Play It Right β
An excellent post by Seanflannerypt recounting his experience of coaching at Melview Football Club and the benefits it brought him in later life.
Whatβs possibly missed , mainly as itβs not the focus of the piece. Is the impact Sean and the rest of the Coaches/Mentors have had on of young boys and girls who have worn the black and blue and who went on to become successful young adults in their own right, Some in the world of sports , but also in a wide variety of careers.
Thanks to Sean and all the coaches and volunteers who have been part of our history, hopefully Seanβs story will encourage more young adults to volunteer at their local club.

TT to one of my first-ever coaching roles, if you could even call it that.
I was 16 or 17 in my LC year, helping out with an underage team that went on to be very successful at that time.
Muddy pitches, freezing cold evenings, planning and setting up sessions on the back of school hardback notebooks (shows what I thought about geography ) and trying to help out anyway I could while trying not to say the wrong thing.
Back then, I had no idea what I wanted to do in my LC year or for a few years afterward. I remember feeling very lost, lacking direction and confused about what to do next.
Football was all I knew and wanted to do. Being in that environment at a young age provided a great stepping stone although I didnβt realize it at the time for my transition into a full-time fitness and nutrition coach.
One lesson that stands out for me from this experience reflecting on it today , that is time is never completely wasted.
You may think itβs insignificant at the time doing things behind the scenes, getting up early when you could stay in bed, or putting yourself into new situations in hope but those moments can sometimes open doors in the future you may not have considered possible before.
Trust in the process and do the very best you can.

In the case of Melview Football Club star dual sportstar Andrew Fitzpatrick this old Latin proverb absolutely rings true.
Last weekend Andrew won a hatrick of Gold Medals π₯ π₯π₯ whilst representing Longford AC in the All Ireland Athletics Championships in Tullamore.
Andrew amazingly added three medals in the U12 Shot Put / Turbo Javelin and High Jump to the 3 titles he won with Melview Fc U11 Premier Division, U12 Premier Division and U13 David Flaherty Cup.
Congratulations Andrew on a fantastic year all round ππ»ππ»ππ»

The recently finished 2023/24 season will enter the record books as the most successful season in Melview Football Club history.
Not only on the pitch where we won 7 different competitions but more importantly off the pitch where weβve seen record numbers of children playing for our club , meaning record numbers of teams entered by the club in the Longford League including two girls teams which has become the fastest growing section of our club.
None of this would be possible without the support of firstly our coaches who all volunteer their time freely and are hugely dedicated.
Along with our sponsors, parents, and of course the Longford League who currently allow us to use their fantastic facilities at Abbeycartron as our home ground.
Massive thanks to all the stakeholders, without whom none of this would be possible.

Our U13 Lions crowned a record breaking season for our club with a comprehensive victory over a spirited, well organised UCL Harps team.
Charlie Maguire opened the scoring after 10 minutes heading home powerfully from a delightful corner kick from John Fitzpatrick.
Our second came on the 15 minute mark a fine solo run from from El Nathan Okoh saw him pick out Paul Aigobun at the back post on the left winger made no mistake from 10 yards out.
Our third came on the 20 minute mark after a delightful through ball saw Fionn McCormack Crowe beat the offside trap and expertly finish past the out rushing goalkeeper to make it 3-0 at half time.
The second half was more nip and tuck than the first with both teams having spells of possession before Ife Adeniyi made a fantastic save 15 mins into the second half to maintain Melviewβs advantage.
Player of the match award winner Fionn McCormack Crowe put the tie beyond doubt on the 20 minute mark racing clear before lifting an exquisite lob over the advancing Ucl keeper to make it 4-0.
Tommy McDonagh was brought down in the box after a fine solo run with 3 minutes remaining with the same player dusting himself off before tucking home the resulting spot kick to make the final scoreline 5-0.
Thanks to coaches John Fitzpatrick and Ollie Kelly for all their hard work and all the players and their parents for their continued support.
Fantastic to see so many players from our other teams coming out to support their club mates .

Kenagh Utd won (2-1 AET )
Heartbreak for our U14 Lions yesterday losing out to a last minute of extra time goal from Kenagh Utd in the Brennan Cup Final.
Ben Trappe opened the scoring for Melview in the first half only for Kenagh to equalise soon after from the penalty spot.
Both teams went in search of a winner but it was to be Kenaghs day as they grabbed it very late on just as everyone was expecting the game to go to penalties.
A fantastic season for Zack & Gavinβs young squad who no doubt are already looking forward to next season.
Hard luck boys

LDSSL U12 Major Division Final
Inter Newtown 0- 3 Melview Football Club
Alexander Swiadek β½οΈ
Paul Aigobun β½οΈβ½οΈ
Our U12 Lions this evening lifted the Martin Devlin LDSSL Major Division title with a hard fought victory over a well drilled Newtown side.
The first half was a tight affair with Melview having lots of possession without creating a lot and Newtown creating a couple of good chances from set pieces keeping the Melview defenders on their toes.
The game turned in Melviews favour midway through the second half when the ball broke to Alexander Swiadek and the makeshift striker poked home from 8 yards and a scramble in the box to make it 1-0.
Melviewβs second was a cracker , ElNathan Okoh whipped in a perfect delivery from the corner and the onrushing Paul Aigobun delivered a thumping header beyond the Newtown goalkeeper.
Aigobun got heβs second and Melviews third finishing from close range after a good team move to seal the victory.
Congratulations to Melview coaches Chris Walsh and Niall Gray who look forward to Sunday where they face Balyboro in the Tynan cup final with a chance of completing a historic double.
Well done everyone involved ππ»ππ»
