15 - LOVE
I can name a few more but here are 15 places that you can play tennis in West Cork. Can you name any more?
Bandon Tennis Club:
The club has 3 outdoor artificial grass tennis courts in green and red. It has a clubhouse and all courts are floodlit. It is an established club with history and a good membership. You can pay and play but the courts aren't supervised.
Clonakilty Tennis Club:
The club has 4 outdoor artificial grass tennis courts in red and green. There is a communal clubhouse/office and all 4 courts are floodlit. The club is in it's infancy being only a few years old. You can pay and play and the courts are supervised.
Ardfield/Rathbarry Tennis Club:
The club has 2 outdoor artificial grass tennis courts in green. There is no clubhouse as of yet but plans are in order. Both courts are floodlit(tokens). It is a proactive club with good emphasis on the junior side. The courts are free to play on provided there's no member waiting.
Kinsale Tennis Club:
The club has 5 outdoor artificial grass tennis courts in green. There is a clubhouse and all courts are floodlit. They offer a large calendar of events throughout the year for seniors and juniors. You can pay and play but the courts aren't always supervised.
BEDA Tennis Courts:
The Ballineen/Enniskean Development Association have provided two new tennis courts with an all weather rubbery surface. They are comfortable to play on but watch out for the goalposts which are too close to the baseline. The courts are not floodlit, unsupervised but I think free to play on.
Dunmanway:
There are 2 public tarmacadam tennis courts in Dunmanway which were resurfaced a few years ago. There are 2 more at Cox's Hall but I think they are private. There are no floodlights or any clubhouse. The courts are free to use but take care of the surface and they aren't supervised.
Skibereen:
There are 3 tarmacadam tennis courts at the sports complex and 2 more across the road. None of them are in great condition but all are playable. None of the courts are floodlit. You can pay and play at the supervised sports complex or play for free unsupervised across the road. The nets have seen better days.
Bantry:
The only place that I know of to play tennis in Bantry is at the Westlodge Hotel. They have one tarmacadam tennis court next to the hotel but the dimensions are a little limited. The last time that I saw it the net was badly needing of being replaced. I guess you must pay for the privilege or maybe it's free for residents.
Argideen Vale Tennis Club:
The club has 6 outdoor grass courts. There is a clubhouse but none of the courts are floodlit. The courts are only open April through to September. They cannot be played on in the rain or after a lot of previous rainfall. You can pay and play but the courts aren't always supervised. The place does have a magical quality about it.
Ballydehob Tennis Courts:
Ballydehob has two tarmacadam tennis courts in pretty good condition. They are a little close to the water so resign yourself to loosing a ball or two. I think they are free to play on and they are not flooflit. Often they are missing one net to allow basketball on the other court.
Rosscarbery Tennis Court:
Situated down next to the water, Rosscarbery has one tennis court which has a tarmacadam surface. It is in good condition but neither is there a clubhouse nor floodlights. The court is for free but again expect to walk off the court with fewer balls.
Union Hall Tennis Court:
Located next to the GAA pitch and across the road from the church is Union Hall's one tarmacadam tennis court. The court itself is in playable condition and the space is ample at the sides but cramped at the back. The court is unsupervised and free to play on.
Courtmacsherry Tennis Courts:
There are 2 tennis courts in Courtmacsherry. A tarmacadam court next to the caravan park and a concrete tennis court in the middle of the village with a concrete all on one side and the Atlantic Ocean on the other. Neither of the two courts are in good condition and thus are free, unsupervised and not not floodlit.
Drimoleague/Drinagh Tennis Courts:
There is a tarmacadam tennis court in each of the neighbouring towns of Drimoleague and Drinagh. Both are playable and free to use. There are no clubhouses or floodlights and neither venue is supervised. Drimoleague tennis court was resurfaced only a few years ago and so is the better of the two.
Dunderrow Tennis Courts:
Eli-Lilly the pharmaceutical company have a plant in Dunderrow with 2 tarmacadam tennis courts of playable condition. They don't have a clubhose and they are not floodlit. Play is really only reserved for plant workers and the local community but I'm sure they wouldn't mind if you turned up for a game as long as you leave it as you found it.
