🏆 Breaking news! A Semmelweis Egészségversenyen Lin Xia Vivi és csapata az első helyen végzett, és különdíjként meghívást kaptak az első alkalommal megszervezett Semmelweis-Kerpel Tehetségtáborba is. Itt bepillantást nyerhettek a Semmelweis Egyetem karain, intézeteiben, laborjaiban zajló munkába, és kipróbálhatták a műtéti, intenzív terápiás, szülészeti, fogászati szimulációs eszközöket, illetve kísérleteket is végezhettek.

Gratulálunk az egész csapatnak! Óriási teljesítmény egy ilyen nehéz és összetett feladatokból álló csapatversenyen ilyen eredményt elérni.

Vivi és csapattársai (Stéber Anna, Szerb Luka, Weisz Dániel és Valálik Zalán) a Szent István Gimnáziumba járnak, és a Semmelweis versenyén idén másodszorra indultak el, abban a reményben, hogy javítanak a tavalyi eredményükön. Ahogy Vivi fogalmaz, a győzelem “óriási sokk volt számukra.” Vivi tizedik osztályban kezdett el érdeklődni az egészségügy iránt, miután a Budapesti Uzsoki Utcai Kórházban végezte a közösségi szolgálatának egy részét. “Leginkább a nőgyógyászat és a bőrgyógyászat érdekel, az egészségverseny alatt is a kedvenc témaköreim a reproduktív egészség és az ehhez kapcsolódó megbetegedések voltak” – meséli Vivi.

A verseny 3 online fordulóját követően egy projektet kellett felépíteniük. “A projektmunkánk a képernyő- és social media függőségre fókuszált. Úgy éreztük, hogy nincs elég hangsúly fektetve erre az addikcióra, ami a mai modern világunkban rengeteg mentális betegség kialakulásához vezethet. A projektünk során egy kisfilmet, egy társasjátékot, posztereket és interaktív előadásokat is készítettünk, az iskolánk nagy részét bevonva a kampányunkba” – fejti ki Vivi.

“A döntőn összesen nagyjából 20 állomáson mentünk keresztül egy hétvége alatt. A feladatok között volt olyan is, amikor egy paprikát kellett szakszerűen beoltanunk vagy megadott tünetek alapján különböző betegségeket diagnosztizálnunk. A legijesztőbb állomás a BLS, elsősegély állomás volt, ahol felnőttet és csecsemőt is újra kellett élesztenünk, illetve nyílt bordatörést és egyéb sérüléseket kellett ellátnunk. Erre készültünk a legtöbbet a csapatommal, ugyanis a tavalyiak alapján tudtuk, hogy ez lesz a legnehezebb állomás. Nagy meglepetésünkre nem csak felülmúltuk a tavalyi helyezésünket, de sikerült megnyernünk a versenyt, ami óriási sokk volt számunkra! Összességében nagyszerű élmény volt, és teljes szívből ajánlom bárkinek, aki érdeklődik az egészségügy iránt, mert rengeteg, az életben is hasznos dolgot lehet tanulni.”

🏆 Breaking news! At the Semmelweis Egészségverseny, Lin Xia Vivi and her team finished in first place and received a special invitation to the inaugural Semmelweis-Kerpel Tehetségtábor. Here, they got an insight into the work carried out in the faculties, institutes, and laboratories of Semmelweis University, and they had the opportunity to try out surgical, intensive care, obstetric, and dental simulation tools, as well as conduct experiments themselves.

Congratulations to the whole team! Achieving such a result in a competition consisting of such difficult and complex tasks is a tremendous accomplishment.

Vivi and her teammates (Anna Stéber, Luka Szerb, Dániel Weisz, and Zalán Valálik) study at Szent István Gimnázium and participated in Semmelweis’ competition for the second time this year, hoping to improve on their results from last year. As Vivi puts it, the victory was "a huge shock for them." Vivi began to take an interest in healthcare in the tenth grade after completing part of her community service at the Budapesti Uzsoki Utcai Kórház. "I am mostly interested in gynaecology and dermatology; during the competition, my favourite topics were reproductive health and related diseases," says Vivi.

After completing the three online rounds of the competition, they had to create a project. "Our project centred on screen and social media addiction. We believe this addiction doesn't receive enough attention, despite its potential to cause numerous mental health issues in today's modern world. Throughout our project, we produced a short film, developed a board game, designed posters, and delivered interactive presentations, engaging a significant number of our schoolmates in our campaign," Vivi explains.

