Many thanks to all those who helped organise the biggest ever Heritage Week, both in County Louth and nationally. You did a great job! And many thanks to everyone who attended a Heritage Week event in Louth. There's no point organising events that don't have audiences.

A huge THANK YOU to everyone who organised events for National Heritage Week 2024!

Thanks to your incredible efforts, we had a fantastic week with over 2,326 events registered on heritageweek.ie. From the top to the bottom of Ireland, people came together to celebrate our rich heritage. Your passion and dedication made this week a resounding success. We couldn’t have done it without you! Here’s to preserving and celebrating our heritage together.

Many thanks to Community Historian Brendan Matthews for the excellent Walk n Talk covering "aspects of the history of the Laurence Gate, West Gate and Fair Gate wards of Drogheda" on Wednesday. Brendan explained how the Ward system came into existence following the granting of Catholic Emancipation in 1829 and the introduction of Municipal Reform Act of 1842. There were 3 designated Wards established in Drogheda, West Gate, Fair Gate, and Lawrence Gate There are still some 27 cast iron street and ward signs in place recognising this period which the The Tidy Towns group will be refurbishing in the next few weeks thanks to the help of a National Heritage grant and Deirdre Murphy of Archaeological Consultancy
Services Unit. Keep an eye out for more developments on this. Lovely to see the great turnout and interest at Wednesdays walk and many thanks to Brendan for his help to Tidy Towns on this project.

The entrance to Townley Hall is a little difficult to spot at the moment due to the presence of scaffolding (necessary for conservation work on the gate piers), so we put up some colourful bunting to help you find it.
