Chateau Brane Cantenac’s second label Margaux de Brane, is supurb. and Chateau Marjosse 90/100 Parker, two super new additions to our Bordeaux Collection now available for wholesale.

Margaux de Brane is a blend of 58% Cabernet Sauvignon, 34% Merlot, 6% Cabernet Franc, and 2% Petit Verdot, the 2020 Baron de Brane is deep garnet-purple in color. It leaps with vibrant black cherry and baked plums notes with a core of cassis, cedar chest, and to***co plus a touch of sandalwood.

At the tasting, Château Marjosse offers a beautiful and brillan light straw color. Very complex aromas that include citrus (grapefruit and lemon), mango, pineaple, pear and white peach. In the palette Marjosse is at once fresh and suprisingly fat and lenghty.

Orange Wine Tastes Like Nothing You’ve Had Before!

Most orange wines aren’t sweet and have bold, honeyed aromas of fleshy tropical fruit, hazelnut, brazil nut, bruised apple, juniper, sourdough, and dried orange rind.

With a nod towards the traditions of ancestral winemaking dating back to the ancient Greeks and then the Romans, our great friend Boris Kovac has made this wonderful ‘orange wine’ by fermenting the juice in contact with the skins and the seeds. This is not one of those very heavy, dark, oxidative / ‘funky’ orange wines – that’s not really our bag – on the contrary this is delicate, fresh, pretty and utterly moreish.

It’s a co-fermented blend of Grenache Gris, Grenache Blanc, Maccabeu and Muscat, with emboldened structure from the tannins of the seeds and skins and natural colour from the skin pigments. The nose is a delightful swirl of mandarin and peach blossom, the palate is light and fresh and bursting with exotic flavours – mandarin, orange, candied citrus peel and a whiff of Turkish Delight. A wine with tremendous energy and personality.

Perfect with cold meats, cured ham, prawns or lobsters a la plancha or with cheeses such as Manchego, Comte or Emmental.

Wine of the week thanks to in todays Irish Independent reviews dido Rosé from husband and wife team Sara Pérez and René Barbier (Fils) who are the children of two of the great pioneers of the Priorat D.O., Josep Lluis Pérez of Mas Martinet and René Barbier of Clos Mogador. Sara and René are both very well respected vignerons in their own right, so it seemed natural that they should start a project together. For this project, they decided to stake their claim not in Priorat, but in the slightly sleepier D.O. of Monsant.

René and Sara have taken the goddess as their inspiration for this project. One of their stated goals is “to interpret femininity through a bottle of wine”. This might seem an odd choice for a bodega that elaborates Grenache- and Carignan-based wines in Southern Cataluña, but it makes sense once you taste. These are incredibly elegant, refined, sensual expressions of Montsant, with restrained alcohol levels and tremendous texture.

The grapes for the wines come from an approximate total of four hectares of vineyards which are owned by four different grape-growing families in Falset as well as another small plot owned by Venus. One could call Venus a négociant project, but it is more accurate to say that it is a partnership between these four families and René and Sara. Venus is these small growers’ only client, so their vineyards are farmed in accordance with the rigorous ecological standards set by the couple. The grapes for Dido come from the Falset area, from vineyards with soils based on decomposed granite called sauló. These soils are poor in organic matter and they contribute to producing grapes with great ripeness and fruit flavors. The grapes for Venus come from clay-calcareous soils between Marçà and Guiamets. These soils encourage a slow, elegant and complex ripeness.

From the First LEED certified estate in sustainability this magnificent winery produces top quality wines with percision and finesse.

Perelada 5 Finques Reserva has aromas reminiscent of red fruits and spices, with some balsamic notes and a toasted background. In the mouth it is fresh, well structured and balanced. Its tannins are plentiful but really well integrated. This is a wine with a great personality and a long finish.
Perfect for our irish climate.

New to our portfolio a terrific affordable alvarinho from Portugal offering fabalous value.

‘From Tajo DOC outside Lisbon the Forma de Arte Alvarinho 2022, initally has restrained nose but opens to include fresh orchard fruits and honeyed citrus. Tasty and delicious the palet is brought fresh and crisp, a captivating balance of texture and acidity with tart apple and poached pear throughout. An ideal alternative(and good value) to a regular albarino or a saivignon blanc’

Primitivo or Zinfandel ? They are the same thing originating in Italy as Primitivo and shipped to the US where it became Zinfandel.

Other grapes that are the same that share another simil;at word or completely different include but not limited to Syrah and Shiraz, Rolle and Vermintino, Verdejo and Vedicchio, Albariño and Alvarinho. Feel free to add more in the comments…

But in relation to this juicy Primitivo full of crunchy fruit At harvest time, part of the grapes are handpicked and vinified according to the traditional red wine vinification; the remaining grapes are left drying on the vines and picked up later, when completely dried (withering process “appassimento”). As soon as fermentation of the Primitivo grapes from the first harvest is completed, the obtained wine is repasted on the dried Primitivo grapes pomace which is very concentrated and rich in aromas and sugars. As a consequence a second fermentation starts increasing the alcohol percentage, reducing sugar content and giving the final wine a deeper colour and richer aromas.

This has a Generous bouquet with fruity aromas of blackberries, cherries, sour cherries and plums. Hints of balsamic herbs and floral notes. Full bodied and balanced with intense fruity return. Nice acidity and velvety tannins. long and dry finish.