"During the final, we went through about 20 stations over a weekend. Among the tasks was one where we had to expertly inoculate a pepper or diagnose various diseases based on given symptoms. The scariest station was the BLS, first aid station, where we had to resuscitate both an adult and an infant, as well as treat open rib fractures and other injuries. We prepared the most for this with my team, as we knew from last year that this would be the toughest station. To our great surprise, we not only surpassed our placement from last year but also managed to win the competition, which was a huge shock for us! Overall, it was a great experience, and I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone interested in healthcare, as you can learn many useful things for life."

🇨🇳👥 A Chinese Club a Milestone legfiatalabb hivatalos diákszervezete, kínai nyelvórákkal és a kínai kultúráról szóló változatos előadásokkal és beszélgetős ülésekkel várják az érdeklődő diáktársaikat.

“Szeretnénk, hogy minél többen megismerjék a kínai kultúrát” – fogalmazza egy mondatba a society célját Li An Qi a diákszervezet alelnöke. “Nagyon sok előítélet és sztereotípia létezik az ázsiaiakkal és kínaiakkal szemben, ezeket szeretnénk eloszlatni és autentikus betekintés nyújtani a kultúránkba” – teszi hozzá Li Jiamo (Leemo) a Chinese Club elnöke.

A sessionok nagyon különbözőek, van hogy előadást tartanak, de olyan is van, ahol inkább a beszélgetésen, egymás nézeteinek megismerésén van a hangsúly. “Egyik alkalommal a rasszizmus volt a központi téma és mindenki megosztotta a véleményét. Máskor az ázsiai nevelésről, neveltetésről beszélgettünk és saját példákat hoztunk. Az legelső ülésünkön pedig a kínai új évet ünnepeltük és tartottunk előadást az ünnep történelmi hátteréről és a hozzá kapcsolódó legendákról.” – meséli Leemo.

Ami a jövőbeli üléseket illeti, szeretnének több tudásmegosztó alkalmat tartani, kínait tanítani és az épületen kívül is összegyűlni, például megismerkedni az autentikus kínai konyhával a Monori Centerben, a kínai negyedben Budapesten.

🇨🇳👥 The Chinese Club is the youngest official student society at Milestone, offering Chinese language classes, as well as diverse presentations and discussion sessions about Chinese culture to interested students.

"We would like as many students as possible to get to know Chinese culture," sums up the club's goal An Qi Li, the vice president of the society. "There are many prejudices and stereotypes against Asians and Chinese people that we want to dispel, providing an authentic insight into our culture," adds Jiamo Li (Leemo), the president of the Chinese Club.

The sessions vary greatly; sometimes they hold lectures, while at other times, the focus is on discussions and getting to know each other's views. "One time, the central topic was racism, and everyone shared their opinions. Another time, we talked about Asian parenting and upbringing, sharing personal examples. During our very first session, we celebrated the Chinese New Year and gave a presentation on the historical background of the festival and the legends associated with it," recounts Leemo.

As for future sessions, they plan to hold more knowledge-sharing events, teach Chinese, and gather outside the building, such as exploring authentic Chinese cuisine at Monori Center in Budapest's Chinatown.

A Stanford Egyetemen és a PGSP- Stanford PsyD konzorciumban és a Cornell egyetemen is végzett, Dr. Jiménez a pszichológiai ismeretek és a vezetői készségek összekapcsolásának világszerte ismert és keresett szakértője; rendszeresen szerepel és nyújt konzultációt nemzetközi hír- és televíziós csatornákon. 🎤💬 Discussions, collective thinking, intellectual and physical rejuvenation, dance, and theatre at the Think for Tomorrow tent at the Sziget Festival!

A legal expert and activist from France, an award-winning psychologist from America, and a bestselling author and journalist from the United Kingdom. This year, we have invited international star speakers to the Think for Tomorrow stage. Milestone Institute is participating with its own venue for the second time at Central Europe's largest music festival.

Alyssa Ahrabare is a legal expert and an expert on s*xuality and relationship education (SRE). Currently the Advocacy and Legal Lead of ENoMW, and former president of the most well-known French women's rights organisation, Osez le féminisme!. She is involved in supporting 50 victims of the po*******hy industry in 2 ongoing legal cases in France. She has 10 years of experience in designing and delivering s*xuality education programmes and training programmes for educators, and is co-author of the book "Petit guide pour une s*xualité féministe et épanouie". On the Think for Tomorrow stage, she will give a lecture on the social, cultural, and media influences affecting s*x and modern s*xuality.

