❗️BME’s engineers help assess the damage of the earthquake in Turkey ❗️

Four experts from BME are working in Turkey to assess the damage caused by the earthquake and create safe conditions for underground rescue operations.

Experts from the Faculty of Civil Engineering and the Faculty of Architecture of Budapest University of Technology and Economics are participating in a joint project with Istanbul Technical University to assess the stability of damaged residential buildings.

Attila László Joó, Associate Professor of the Department of Structural Engineering at BME, said about the aim of the mission, “We have a close cooperation with Istanbul Technical University and it was evident that we would join the rescue efforts to help prevent further tragedies.

Between the 17th of December 2022 and 24th of February 2023, you can find us in Building E on the 3rd floor! This is where the administration for all the departments and the thesis defence will take place. You'll also find the Dean's office here.

Please pay close attention to Neptun before you take an exam because the locations for these will have changed from the familiar K building. Most exams will be in Buildings E, I and Q.

📍Unique education project – Inspireli Croatia Competition📍

In this prodigious project, students are to design 130 buildings on 150,000 m2 in Croatia and will be involved in the project from sketching the designs through building till the opening of the resort, putting their theoretical knowledge from their studies to practice.

This is a 5th year of Inspireli Awards competition for a to-be-built project (after Czech Embassy in Ethiopia or just finishing Port of Beirut Renewal competition) and this time it has an educational character. INSPIRELI AWARDS competition for Croatian resort project will be launched in September 2022 and will end on February 14th 2023, to allow Universities around the world to include the topic in the winter semesters, giving their students this unique opportunity.

This unprecedented project allows students to be involved in shaping the final design and to work with product and technology suppliers from design to implementation, giving them practical experience and bridging academia with practice, connecting students with professionals. Students can choose the scope of their focus, whether they design residential or multifunctional building, or larger area or group of the buildings. The winners will be invited to Prague to the lead architectural studio and 3D company to learn the practical aspect of design implementation. Their name will be displayed on the building designed and will be invited to the opening ceremony and enjoy 10 days at the resort for free upon its completion in 2026.

INSPIRELI AWARDS is the largest student competition that strives to support students and is open to all, regardless of their economic, social, or ethnic background – to compete is always free of charge. As Inspireli focuses on education for all (not just the winners), it offers professional feedbacks to all competing students given by architects, manufacturers and 3D specialist.

📍RIBA Silver Medal 2022 – Call for Entries📍

The Royal Institute of British Architects have been launched RIBA President’s Medals for the 2022 from schools of architecture worldwide. Awarded for the first time in 1836, the RIBA President’s Medals are the longest-standing and most prestigious architectural education awards in the world.

Every year, the BME Faculty of Architecture nominates one diploma project for the Riba Silver Medal, which is open to all students graduating this year. A jury of the BME Faculty of Architecture will make a decision whose application can be submitted to the RIBA organization. Please note that only ONE application per school can be accepted.

😷 Mandatory mask-wearing at the Budapest University of Technology and Economics 😷

From November 2, 2021, it is obligatory to wear a mask in the interior, closed spaces (classrooms, corridors, offices, library) of the university.

To protect university citizens, the management of BME has imposed a mask-wearing obligation. In the classroom, the instructor holding the lecture is not required to wear a mask. A student who does not wear a mask may be refused to participate in a lesson or exam. In dormitories, wearing a mask is still not mandatory beyond the entrance gate.
