Out for a little forage walk today and came accross this little treasure. Anyone guess what it is? 😊
Using the rainy weather to study some old herbal knowledge. This book is from Jacob Theodor Tabernaemontanus (1588–1613) written in the old German writing with beautiful drawings. It is interesting how herbs have been used centuries ago and how much knowledge has survived until the present day. I probably will need a lifetime reading this exemplar 🙈🙈🙈

What a gorgeous day today. It finally feels like summer 🥰 I decided to go out for another harvest of Elderflower. Notice it is so bountiful this year? While I dried the last batch to use in Herbal Teas, I am going to use the fresh flowers this time to make an Elderflower cordial. I also had a little helper with me today
We are so lucky to be surrounded by plants and trees that not only give us the air to breathe and remind us of the beauty in life, but also can support us with various ailments. Like the elderberry tree (Sambucus nigra) for example.
Yesterday we made use of the sun and the dry weather to go out and harvest some of the elderflowers, which are growing abundantly around us at the moment.
Elderflowers are one of the many herbs that can help with many different ailments. Its active ingredients loosen mucus in coughs and sinus infections, alleviate the symptoms of colds, flu and respiratory infections such as bronchitis and promote healing and induce sweating in fever.
The flowers stimulate digestion, have a metabolism-enhancing and blood-cleansing effect and can thus reduce symptoms of rheumatism and gout. For toothache, the tea can be held in the mouth for a few minutes, it has an anti-inflammatory effect and provides gentle relief.
An elderflower tea stimulates the circulation and can lighten the mood and thus help with depression and anxiety. So many good reasons to harvest the healthy elderflowers in spring.
You can find the aromatic elderflowers from May to the end of June/ July. The best time to collect is around noon on dry days, because the most flavour is formed then and it also makes sure that there is no moisture present. Only collect flower umbels with few insects, especially avoid aphids.
Note that a good forager is invisible and there are plenty of flower umbels for the bees on each bush and that the elderberries can grow too.
The correct identification of the Elderflower is important as its flowers are similar to some plants that are poisonous and can be mistaken for those. One way of learning to identify the correct plants is by attending Herb walks by experienced Herbalist or Foragers.
Why not join us for a herb walk on the 19th of June? Pm or call 085-2489961 to book a place or for more information.

We all carry a wound inside of us. This isn’t a mere scrape or scratch- but a wound that penetrates to the core of our being.💔
It’s the healing of this sacred wound that acts as a catalyst for our souls growth and evolution. Without attending to our sacred wound we cannot grow or evolve. It’s our weak spot, our “achilles heal.”
I’m sure it's no surprise to you that I rely on the plant world to help me heal this sacred wound.🌿 My favorite one in this regard is Yarrow (Achillea millefolium). Achillea tells the story of Achilles, who represents the archetype of the wounded warrior🏹 🛡 which is why I like to refer to Yarrow as the “wounded healer” remedy.⚔️
Yarrow takes our traumas, struggles, and challenges in life, and turns them into teachings ✨⚗️🔥Turning poison into medicine, weakness into strength, judgment into compassion. Yarrow not only gives us the strength to face this wounded part of ourselves, but also the courage to help others heal theirs too.🙌🏽
Yarrow’s a super important herb for budding herbalists, and those just beginning their plant path. I truly believe it’s a plant that all must come to know, understand and carry within their heart for it makes us into a healer by healing ourselves first.✨
These words are just a little taste of what I share inside my Materia Medica Monthly program. So if you’d like to learn more about yarrow, and get 45+ in-depth plant monographs, tap the link in our bio to learn more!🌿💚🌿
