Home | Civil Defence Civil Defence is an Irish volunteer based organisation that supports the front line emergency services. The Civil Defence support the frontline emergency services in dealing with severe weather, flooding, major accidents, fire fighting and searching for missing people in Ireland.
A hard weekend's work for volunteers at this year's All Ireland Poc Fada in the Cooley mountains. Conditions turned treacherous with heavy rain and fog and the volunteers worked tirelessly in near zero visibility to ensure all patrons made it safely off the mountain.
Another busy week for Civil Defence. Volunteers were back providing medical cover at the cyclocross racing as well as participating in the National Services Open Day.

Volunteers were extremely busy over the weekend. 2 long days/late nights at the local elections count as well as covering the Dundalk Agricultural Show.
Last night we were fortunate to have Sean Leyden, tactical hazmat instructor attend our training. He gave a superb introduction to hazardous materials awareness as well as some incredible practical demonstrations.

Huge thanks to all at Meath Civil Defence who hosted us last night for an introduction to confined space rescue. Some very valuable learning took place with challenging scenarios.

After several years of service with Louth Civil Defence our 2011 ambulance has today started its journey to Ukraine where it will be put to good use helping those in need.
Great days training on the hugs@home programme today. This teaches valuable skills to help friends, family and colleagues who are coping with stressful situations. Thanks to the team from the RCSI who facilitated this.
A national emergency services parade was held last weekend in Drogheda where volunteers from Louth were joined by colleagues from Monaghan Civil Defence. A great turn out and display from all involved.

The Legends Golf Tour came to Louth last week and volunteers from Louth Civil Defence provided medical and public safety cover for the entire 7 days of the tournament. Despite very early starts and late finishes volunteers performed professionally with ever present smiles. Thanks also to our colleagues from Meath Civil Defence for their assistance.
