Last July I attended the Drama League Of Ireland Summer Limerick School, a week long course in Directing. Our tutor was the brilliant Geoff O'Keeffe. Geoff instilled in me a desire to learn more and lo and behold I found a Directing for Theatre course in Maynooth University. This was a year long course, travelling to Maynooth 2 Saturdays a month and what a fantastic course it was. I learned a lot and made great friends. The closing date for assignments was a couple of weeks ago and I have never felt stress like it but it's done and dusted now and fingers crossed I'll get my cert for the wall.
One of my assignments involved directing a play, videoing it and presenting the video to the examiner. I chose Medea Redux by Neil Labute. The video has been submitted and now I want to present it along with Paul Lynchs hilarious A Time for Rhyme to an audience.
The venue is Cobh GAA Club Bar the hall and a massive thank you to Karen for facilitating us. I'd also like to thank Ian McCall for his fantastic poster design.

Haulbowline Theatre Group – A Brief History

Haulbowline Theatre Group (HTG) was officially founded in 1963 by the then Sub-Lieutenant, Liam Smith, under the instruction of Captain Peter Kavanagh, then Commanding Officer Naval Base Haulbowline.

In the early days of the group, pay was poor for those in the Navy and membership of HTG fulfilled social and cultural needs in a satisfactory and inexpensive way.

In no time at all, HTG had a large membership. However, something was not right – there was an absence of females in the group. Wives, sweethearts and friends were invited along and soon, those who were not in the Navy almost outnumbered those who were. The men did not complain!

Throughout the years, the group became a formidable force on the amateur drama scene in Ireland, performing on the Drama League of Ireland Festival Circuits. The group won the confined section of the Three-Act All-Ireland Finals in 1966 with its performance of “The Adjudicator.”
