Another busy week here at Taugheen Playgroup, The children were engaging in some ‘risky play’ outdoors this week! Risky play allows children to develop self-confidence, risk management skills, and challenge themselves. Although risky by nature, allowing children to engage in risky play can actually reduce the risk of injury as children learn to assess and manage risk themselves. On this occasion we had one child who was highly confident walking along the top of the tunnel and could jump off the upright wheel, the added challenge they set for themselves was to jump into the air off the wheel which they did with gusto!! For another child they crawled along the top of the tunnel but then stood (nervously) on the wheel and with a little helping hand jumped off the wheel. For them this was a huge achievement. Each child tested their own limits, challenged themselves and overcame fears!!
While playing outside one of the children spotted a snail 🐌 out for a walk!! The children had a good close up look at him. They decided to call him Mr Snail and watched him as he slithered to the wall and kept checking on him as he progressed up along the wall. They then decided to leave a leaf on top of the wall for him to snack on in case he was hungry when he got to the top!!! 🍃
We Enjoyed the nice dry weather this week. Outdoor play is the best. Extending their learning by bringing toys outside really helps children develop their imagination skills. Let's hope the dry weather continues.
