Injury Prevention Training
πΉThe term βInjury preventionβ is pretty self explanatory - it involves strategies which aim to reduce the quantity and severity of injuries.
πΉInjury prevention involves more than people think. In the sporting world for example you have recovery strategies such as sleep, rest days and nutrition along with activity specific strengthening exercises to name only a few of the elements involved in helping an athlete stay injury free!
πΉSomething people commonly do not realise is that not only elite and recreational athletes need to incorporate injury prevention strategies into their weekly routine, it is also just as relevant in all work places such as for hairdressers who spend all day on their feet and for office workers or students in school / third level education who are exposed to a lot of screen time and incorrect posture while studying.
πΉOver the next few weeks I will post some content regarding tips and strategies to help athletes, employees and students to avoid the most common injury and pain complaints from their particular sporting or day to day work-related activities!
πΉIf you are someone who suffers from a particular pain complaint which you feel is brought on from your activities in sport or at work, college or school drop me a message and let me know what it is that bothers your and I can either give you a direct reply with advice or post some public advice if it is a common complaint!
For those of you who may not know my background, hereβs a bit about me! π§π»ππΌ
π I completed a four year Bsc in Athletic Therapy and Training in DCU between 2016 and 2020. During my four years there I was lucky enough to complete team placements in a number of sports including golf, Gaelic football, hurling, camogie, athletics and rugby.
πΉ In my final year of study, I completed 5 months clinical placement in North Dublin Physiotherapy clinic. This provided me with an invaluable in-depth experience where I got to oversee, and eventually lead assessments of clients with a variety of injuries on a day-to-day basis.
ππ»ββοΈ Since I was a kid my parents have been heavily involved with coaching athletes North Sligo athletic club! I was lucky enough to represent my club many times on the track in middle-distance events and, more recently I represented my University DCU athletics academy in inter-varsity events.
π Despite my commitment solely to athletics throughout my teenage years, in the last 2 years I have returned to playing Gaelic Football for my home club Drumcliffe Rosses Point and have been part of the senior panel.
πLast but not least, I am now based back home in Sligo for the foreseeable future!
If anyone has any current injury issues or simply wants to keep on top of their training load do not hesitate to contact me for advice, I will be happy to help! π€π½