Dr. Jacinta Jiménez (also known as "Dr. J") is an award-winning author, psychologist, and board-certified leadership coach. A graduate of Stanford University, the PGSP-Stanford PsyD Consortium, and Cornell University, Dr. Jiménez is a globally recognized and sought-after expert in integrating psychological knowledge and leadership skills; she regularly appears and consults on international news and television channels. Her award-winning book, "The Burnout Fix," debuted at number one on Amazon and is acknowledged as a key read in the field. Az én kapcsolódásom szónoklati versenyekhez, ideértve a vitázást, több mint egy évtizedre nyúlik vissza. A Model United Nations (MUN), a Model European Parliament (MEP) konferenciák és versenyek látogatása volt a tinédzserkorom. Elmondhatatlanul sok embert, várost, országot, kultúrát, és véleményt ismertem meg. Összességében egy hihetetlenül izgalmas, tanulságos, és emlékezetes élmény volt. Ezt szerintem senki sem vitatja, akinek volt szerencséje ehhez.

🗣️💬 Meet András Sárosi, the debate coach of the Debate Society, who has been preparing our students for prestigious competitions such as the Oxford Union Debate Competition, where three students competed in Milestone’s colours this year. Andris is a Milestone alumnus who studied with us for four years and then attended the University of Warwick, majoring in Law and Business Studies.

"I believe that a student develops not by listening, but by practising. My aim is to encourage them to express their own opinions and criticise the views of others at the podium, rather than sitting in a classroom and teaching them head-on. They should make mistakes, learn from them and make them again. I believe this is the most effective way for students to build their confidence, learn, shape and develop their own skills." – shares Andris.

How did you start working with the Debate Society? How did debating come into your life?

My involvement with speaking competitions, including debating, goes back over a decade. I spent my teenage years attending Model United Nations (MUN), Model European Parliament (MEP) conferences and competitions. I got to know an untold number of people, cities, countries, cultures and opinions. Overall, it was an incredibly exciting and memorable educational experience. I think everyone who has had the pleasure of experiencing it will agree.

What would you highlight as the most important skills for students to learn? What is the biggest challenge for you as a debate coach?

Each session starts with a dynamic workshop where we discuss examples based on real life events with the students. During this time, we assess their argumentation skills and knowledge, and plant the seeds of debating rhetoric. This is followed by a debate of about an hour in World Schools Debating Championships (WSDC) format. The topics are usually related to social science, economics, or politics, such as banning all social media platforms, supporting free migration, or even introducing a 100% inheritance tax. Our aim is to get students to question the fundamentals and develop their critical thinking, speaking skills and presentation style.

🏥 🩺 800 induló csapat, 3 online forduló és egy kétnapos élő döntő. Második helyezést ért Marx Lili és csapata a Semmelweis Egészségversenyen, projektmunkájukat pedig a legjobb 5 közé választották. A döntőben 36 csapat mérte össze tudását interaktív, játékos, de annál nehezebb feladványokat megoldva a Semmelweis Egyetem Orvostudományi Központjában. Gratulálunk a nagyszerű eredményhez!

Marx Lili, Senior évfolyamos diákunk, Szentpály Dalma mentoráltja és az ELTE Trefort Ágoston Gyakorló Gimnáziumban tanul. Csapattársai: Vida Bori, Hiezl Petra, Takács Veronika és Nagy Jázmin voltak.

Az egészségügy és azon belül is az immunológia és a neurológia területei a gimnáziumi évek alatt nőttek Lili szívéhez. “Ennek ellenére mindig is a pszichológia iránt érdeklődtem a legjobban, már egészen kiskorom óta, így a választott szakom is ez lett. Ám, ez nem azt jelenti, hogy szeretnék teljesen elszakadni a klasszikus értelembe vett egészségügytől. Szeretném megtalálni a számomra megfelelő ötvözetet a két tudományág között.” – osztja meg Lili.

Az online fordulókat megelőzően a versenyre nevező 9-12. osztályos gimnazisták megkapták azokat a tananyagokat, amelyekből fel kellett készülniük. “Ezek különböző témákat fednek le, amik évről-évre picit változhatnak (pl. alkohol/drog/tumorprevenció, mentálhigiéné, védőoltások, BLS, transzplantáció, krónikus gyermekkori fájdalom). Az első két forduló összesített pontszáma alapján vehetnek részt a csapatok a harmadik fordulóban, ahol már egy projektet is készíteni kell.” – meséli Lili és hozzáteszi:

“A döntő, ami a legszuperebb része az egész versenynek, két napig tart az egyetem elméleti karán. Különböző állomásokon mennek végig a csapatok, ahol mindig más-más típusú megpróbáltatások várják őket. A legtöbb feladat gyakorlatra koncentrál, erre a legjobb példa a traumatológia és BLS állomások, ahol tényleges balesetet játszanak el és mi vagyunk az elsősegélynyújtók. A versenyfeladatok mellett sok lehetőség adódik beszélgetni orvostanhallgatókkal is. Hatalmas élmény részt venni benne és rengeteget lehet tanulni!”

