7th Jan gig in The Merry Ploughboy Pub
Sonny Condell & Robbie Overson perform many favourites from Sonny's solo albums, some from his band ‘Scullion’ with Robbie & cover songs.
What a fantastic gig to look forward to for the beginning of 2024 in the Parlour Room of The Merry Ploughboy.
Their melodic, contemorary, progressive folk songs strike a chord with one and all. Many old favourites from solo albums will feature, ie from Camouflage’, ‘French Windows’, ‘Backwaterawhile’,
‘Swallows and Farms’, ‘Seize the Day’ plus some from ‘Scullion’ and from ‘Tír na nÓg’ (with Leo O’Kelly) as well as one or two cover versions. Always a great gig, Robbie will also do a solo or two.
If you are free on Sunday January 7th, we'd be delighted to see you. Carparking available in carpark beside pub. Admission is at 8.30 p.m., cost €15. No pre-sale tickets - payment on the door on night only.

Famous Irish music and gastro pub
Welcome to the Merry Ploughboy Pub, named after our traditional music group, “The Merry Ploughboys”. As a group of Irish musicians with a like-minded passion for Irish culture and hospitality, we have been performing to Irish and international audiences since 1989. We perform at every show that takes place in this wonderful traditional Irish pub, which has operated as a roadside tavern since 1789. It is the only pub in Ireland owned and run by traditional Irish musicians, and visitors experience our authentic and hands-on approach taken to all aspects of the pub.
This is truly a gem among the many iconic traditional Irish pubs. Situated in the tiny hamlet of Rockbrook at the foothills of the Dublin Mountains and the gateway to the mountain and parkland amenities much loved by generations of Dubliners. Around the pub you will see picturesque farmland, woodland walks, 18th and 19th century stone cottages built for the workmen of the many cotton, paper, wool and flour mills which used to operate on the adjacent Owendoher mountain stream beside the pub.
When you enter The Merry Ploughboy you will experience the warmth and charm of the Irish pub - from the open log fires, the lively music, the hum of conversation to the vast array of interesting memorabilia of local history and Irish country life.
The history of the pub is best told by chatting with the many locals in the bar whose families have lived in the area for generations. We are first and foremost a community semi-rural Irish pub and for any visitors to the pub, that gives an authentic insight into Irish community life.
