The Walsh Western Days
Remembering the great days and family atmosphere in a great company,Walsh Western International.
A few more… the first few are from the Cork depot where a turnkey and kit assembly process for Apple, Digital and EMC was in operation. Then you have more general memories. Names and captions are with the photos.
More memories, including our Dutch Partners Ploeger Transport from Hardewijk. Also photos sent to me at the start by Sandra Michielsen of the Belgian office in Stabroek.
Fantastic piece of history here. I got a message from Barry O Halloran last night. His Father, Michael O’Halloran, was a great Friend of Larry and Colm Walsh, growing up together in Clare. He worked for Abbey Service Garage in Wicklow, a main Ford dealer and did a deal with Larry and Colm for the famous Transcontinental, a couple of “D” series Ford rigids, and Es**rt van and two Granada cars.
Barry found the photos a while back and when he came across the page he sent them on straight away with full permission to use them. They are absolutely fantastic photos.
The man on the left in the dark suit is Barrys’ father.
You’re a thorough gentleman Barry and we’re very grateful for these brilliant memories.
Another few to be going on with.🙂
Another few memories. There are a lot of ghosts walking around the first 4 photos I’d say. Photos I took myself of the now empty Dell factory in Raheen. Dell still own it and have operating offices there but used mostly for storing furniture and stuff now.
Another few, if I start getting annoying let me know. 🙂
Let’s keep the trip down memory lane going, if that’s ok.🙂
One more for now… then I’ll give you a break to have time to go through them properly and remember the golden era we lived through in these, the best of days, with the best of friends and family.
Memory Lane Part 4:
I’ll pause for a couple of days after this one to give time to enjoy the pics so far. 🙂
Memory lane part 3 🙂
Names with photos again.
Stage two of the walk down memory lane.
Names with the photos again.
Time for a walk down memory lane I think. I’m just going to go back through the photos over the next while and repost the memories. Some of you will have already seen them but, like me, they will still stir some forgotten memories. For our newer followers who may not have seen them… enjoy. 🙂
Names are with the photos… as if you’ll need them.
Hard to believe that gentleman Peter Power is 8 years gone from us already. May he rest in true peace.
The lovely Bert Louer left us one year ago on the 19 of July.
His funeral took place on the anniversary of our dear friend Richie Murphys death which was the 24th of July. Richie will be seven years gone from us believe it or not.
Two lovely guys, two great characters and two of the most helpful guys you could meet.
Sincere condolences to their families at this sad time. May they rest in peace.
Two years ago today (already)we lost our dear friend Andy Mowat.
Andy was a larger than life bubbly character and it was always a joy to be in his company. Our sincere condolences to all his family, relatives and many friends on this sad day.
Rest in Peace Andy, you brightened up a lot of lives and we’ll never forget you.
Two great photos that were posted as comments on an earlier post that deserve a post of their own.
The first photo of the Shuntex 580 was posted by Jason Finn.
The second photo of the Ploeger Transport Volvo with the Walsh Western trailer was provided by Erik Jansen.
We are extremely grateful to them both for these great images.
A great photo from Kay Curran, Jim (Da**ie) Prendergast and Paddy (Fog) Hayes. Two Walsh Western men, friends for life. 🙂
I few I discovered online and was lucky enough to be able to purchase. Most of these are new to me, one, maybe two, I have seen before but great photos.
I bought these from Ashleigh Pyke via eBay.
Notes are in the comments under each photo.
I am eternally grateful to Niamh Duggan, Jacks daughter, for being able to pay this tribute to a wonderful warm hearted man who while being such a lovely, helpful and generous guy, was also great fun to be around.
On Saturday 25th of May Gentleman Jack Duggan will be 18 years gone from us,although he never leaves our thoughts.
Niamh sent on these photos from Jacks albums (don’t worry guys, she only sent on the ones that are fit for public consumption 😁😁)
and it is SO amazing to be able to post them on the day we honour his memory. May I suggest you set a little time aside before going through the photos because the memories that come flooding back will keep you occupied for a little while.
Here’s to a true gentle giant, one of the most helpful, experienced yet humble people you could ever hope to meet. I have captioned the photos where I could but feel free to fill in the names where I didn’t know or couldn’t remember 🙂.
Rest in Peace Jack Duggan, the world won’t see your like again.
Johnny Brownrigg putting a couple of whipper-snappers in their place, he has all the looks of a safety officer, clip board and everything heaven help us all! 😂😂😂
Thanks to Paul Mcdonald for the pics.
The 11th of May, the anniversary of our great friend and colleague Tommy Byrne. Hard to believe it’s 12 years. It’s like we were only hearing the news today.
God rest you Tommy, you were one of the greats and will never be forgotten.
Sincere condolences to Tommys family and friends on this sad day of rememberance.
Funeral arrangements for the late Martin Fitzpatrick.
May he rest in peace.
Many thanks to Jon Connery for letting us know of the sad passing of Martin Fitzpatrick.
Martin drove for Christy O’Rourke and later for John Barry on Walsh Western work.
Jon also provided the photos of Martin.
Our sincere condolences to Martins Family and friends at this sad time.
May he rest in peace.
