You could spend weeks losing yourself in wild and woolly Donegal. The county’s stark beauty captivates you and, over time, seeps down to your core. Tortuous country roads skirt stark mountains, rugged sea cliffs, craggy peninsulas, sheep-studded pastures, pristine sands, icy streams and horizons carpeted with bog and heather. Cavanagh's Cottage is located in Tremore Gleneely and sits on the Inishowen Peninsula in the northeast of County Donegal which is perhaps the great overlooked treasure of the Irish landscape, offering a diverse and visually exciting terrain, where the views usually encompass the waters of the loughs or the Atlantic waves. Virtually every aspect of the landscape is superb – the beaches (especially Kinnego Bay, Culdaff, Tullagh and Pollan), the towering headland bluffs (Malin, Inishowen, Gleneely,Dunaff and Dunree) and the central mountain range, with towering Slieve Snaght at the middle of it all. The peninsula derives its name from Eoghán, who was made First Lord of the island by his father Niall, High King of Ireland. Phases of the peninsula’s history before and after Eoghán have left a legacy of fine antiquities, and visitors are most welcome at the many fort sites among the county which host the beautiful early Christian crosses. Interior Details. The front door leads on to the Old Kitchen which has an eye catching 100 year old cast iron range fire and slate floors ,the back window looks out over the fields with sheep and cattle grazing away, The kitchen is fitted with a full range of modern appliances, including a dish washer and a fridge freezer. There is a large table that seats six to eight people.The main bedroom which has a stunning French Antique bed and a lovely small stove fitted within the old stone chimney gives this room a lovely feel again with slate floors, this room leads off the old corridor and has windows looking out over the front of the house, The other main bedroom in the house leads off the Corridor and has a 5 ft bed which can be split in to two singles and has views out over the front of the house.The third bedroom is a twin off the rear hallway and views out over the back Bay Leading off the rear hallway is the family bathroom. Accessed by steep stairs is the fourth bedroom a twin, with a window overlooking the garden and sea. The main living room has a Turf/Wood burning stove. There are full width French windows with access on to a large raised modern decking area with patio furniture for you and your family to relax and take in the views, also this area makes a nice clean space for small children to enjoy some out side safe space within sight of Mum and Dad. Exterior Details. The outbuilding to the rear of the cottage which is older then the house it self contains storage of Turf for the fires for you to use as and when you feel the need.There is also a working farm within walking distance, Cavanagh's Cottage is set within open fields with acres of fresh fields and trees for the children to run and explore,and of course the adults plenty of space to either walk or relax. Further Details. Culdaff beach is only about 3km away from the cottage and kinnego 5km Both known for there beautiful scenery. One of the biggest events for Culdaff beach is the New Years Swim. People celebrate the new year by running into the ice cold water wearing their swimming gear, and are greeted with much needed hot whiskey.(Check out things to do page on web site) Gleneely village is a 20 minute walk for local shop. Conditions of Rental. Cavanagh's Cottage is available for holiday rental at your request our housekeeper will clean and prepare the house for you on the day you arrive for your welcome. On your last day we ask that you vacate the cottage by the time agreed which is when the housekeeper will arrive to prepare for the next visitors. Bed linen and towels are provided and all beds are made up for your arrival. To make a booking, a deposit of half of the amount of the rental is due, with the balance being due 6 weeks before the start of your stay. If you book less than 6 weeks before your stay payment must be made for the full amount. Oil heating,electric and supply of Turf is supplied within the cost of your stay.A damage /security deposit of 300 euros is payable on arrival and refundable when you vacant.
