Exercise is so important that not walking an hour a day is considered a “high-risk” behavior. Watch the video “Longer Life Within Walking Distance” at https://bit.ly/2BsKqJP to learn more.
Ideally, how much should we exercise? Dr. Greger’s Daily Dozen app recommends engaging in at least 90 minutes of moderate-intensity activity or 40 minutes of vigorous-intensity activity every day.
Examples of Moderate-Intensity Activity include walking briskly (4 mph), hiking, biking, canoeing, paddleboarding, swimming recreationally, doing yoga, skateboarding, ice-skating, dancing, downhill skiing, and doing yard work.
Examples of Vigorous-Intensity Activity include walking briskly uphill, biking uphill, circuit weight training, jumping rope, running, playing football, rock climbing, speed skating, cross country skiing, and playing hockey.
*Before starting any vigorous physical activity, check with your doctor. If you are prone to feeling dizzy or have chronic unstable health conditions, it is always best to consult with your medical team before starting any new exercise routines.

Regardless of whether or not we eat meat, our ability to absorb vitamin B12 may decline as we age. For those 65 and older, a daily dose of 1,000 mcg of cyanocobalamin is recommended.
Our video “The Optimal Vitamin B12 Dosage for Kids, Pregnancy, and Seniors” at https://bit.ly/3866ecy explains why and gives B12 recommendations for infants, children, and pregnant or breastfeeding women.

" Grandma, how do you deal with pain?"
" With your hands, dear. When you do it with your mind, the pain hardens even more."
“With your hands, grandma?"
" Yes, yes. Our hands are the antennas of our soul. When you move them by sewing, cooking, painting, touching the earth or sinking it into the earth, they send signals of caring to the deepest part of you and your soul calms down.
This way she doesn't have to send pain anymore to show it.
" Are hands really that important?"
" Yes, my girl. Thinking of babies: they get to know the world thanks to their touches. When you look at the hands of older people, they tell more about their lives than any other part of the body. Everything that is made by hand, so is said, is made with the heart because it really is like this: hands and heart are connected. Masseuses know this: When they touch another person's body with their hands, they create a deep connection. Thinking of lovers: When their hands touch, they love each other in the most sublime way."
" My hand's grandma... how long haven't I used them like that!"
" Move them, my girl, start creating with them and everything in you will move. The pain will not pass away. But it will be the best masterpiece. And it won't hurt anymore. Because you managed to embroider your essence."

Researchers at the London School, Harvard, and Stanford compared exercise to pharmaceutical interventions and found that exercise often worked just as well as drugs for the prevention of diabetes and the treatment of heart disease and stroke. Exercise is just one of four lifestyle behaviors found to significantly extend our lifespan. Exercise is medicine.
Dr. Greger's Daily Dozen recommends 90 minutes of moderate-intensity activity, such as brisk (four miles per hour) walking or 40 minutes of vigorous activity (such as jogging or active sports), each day.

Vitamin B12 is not made by plants or animals, but by microbes that blanket the earth. In today’s sanitized, modern world, the water supply is commonly chlorinated to kill off any bacteria. So, while we don’t get much B12 in the water anymore, we don’t get much cholera, either, which is a good thing!
A regular, reliable source of vitamin B12 is critical for anyone eating a plant-based diet. Though deficiency for those starting out with adequate stores may take years to develop, the results of B12 deficiency can be devastating, with cases reported of paralysis, psychosis, blindness, and even death.
Dr. Greger has updated his recommendation for B12 supplementation, now suggesting at least 2,000 mcg (µg) cyanocobalamin once each week, ideally as a chewable, sublingual, or liquid supplement taken on an empty stomach, or at least 50 mcg daily of supplemental cyanocobalamin. (You needn’t worry about taking too much.) You can also do servings of B12-fortified foods three times a day (at each meal), each containing at least 190 percent of the Daily Value listed on the nutrition facts label. (Based on the new labeling mandated to start January 1, 2020, the target is 4.5 mcg three times a day.) Note that those over age 65 essentially have only one option: taking 1,000 mcg a day.

A common misconception about soy foods is that they promote breast cancer growth due to the phytoestrogens. However, there are two different types of estrogen receptors in the body—alpha and beta receptors. Soy phytoestrogens bind to and activate beta receptors, which have an anti-estrogenic effect, inhibiting the growth-promoting effects of actual estrogen. This is something we’ve known for more than 10 years. So, where did this outdated notion that soy could increase breast cancer risk come from? A study on mice. It turns out, though, that we are not actually mice. Watch the video "Is Soy Healthy for Breast Cancer Survivors?" at http://bit.ly/2pEBUAe to learn more.
