Take care this weekend everyone. Have a virtual coffee morning with family and friends, get some fresh air (while adhering to social distancing), remember to reach out to the elderly and keep washing your hands. In order to pull together we must stay apart.

***Important: COVID-19 Status Update at UCC***

UCC confirms that a case of COVID-19 has been identified in a student. This brings to two the number of COVID-19 cases in UCC.

Contact tracing is underway and anyone deemed to have had close contact with the individual is being contacted directly by HSE Public Health.

The HSE has expressly advised that anyone who needs to be contacted by the HSE Public Health will be contacted directly, and you do not need to make contact with that department. HSE Public Health will have appropriate public health advice for those in close contact with the confirmed case.

UCC understands that our students and staff will have concerns and further information is available from the HSE, via: https://bit.ly/2WoJNtd . The dedicated HSE Live number is 1850 24 1850.

If students and staff are seeking mental health support, UCC’s Crisis Text Line is available. The Crisis Text Line's anonymous text message support service is available to UCC students and staff 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Text 'UCC' to 086 1800 280 to chat anonymously with a trained volunteer 24/7.

UCC continues to regularly update FAQ’s on its dedicated UCC COVID-19 webpage: www.ucc.ie/en/emt/covid19/ and its Emergency Management Team continues to convene regularly.

This is a time of challenge and uncertainty and UCC will work together to protect the safety of our community.

Stay in touch, stay apart and stay at home.

Just wow.

1983: A thousand links for CERN's INDEX system

In 1983, the Data-handling Division at CERN installed line No. 1000 to a terminal used for the preparation of the Large Electron-Positron (LEP) collider physics.

Most of the lines connecting terminals on-site arrived at this point, from where they were redistributed to INDEX exchanges and to remote host computers.

Today, the 400 terabytes of data stored from LEP experiments is only peanuts compared to the 50 petabytes per year produced by LHC experiments.
