Shannon Athletic Club
We train kids aged 7-17 from the area of Shannon and adjacent towns. Our main interests are running, hurdlers running, long jump, and high jump.
As we are affiliated with Athletics Ireland, all our coaches follow national guidelines for Children's Sports. All our staff, including volunteers, is Garda-vetted. Shannon Athletics Club has operated in the area since 1969.

Shannon Athletic Club cross country training will start tomorrow, Sunday, September 22nd at 10am. For kids 7yr old and over.
We are meting at the car pk in front St Tolas National School
at 9.50am for a 10pm start.
We will be training on the hills across the road. Please bring water!

๐ฃ For anyone looking to get in shape or improve their fitness and speed, the adult sprints and middle distance sessions are on at 6:30-730 this evening at the track.
Also, the adult throwing group has moved their session to:
6:45-7:45 Tuesday and Thursday
going forward. Like the running groups, this is open to men and women, and provides a good way of improving strength and conditioning.
As always, we offer 2 free try before you buy sessions, so please feel free to come down and give it a go ๐
๐๐ซถ Thank you so much for coming to our first Wednesday session for kids of this School Year :) It was a fantasting evening that gathered 89 kids, 20 of which were the new members! ๐
We cannot express how proud and happy we are. ๐ฅณFor example we used our running track, giving the kids the chance to run to the last breath ;)
In the whirlwind of activities, our cameras took a backseat, resulting in a scarce photo finish. Oops! Our apologies for the snapshot scarcity โ we'll be on our A-game next session, camera in hand and ready to click! Promise!๐๐๐ฉถ

Tuesday, September 10th:

1. Eamonn Cleary, our esteemed National gold medalist,
will lead the Throwing Group for Adults.
2. Frank and Wojtek will debut the Sprint and Mid-distance runs
for adults, utilizing the newly constructed jogging track on
our grounds.
Wednesday, September 11th:
๐ข Training for younger kids, now aged 7 to 11, will take place from 6.15 to 7.00 pm. Please note the slight change in age range from the previous school year.
๐ From 7.00 to 8.00 pm, training for older kids, aged 12 to 17, will occur.

๐Attention Parents! We are happy to inform that our trainings for kids are back after the summer season ๐
๐ต We start next Monday, September 9th.
The timings remain unchanged, however, there has been a slight adjustment in the age groups. The schedule for this school year is as follows:
Monday:
12 - 17 year-olds
6.30 - 7.30 pm
Wednesday:
7 - 11 year-olds
6.15 - 7.00 pm
12 - 17 year-olds
7.00 - 8.00 pm
Place: Shannon AC Track near St. St Senans RFC
We warmly welcome all children aged 7 and above and are excited to see both returning members and new faces. ๐ Please note that the first session for newcomers is a trial and therefore free of charge. You are welcome to bring your children to the track to experience it firsthand.
Then a child needs to be registered through Athletics Ireland. This goes under the QR code provided in the poster. Please don't also forget about our quarterly fees of 30 euro per child.
Subsequently, registration for a child must be completed through Athletics Ireland, which can be done using the QR code provided on the poster. Also, please remember our quarterly fee of 30 euros per child. See you all on the Track! ๐

๐ It has only been eight months since we reopened in January 2024, yet we have accomplished so much! This is all due to our amazing community of athletes and fantastic supporters. With the new season approaching, we want to showcase the milestones of our journey thus far. Keep an eye out, as full details of the upcoming season will be revealed shortly!
๐ Our Milestones:
- January: Grand Reopening - We kicked off with a bang, welcoming members old and new.
- February: Eamonn Cleary won a gold medal for the over 40s Shot Putt Shot Put in the Munster Indoor Championships.
- April: We hosted Shannon Communitygames on our Track giving Shannon Community a great place to enjoy sports. We secured eight medals at Clare Track and Field Championship.
- May: Our Coaches represented us during Regeneron Great Limerick Run. Eamonn Cleary and Rob Bryan took five medals during Munster Masters T&F Championships in Templemore.
- June: Clare Community Games in Ennis - Our junior team clinched the regional championship, a testament to our youth development program.
- July: We got a winner at the Munster B Championships at Templemore Track. During his third and final throw, Sean Cleary won a gold medal for turbo javelin.
- August: Our Throwing Section secured nine medals at the National Masters Track and Field Championships in Tullamore. And our young athlete, Evan Murphy won bronze in the Munster Community Games.
๐ฅ Main Achievements:
- Upgraded Facilities - New investments have been made in additional parking spaces, improved fencing, and a jogging track, the latter of which was co-funded by The Community Recognition Fund, ensuring our athletes have the best to train with.
- Community Outreach - A new portacabin has been donated to us, and we have also raised substantial funds through various fundraising initiatives for the further development of our track.
- Dedicated Coaching - We have attracted qualified and committed coaches, providing unmatched expertise to our members.

Another great news today! Rachel Akers continues to shine by winning silver in the weight throw at the World Masters Championships in Gothenburg. ๐๐ Huge congratulations, Rachel. You are a real Champion!
