Sail training Ireland voyage is under way, a busy day on the water it’s great that all the crew are well up for the task, leaving cross heaven this morning, making our way down the coast to dungarvan. With strong winds, we were happy to have them behind us, allowing us all time to learn knots and get the know charts and how to know our bearing. Whats a great team, now for dinner and card games.

The Atlantic Program - Pilot

Complete ✅ and what a success .... 🙌

We are going home with deep gratitude for such an amazing program and an inspiring group of participants 🙏

This week we did:

•4 days & 3 nights aboard the ilen ship
•explored clew bay and surrounding islands
•experientail and adventure therapy while aboard
•practiced: goal setting, mindfulness, reflections, solo work, team work, acts of kindness and self check ins
•AA/NA fellowship meeting

Then....

•2 days of residential group therapy on Achill Island
•Compassion Focused Therapy
•Grounding exercises
•Open process group facilitated by 2 outside addiction recovery therapists and our own SIW psychotherapist

What is this new program at Sailing into Wellness? 🤔

The Atlantic Program is a new initiative where we take our experiential therapeutic sailing model, and add extended space for traditional talk therapy and group therapy alongside.
The idea is to create a space post sailing where people can journey deeper and focus on intentional therapeutic work after their lived experience on board.

Feedback from participants:
"My head has never been this quiet"

"I found a part of myself that I got to reconnect with... I want to get to know that part better"

"There were challenges on the boat, but that's like life. You can't stop them coming, but it's how you react"

"This was better than any treatment centre, psychiatric ward or drug"

Thank you to our friends for helping us to run this pilot and taking part.

Now time to rest 🙏

We are on our second week of a month long program here on Lough Derg working with our groups from Limerick & Clare.

This is our third year being hosted by and this is one of our favourite sites to operate from. We are grateful for this location as we witness participants experience the benefits of getting out of the city and onto the lake. Peace, nature, connection.

We have returning groups:
1) Bedford Row- families affected by imprisonment
2) HSE Rehab - post psychiatric care
3) Foroige - youth at risk
4) CAMHS - adolescent mental health service

Each group is doing our 'Foundation Program'. They come in one day a week for 4 consecutive weeks. The program is experiential and based on a trauma informed & strengths based approach.

Participants are met wherever they are at in their journey. The day is tailored to meet their needs and goals. People are invited to reflect on areas of success and challenge and transfer learnings from the water back to their everyday lives.

Some feedback so far:

"I can believe how relaxed I felt today"

"I cant wait to tell my kids that I actually did it!"

" I was super anxious before coming in. Nervous of the whole lot; new people, not thinking I'd be able to do it, fear of the water... But I actually really enjoy it"

"I haven't felt this clear in my head in years"

We like to take a moment and thank everyone who helped run our three youth programs recently. We have been working with and west view. It’s is all made possible by the it’s was great to have David Browne and Eimear Cussen down from the port of cork to have a look at the programs we run. The funding from the port of cork allows young adults to explore alternative learning environments with us, where other learning platforms may have no been successful in the past. For other it may be something to look forward to every week and to have time each week to be social. These programs mean so much to this young people and we can’t thanks the port of cork enough for this.

Thanks you also to the .ie and the for sharing the new of this amazing programme

Sometimes the winds are against you and the tides too, but you just have to keep going a ask for a helping hand! This was proven yesterday by Life Centre Cork with a strong a cold north pushing against them, they pushed on and made it home.. with good tack and great angles, they made it as a team! Great to see some these young adults working hard and pushing through hard times

Last week we attended the .ie awards. Sailing into wellness was nominated for the most impactful company. We were delighted to be nominated, to stand on stage with like mind organisations who care as much as we do about helping people through the outdoors. Very proud to stand amongst greats! And of course, huge congratulations to and .therapy who won! Well deserved, they do amazing work, if you don’t know who they are check them out! We left the awards feeling very inspired by the most outstanding outdoor achievement done in the last year! A common theme that come up a lot during the awards was the benefits that everyone gets from being outdoors and how many different ways there are to enjoy the outdoors. Thanks a million for the event gathering such amazing people!
