Munster Schools' Debating Competition

Welcome to the official page of the Munster Schools' Debating Competition 2017/2018. The Munster Schools' Programme operates throughout the six counties.

The programme serves to foster the persuasive and analytical skills of students. It encourages the concepts of independent research and intelligent arguement, invaluable skills for any student to hold. The ability to speak confidently in public is an integral life skill and is central to the aim of the Schools' Programme. The competition is open to all students from third year up. The mantra of the programme is firmly built on development and we encourage all to take part.

Congratulations to all our very talented students who have earned themselves a place in this year's Munster Schools' Final. We look forward to seeing you all at the final on March 7th which will be chaired by former TD and minister Mary O'Rourke.

The motion for the final is inspired by the recent Gay Byrne interview with Stephen Fry.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-suvkwNYSQo

It reads:

At the end of human life on earth, the vast majority of Christians believe heaven is a place where believers go upon dying in order to enjoy the presence of God as well as other believers. Many Christians also believe that the Bible teaches the existence of hell as a place of judgment and punishment - a burning inferno for those not accepted into heaven.

Motion: Assuming there is an afterlife upon dying, THW choose to live in hell rather than in God's heaven.

Looking forward to seeing you all on the 7th for what promises to be a fantastic debate!.
