#10
Care for a friend who has fallen,
Care for a heart that is frozen in time.
Taken unexpectedly, by circumstance, not by crime.
He was humble and kind,
Most pleasant of mind.
Athletic and sporty,
Agile, not naughty,
Driven to succeed,
Between bases with speed,
We will miss him most dearly
he was taken way early,
Just remember the grin
of our friend Ian Go-yin.

May you Rest in Peace Ian Lo.
I am SO, so sorry it happened this way. For all your kindness, this is a horribly unjust short to a beautiful life.

- Richard Stroud

Ian ALWAYS went to practice and seldom missed a game. He ALWAYS brought a great attitude and smile to his team and his teammates, When the Thunder didn’t perform well he took it hard, but ALWAYS rebounded, he was on to the next practice or game.

Tai Tam often took a week off from the scheduled HKLL games in order to travel to tournaments. Win or lose, (and we won our share!) Ian always contributed, not only on the field but with his humor and personality, on the plane, at dinners, practices, in the hotel rooms where boys would be boys. Whether it be in Shanghai, or Xiamen, Manila or Saipan he was a huge part of the great memories we should think about tonight.

We didn’t have a good tournament in Saipan, but we sure had a great time. Ian pinch ran after Bryan Tam got a hit. I was coaching first base and I could see Ian was pumped up, very excited. Ian was as fast as a cat, and on his occasion was just jumpy. I called him over between pitches and said “Ian don’t get pitched off!” He said, “OK Coach”. On the very next play the pitcher throw over to 1st and sure enough Ian got picked off. I felt bad for him. As he got up and dusted himself off he looked at me and said, “sorry coach”. A few minutes later I looked over at the bench and there was Ian, laughing with his teammates and cheering us on. He had already moved on to the next play.

To all of Ian’s teammates here tonight; you have been privileged to play a great game, and to make many friends such as Ian as a result. As you get older the challenges of playing baseball will be greater. Don’t get discouraged! If you have an opportunity to continue to play in College or as a young adult, do so while remembering the passion and the love of game that Ian had. I promise you that you will be a better player because of knowing this wonderful young man.

As we gather here tonight there is great sadness. However, as the pain of losing a friend, teammate and son fades away, I am sure that the great memories of Ian will overpower our sadness and his memory will keep us all together like a brand new, baseball and bring a smile to all our face.
