Spotted Garden Eels…!!! These are some of the first things you will see when you visit the Bali shipwreck, the USAT Liberty in Tulamben.
They are usually hard to photograph because they retract in their burrows before you can get close enough to get a great shot. But if you are really patient, and slowly move toward a spotted garden eel (or if you are lucky enough to find a dumb individual!) you will be able to get good photos of this handsome eel. They are a bit shy, but great fun to visit!!!

Indonesian Independence Day - As told by Instructor Farish
Both of my Grandfathers fought in the Indonesian War of Independence from 1945-1949. It was from them that I got direct stories about the historical figures, why & for what they fought. During the Dutch colonial period, the Indonesian people could not enjoy the things that we now take for granted. Freedom of self-determination, rights as citizens, equality and prosperity. The Indonesian people at that time were considered as the third-class citizens, below the Dutch/Europeans and then of Indian/Chinese/Arabic descent. Humiliation, Inequality, Discrimination & theft of natural resources were normal at that time. Indonesian natives - even those who can afford to pay - can only watch cinema in the room behind the screen, so we watch movies like mirror. There's even a signboard in the restaurant that's written, "Indonesian Natives & Dogs are Forbidden to Enter"!
Of course we are so proud & grateful for the struggle & sacrifice of our heroes, so that our people today can enjoy things that one hundred years ago could never have imagined by Indonesian generation at that time. If managed properly, Indonesia in 2045, one hundred years after its independence, will leave its current status, a Developing Country to become a Developed Country.
But is being proud & grateful enough?
Certainly not.
Freedom is not free! In the past, our Founding Fathers & heroes fought physically both on the battlefield and at the negotiating table. Now is the time for me and my fellow Indonesians to fight with their respective capacities, to pay the "Debt of Independence" that was given to us by our predecessors to build Social Justice for all Indonesian people - Golden Indonesia in 2045!