Marx Lili and her team won second place in the Semmelweis Health Competition, and their project work was selected among the top 5. In the final, 36 teams tested their knowledge by solving interactive, playful, but challenging tasks at the Semmelweis University Medical Center. Congratulations on the excellent result!

Lili Marx, a senior student mentored by Dalma Szentpály and studying at ELTE Trefort Ágoston Gyakorló Gimnázium, along with her teammates Bori Vida, Petra Hiezl, Veronika Takács, and Jázmin Nagy, achieved this great success.
During her high school years, Lili developed a strong passion for healthcare, particularly for the fields of immunology and neurology. "Nevertheless, I have always been interested in psychology since I was very young, so this became my chosen field. However, this does not mean that I want to completely distance myself from traditional healthcare. I would like to find the right blend of the two fields," Lili shares.

Before the online rounds, 9th-12th grade high school students who entered the competition received study materials they had to prepare from. "These cover various topics that can slightly change from year to year (e.g. alcohol/drug/tumour prevention, mental hygiene, vaccinations, BLS, transplantation, chronic childhood pain). Based on the total scores of the first two rounds, teams can participate in the third round, where they need to prepare a project," Lili explains, adding:

"The final, which is the coolest part of the whole competition. Teams go through different stations, where different types of challenges await them. Most tasks focus on practice, the best examples are the traumatology and BLS stations, where they simulate actual accidents, and we act as the first responders. Besides the competition tasks, there are many opportunities to talk with medical students. It is an enormous experience to participate, and you can learn a lot!"

🌟 Nguyen Hédi az ASSIST évét tölti Amerikában cserediákként és minden lehetőséget megragad arra, hogy továbbfejlessze magát és nemzetközi programokat találjon. Július elején a Yale Young Global Scholars (YYGS) programban vett részt, a Yale Egyetem történelmi campusán, szeminárokat hallgatott, projektmunka keretében filmet forgatott és bepillantást nyerhetett New Haven és a Yale mindennapjaiba.

Hédi Senior évfolyamos diákunk, Morin-Kovács Edit mentoráltja és az ELTE Radnóti Miklós Gyakorló Általános Iskola és Gyakorló Gimnáziumban tanul.

“Az irodalom, filozófia és kultúra (LPC) kurzusra vettek fel, és nagyon élveztem az egészet. Az oktatók hihetetlenül felkészültek voltak és a kedvenceim azok az előadások voltak, ahol az egészség- és drogpolitika filozófiai dilemmáiról volt szó. Lehetőség volt felvetni az ötleteimet is a vonatkozó irányelvek fejlesztéséről is. Azt a szemináriumot is kiemelném, amin a késő esti műsorok (late night shows) politikával és újságírással való kapcsolatáról tanultunk gondolatébresztő kérdéseken, csoportos megbeszéléseken és ikonikus késő esti show-epizódokon keresztül. Miközben sok olyan dolgot tanultam, amiről korábban még csak nem is hallottam, rengeteg kérdés is felmerült bennem, szóval izgatottan várom, hogy mélyebben elmerülhessek ezekben a területekben.” – meséli Hédi és hozzáteszi, hogy szerinte akkor kap az ember a legtöbbet a programtól, ha nyitottan érkezik minden előadásra, szemináriumra és vitaestre, mert csak akkor érti meg igazán mások gondolkodását és ismeri meg a sajátjától akár nagyon eltérő véleményeket.
A program másik fő eleme a Capstone projekt volt, amelynek keretében Hédi csapatával egy kisfilmet készített. “A filmünk a társas korrepetálás fontosságára világít rá egy olyan környezetben, ahol a társadalmi-gazdasági egyenlőtlenségek sokszor megakadályozzák, hogy valaki hozzáférjen a tanulmányi teljesítményét javító forrásokhoz. Nagyon élveztem hogy szabad teret engedtek a kreativitásnak, ugyanakkor kihívást is jelentett, mert alig több mint egy hét alatt kellett egy ennyire hiteles dolgot összerakni.” – emlékszik vissza.

A program minden nemzetközi középiskolás diák számára nyitott és bár nagyon kompetitív, Hédi mindenkit arra biztat, hogy jelentkezzen, mert egy életre szóló élményt kaphat!

