted the importance of understanding the true nature of conflict and the role of Rotarians in fostering peace and harmony within communities.
The new board will focus on key areas such as education, health, economic and social development, and environmental sustainability, aligning with Rotary International's seven areas of focus: promoting peace, fighting disease, providing clean water, saving mothers and children, supporting education, growing local economies, and protecting the environment. Quenita Walrond, the 31st President, expressed her gratitude and excitement for the upcoming Rotary year and the final Rotary Presidential Theme, "The Magic of Rotary."
The full 2024/2025 Board of Directors includes President Quenita Walrond, President Elect Domanique Cameron, Immediate Past President Lancelot Khan, Vice President Patrick De Groot, Treasurer Ramesh Seebarran, Secretary Elizabeth Gopie, Foundation Chair Keisha Chin, Membership Chair Kester Hutson, Public Image Chair Alicia Alstrom, Service Projects Chair Fabian Stuart, and Administration Chair Aruna Lall-Chan.
Outgoing IPP Lancelot Khan was commended for his outstanding leadership and contributions, receiving the Titanium Award at the Rotary District 7030 Conference in St. Vincent and the Grenadines and the Public Image Platinum Citation for effective communication and outreach efforts. The club invites all community members to join them in their efforts to make a positive difference.