What the press say:

“A family run estate with vineyards over 1000m above sea level this organic estate is eagerly sought after. Th Crianza pours bright rich purple with ripe fruit and mocha aromas, red fruits hit the palate first then chewy darker blackberries – worth its price point” Leslie Williams, Irish Examiner

About Dominio Basconcillos: Dominio Basconcillos, near Trevino in the Burgos sub-region of Ribera del Duero, was started by José Maria Basconcillos in 2000 with legendary Ribera winemaker, Tomas Postillon. Today Don Jose Marias daughters Maria José and Carmen Basconcillos run the business.

The whole bodega is modern, large and surrounded by its own vineyards on the high plateau at 960m, crucial to allowing later ripening and a higher glycerol content in the wines. Using sustainable and environmentally friendly methods and with more Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot planted than their neighbours, this is a top bodega with intentions to be a wine of reference in Ribera del Duero for the future. The Ribera del Duero DO stretches 115km from Valladolid and Peñafiel to Aranda in the east. The substrata is silty clay over limestone with poor alluvial deposits nearer the river and finer chalk at higher altitude. It is on the chalky soils near Trevino that Basconcillos sits. Altitude is important: Basconcillos benefits from cooler temperatures and better diurnal variation. This is a high frost risk area, costs are higher than the world average, and vintages are more variable than in Rioja. However, the intensity of flavours and density of these wines make them more age-worthy and certainly a counterpoint to their famous neighbour, while being ‘Spanish’ in their warmth and generosity, and world class in quality.

In todays distinguished food and wine critic hails .amezola white Reserve Inigo Blanco as a ‘Gorgeous Wine, ‘an extraordinary experience’ and ‘completely fascinating’. Thank you Leslie.

In addition The prestigious and influential wine critic Robert M. Parker, classified Rioja’s Iñigo Amézola (94pts) and Viña Amézola (90pts) as “outstanding’.

The winemaking process: Iñigo Blanco Reserva is 100% Viura, which comes from the careful selection of the Pajarcillos farm, located in Torremontalbo, next to the course of the Najerilla river (La Rioja). Harvested by hand in 15 kg boxes, with selection on the table upon arrival at the winery, before de-stemming and crushing. The set of juice, skin, pulp and seeds is led to stainless steel tanks by means of special pumps, which transport the grapes without crushing them, and start fermentation at a temperature between 28ºC and 30ºC, with two pump-overs per day so that the wine properly oxygenated. Subsequently, the alcoholic fermentation takes place, naturally, thanks to natural lactic acid bacteria also coming from the wine and the strains. Once the alcoholic fermentation has concluded, the wines are aged for 5 months in new French oak barrels, that provide the wine with greater harmony and complexity of flavours.

Wow! This wine is truly off the charts! Extremely rare, award-winning red from a superb estate in the south of France. 94 Parker Points. Available soon.

Another delightful example of good, honest winemaking from the talented Boris Kovac and his Vallée des Aigles project. This is a blend of stalwart regional favourites Grenache (55%), Syrah (35%) and Carignan (10%), fermented in old 500 litre French oak casks. After 45 days the free-run juice is transferred into smaller 2nd and 3rd use barrels for maturation.

The nose offers a flourish of delicate floral aromas and layers of ripe red fruits, especially wild raspberry and strawberry. The tannins are fine and exquisitely balanced, and the finish is sublime. Here is another wine that underlines in no uncertain terms not only how good a winemaker is Boris Kovac, but what a hugely under-estimated region Languedoc-Roussillon continues to be, and what great value it offers!

The name Cazot references the small, rudimentary stone-built shacks that were erected in days gone by to protect vineyard workers from inclement weather amongst the vines, but mostly from excessively hot Summer temperatures. Some of these structures can still be seen, fully intact or otherwise, in this part of southern France.

Escabeces is a relatively new project from René Barbier of Priorat and Monstant fame hailing from the D.O. of Tarragona. A few years ago, a farmer acquaintance approached René to see if he’d be interested in making a wine from a small parcel of 65-year-old Cartoixà Vermell, the very rare Catalan grape also known as red Xarel.lo. The trick with this wine is that, while it presents as a rosé, it is made as if it were a red wine. The Cartoixà Vermell, however, never develops a tremendous amount of pigment, so even with a long skin maceration, the wine only achieves a coppery-pink color. The grapes are harvested around 12 degrees of potential alcohol in the beginning of October. From there, they are moved to the winery, where the must ferments on the skins for a period of three weeks to a month in ceramic containers. It is then pressed off the skins to continue its aging in ceramic containers for another 5-6 months and neutral barrels for the remainder of its 18-month élevage.

Welcome to Finca Garbet! A Magical place that produces sensational wines.

There are four elements which influence the excellence of Garbet’s wines: the Mediterranean sea, which it looks out over, the warmth of its sun, a slaty soil which gives it character, and the unceasing Tramontane North wind. All these elements make up what is called the “Aires de Garbet”
(“Airs of Garbet”)

The wine, Aires De Garbet, is 100% Garnacha, aged for 15 months in second use Bordelaise-sized French barrels of Tronçais oak, 300 liters, and the rest of time in bottle.
The wine is Deep cherry-red color with violet tones. It is a wine with a terrific aromatic variety that reminds us of the Mediterranean vineyard where it comes from: the aromatic herbs that grow wild at teh base of the vines create herbaceous notes throughout the wine with red fruits and a balsamic background. In the mouth it is fresh, intense and well balanced. It presents a clear varietal personality, with mature and enveloping tannins with a silky sensation. This is an elegant wine, with a long aftertaste and offers a huge potential for ageing.
Drink now or lay down for at least 15 years. More information on the wine check out the link in bio ✔️☘️🇪🇸
