Studiomove Architects
Studiomove Architects is the new rebrand of Carr Architects. The original architectural practice was set up by Barbara and Seamus Carr in 1991.
Now focusing on what we do best - residential architecture; one-off houses, period renovations or multi units
My background for webinars and one-to-one's with my clients - opinions please! Is it too busy? Should I add different things? Is it distracting?

Now that summer is here, why not consider the pros and cons of solar panels for your home?
The older types are hot water solar, which give lashings of hot water in the summer, and little in the winter. βοΈ
The newer types of solar panels are photovoltaic or PV, which generate electricity. This is much more useful than hot water, especially as more and more homes are becoming all electric.
Not only will you reduce your carbon footprint, but you'll also save on energy bills.π Imagine watching your batteries charge as you soak up the sun, knowing that you're contributing to a greener future.
However, keep in mind that the initial installation cost can be high. One way to cut costs is to forgo installing batteries, instead selling the electricity you generate directly back to the grid. Or by powering an electric car, which effectively acts as a battery.
Bear in mind that the correct orientation of the panels is important, ideally facing directly south. They also have an optimum installation angle, which is why you see them fitted at an angle, even on flat roofs.
They are worth considering. Would you try them out? Discuss in the comments below!π¬
Why is natural lighting a big deal in architecture? Itβs like magic for your mood, makes colours pop, and saves on energy bills! πβ¨
Imagine waking up to a sunlit room that feels warm and welcoming every day. Let the sunshine in and transform your space! π»π‘
Enjoy your summer garden by integrating these architectural elements to create a beautiful, functional, and inviting outdoor space! πΌπ‘
Create Outdoor Living Areas: Designate zones for dining, lounging, and entertaining with comfortable furniture and shade structures like pergolas or canopies.
Privacy Screens: Use hedges, screens, or decorative fences to create private areas, making your garden a cosy retreat.
Maximize Natural Light: Use reflective surfaces and strategically placed mirrors to enhance sunlight, creating a brighter and more inviting space.
Use Levelling: If you have any outdoor buildings such as a shed or storage room (or our studio!) add steps and keep the flooring above the garden for a maximised view of the outdoors!
Working in architecture is always going to involve compromise, being open to new ideas, and finding solutions to problems you may not have considered before. But the one thing you DON'T want is results that you're unhappy with.ποΈ
You can't predict the future, but you can plan for it. So make sure, before any project big or small, that you weigh out your options and think about any aspects you don't like whether it's a type of layout, colour, brickwork or shape, as long as you make it clear you're bound to get results that you're happy with.π‘
A well-designed kitchen can enhance functionality, improve the flow of your home, and boost your overall quality of life. As you can see we made sure this one was warm, and inviting, yet provided enough open space for the heart of the home, dogs included. πΎ
Every bird needs a nest. Everyone needs a home uniquely for them. π‘β¨ A place that reflects your personality, meets your needs and offers comfort.
Let's design spaces that truly feel like home.
Ready to refresh your home for summer? βοΈπΏ Here are our top tips for summer interior design:
Add Greenery: Bring the outdoors in with potted plants and fresh flowers for a touch of nature. Many plants can thrive in the heat!
Use Lightweight Fabrics: Opt for linen or cotton curtains, throw pillows, and bedding to keep things light and breezy - providing more comfort both visually and physically.
Incorporate Natural Elements: Think wicker furniture, bamboo accessories, and wooden accents for a relaxed, beachy feel.
Swap Out Rugs: Replace heavy rugs with light, breathable ones like jute or sisal.
Maximize Natural Light: Keep window treatments minimal to let in as much sunlight as possible. Take advantage of the longer days!
Add Outdoor Living Space: Extend your interior style to outdoor areas with comfortable seating and stylish decor. The last thing you want to do when the weather is nice is stay cooped up inside!
Give your home a summer makeover and enjoy the season in style! π
This beautiful family home located in Limerick was in desperate need of some upgrades and restoration - which is where we came in!
The clients wanted the historic features and details to remain, but for there to also be more modern facilities in order to raise a family and provide more comfort.
By adding new brickwork sourced from the original brick factory in Wales, double glazing (without taking away the beauty of the stained glass windows) and extensions for more functional rooms (such as kitchen, laundry, etc.) we were able to create this romantic family home for our very happy clients!

Windows are more than just a view! π‘β¨ They play a crucial role in home design by:
π Bringing in natural light: Large, strategically placed windows can transform a dark room into a bright, inviting space. Make good use of the placement of your windows!
π¬οΈ Providing ventilation: Properly placed windows allow for natural airflow, reducing the need for artificial cooling and promoting a healthier indoor environment. For instance, casement windows in the kitchen can help eliminate cooking odours and keep the space fresh.
π Enhancing aesthetic appeal: The style and placement of windows can significantly impact the look of your home. Are you after something more traditional, or maybe modern?
Whether youβre building or renovating, donβt overlook the importance of windows! They are essential for creating a comfortable, stylish, and healthy living space.
What is it that really makes a home, a home?π It's that feeling of leaving work, coming back from travelling, entering the space that is truly yours, where you feel comfortable, free, and in a place that truly reflects you.
A proper home should address all your needs, and fit into your schedule, the people you live with, and the environment around you.
That's what differentiates us from other architects - we make sure to spend time with and get to know every client we meet so that we can help them map out a home that truly reflects who they are and what they're looking for.

Nature's power is undeniable! πͺοΈπ Buildings can crumble due to natural forces, often influenced by plants and vegetation. Hereβs how:
π³ Tree Roots: Roots can grow into foundations, causing cracks and structural instability.
π± Invasive Plants: Certain plants can weaken structures by growing into walls and other materials.
π Vines: While beautiful, vines can damage exterior surfaces and trap moisture, leading to decay.
πΏ Plant Debris: Leaves and branches can clog drainage systems, causing water damage.
π§ Water Retention: Plants can hold moisture against buildings, leading to mould and material weakening.
π¬οΈ Wind Damage: Trees and branches can fall during storms, causing significant damage.
Understanding how plants affect buildings helps us create more resilient structures. Ask me how I know!
A bathroom shouldn't just be functional, but rather a relaxing retreat. Using cooler colour tones creates a more calming atmosphere, and the marble surfaces not only create a sleeker appearance but also are much easier to maintain and keep sparkling clean.π°
Looked at on a standard-size colour swatch card, these colours look very similar. Itβs only when you paint a bigger sample that you can see how much they differ - the importance of taking the time to make larger samples!
Which shade of blue would you choose for interior walls?
Transform your bedroom into a cosy oasis with blue-coloured tones and plush textures ποΈβ¨ The timber panelling and shelving on either side cleverly hide a chimney breast in the bedroom.
Sweet dreams await in this dreamy space! ππ€

π Upgrading your home may bring new features, but don't forget about maintenance! π‘ Keeping up with repairs ensures your space stays shiny and functional.
Consider what maintenance tasks you're able to commit to, and which ones you would rather find alternative options to. With the weather finally improving, it's the right time of the year to start thinking about what needs doing.
And don't forget to prioritise safety! βοΈ
Choosing a new colour for your walls - whether it's minimalist or vibrant - can be a daunting task. It's a big commitment, and with certain colours comes a point of no return.
That's why it's crucial to create test squares in different positions of your room, so you can look at it from different light perspectives and test out exactly which shade you want.
And never worry about wasting paint - most colours you test with can be used as a layer underneath!ποΈ
