My favourite fortress this time from inside 🙂
St Nicholas' Fortress at the entrance to the St Anthony's Channel in Šibenik represents a unique Renaissance building of Venetian fortification architecture.
It was constructed on the islet of Ljuljevac, where once was the Benedictine monastery of St Nicholas, after which the fortress was named. The construction of the fortress, based on Gian Girolamo San Micheli’s design, commenced in 1540 after the fall of Skradin under the Ottoman rule.
Particular value of St Nicholas’ Fortress lies in its original form and some rare Renaissance architectural solutions, so in 2017 it was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List as part of the nomination The Defence System of the Republic of Venice between the 16th and 17th Centuries.

We are at Trogir City Loggia, which served as a courtroom in the past, and its judge’s desk is still located there. The columns on the loggia were partly brought from the ancient ruins.

Enjoying the visit to winery Kastel Sikuli, wine tasting (especially Kaštelanski Crljenak known by the name Zinfandel) and the views from the vineyard overviewing Split and Kaštela. Relax time as a part of private tour of Split and Trogir, two UNESCO listed sites with lovely family from US! 🍷🍷🍷🍷

Split Calling Festival — a festival of contemporary circus and open-air art organized by Circus Collective Association.
Festival is held at selected locations in the public spaces of the city center of Split, will offer a rich program with the aim of creating a new vision and perception of these spaces marked by tourism, gentrification, and the transformation of monolithic content. Festival provides new qualities and layers that will enrich existing spaces. Split Calling is the synergy of historical architectural heritage and contemporary performing arts — their coexistence and mutual enrichment.

Still sunny and warm in Trogir, in front of fortress Kamerlengo!
The tower was built between 1420 and 1437 during the Venetian conquest of Trogir, and is strategically located along the coast to serve as a defense. The fortress is made in the form of an irregular trapezoid with four towers at the ends, the oldest and largest of which was built earlier in the 14th century. The consultant for the building of the tower was Lorenzo Picino, while the stonemason Marin Radoj was in charge of the actual construction.