🌟Hédi Nguyen is spending her ASSIST year in the US as an exchange student, seizing every opportunity to develop herself further and find international programs. At the beginning of July, she participated in the Yale Young Global Scholars (YYGS) program at Yale University's historic campus, attended seminars, made a short film as part of a project, and gained insight into the daily life of New Haven and Yale.

Hédi is a Senior student at Milestone, mentored by Edit Morin-Kovács, and studies at the ELTE Radnóti Miklós Gyakorló Általános Iskola és Gyakorló Gimnázium.

"I got accepted to the Literature, Philosophy, and Culture (LPC) track and thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience. The instructors were incredibly well-prepared, and my favourite lectures were those discussing the philosophical dilemmas of health and drug policy. There was also an opportunity to propose my ideas for developing the related policies. I would also highlight the seminar where we learned about the relationship between late-night shows, politics, and journalism through thought-provoking questions, group discussions, and iconic late-night show episodes. While I learned many new things, I had never heard of before, many questions also arose in my mind, so I'm excited to delve deeper into these areas," Hédi shares. She adds that the best way to benefit from the program is to approach every lecture, seminar, and debate with an open mind, as this helps to truly understand others' perspectives and appreciate opinions different from one's own.
Another main element of the program was the Capstone project, during which Hédi and her team made a short film. "Our film highlights the importance of peer tutoring in an environment where socio-economic inequalities can often prevent one from accessing resources to enhance their academic performance. I really enjoyed the creative freedom we were given, but it was also a challenge because we had to put together something so authentic in just over a week," she recalls.

The program is open to all international high school students, and although it is very competitive, Hédi encourages everyone to apply because it can be a life-changing experience!

💡🌐A világ minden táján diplomát szerzett, külföldről hazatérő vagy éppen hazalátogató fiatalok találkoztak tematikus konferenciánk keretében. A Hungarian Association of British Alumni (HABA)-val és a Future: Hungary-val közösen, a kapcsolatépítés és tudásmegosztás szellemében idén először szerveztük meg az Alumni Summitot. A panelbeszélgetések az AI oktatásra, egészségügyre, stratupokra és üzleti életre gyakorolt hatásait járták körbe a területek szakértőivel.
A konferenciát Palasics Péter, ügyvezető igazgatónk nyitotta meg, beszédet mondott még Dr. Szathmáry Eörs evolúciós biológus, Júlia Véglesi, a HABA elnöke, Korpos Gergely a BrokerChooser társalapítója, illetve Szepesi Yvette (Deputy Head of Mission, Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Hungary), később pedig Maxine Mackintosh a OneHealthTech társalapítója intézte szavait a vendégekhez. A tartalmas panelbeszélgetések betekintést nyújtottak az orvostudomány területén alkalmazott új technológiákba a Turbine AI társalapítójával, a Cytocast alapítójával, illetve a ToxGenSolutions és a Richter Gedeon Nyrt. munkatársaival. Új perspektívából világították meg az AI üzletben és oktatásban betöltött szerepét a Dentons, az EPAM Systems és a BlackRock munkatársai, a Broker Chooser alapítója, illetve intézetünk oktatói. A startup világ dinamikus átalakulását a MPP&E Capital, illetve a Diffuse Drive társalapítói, a Wise, a Startup Hungary és az MBH Bank munkatársai járták körül.

💡🌐 Young graduates from all over the world gathered at our thematic conference last Saturday. Together with the Hungarian Association of British Alumni (HABA) and Future:Hungary, we organised the Alumni Summit for the first time this year in the spirit of networking and knowledge sharing. Our panel discussions delved into the transformative impact of AI on education, healthcare, startups, and business, featuring insights from top industry experts.

The conference was opened by our CEO, Péter Palasics, followed by speeches from Dr. Eörs Szathmáry, evolutionary biologist; Júlia Véglesi, President of HABA; Gergely Korpos, co-founder and CPO of Broker Chooser; and Yvette Szepesi, Deputy Head of Mission, Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Hungary. Later, Maxine Mackintosh, co-founder of OneHealthTech, addressed her speech to our guests. The insightful panel discussions provided a glimpse into new technologies applied in the field of medicine with the co-founder of TurbineAI, the founder of Cytocast, and representatives from ToxGenSolutions and Richter Gedeon. New perspectives on the role of AI in business and education were illuminated by experts of Dentons, EPAM Systems, and Black Rock, the co-founder of Broker Chooser, and Milestone Institute’s faculty. The dynamic transformation of the startup world was explored by the co-founders of MPP&E Capital and Diffuse Drive, Managing Director of Startup Hungary as well as representatives of Wise, First Principle and MBH.
