We have two upcoming online webinars planned to support parents, teachers, and other professionals who work with children and young adults with Down syndrome.

▪ Managing Behaviours at Pre-School and Primary School Stage -Monday the March of 28th, from 7 pm to 8.30 pm.

▪ Managing Behaviours at Post Primary & Young Adult Stages - Thursday the March of 31st from 7 pm to 8.30 pm.

We are delighted to welcome Mr. John Curran - Behaviour Specialist as our guest presenter for both webinars.

John has over 15 years of experience supporting parents and professionals who are involved with individuals who challenge using behaviour across a wide variety of environments (family homes, schools, respite facilities, residential units etc.).

This service has been used by a variety of clientele across a wide age bracket (youngest client 2yrs old - oldest client mid-70s). A professional service, it is used frequently by high profile agencies such as HSE/TUSLA/CAMHS as well as many charities, schools, support groups across Ireland, collaborating with social workers, psychologists, teachers, SNAs, parents, foster carers, and other staff within professional settings.

The aim of the service is to educate and empower adult figures involved with individuals who challenge using behaviour by giving them the tools to impact positively on as many areas as they feel they can when helping an individual to progress and reach their true potential.

Registration for each webinar will open in due course.

Details will be posted on our social media and on our website. Members are asked to share this information with schools, teachers, SNAs and any other interested persons or groups. Questions to be answered each night must be submitted in advance of each webinar – further information to follow.

Climbing & Flying!!

Tramore Inclusion Park Waterford has a great number of climbing frames. This amazing wooden climbing frame is perfect for practising climbing, balance, jumping and pretend play.

Ironing Beads

My kids love these!! So simple. Use the beads to make a pattern on the templates provided. Then have a grown up use the iron with some parchment paper to fuse the beads together. This creates amazing little patterns for decorating or gifting.

Great for fine motor development and creativity!

Child Health and Therapy Planner.

This product was developed to help parents of children who are supported by multiple professionals.

The My Pro Team planner aims to help parents keep track of and prepare for appointment dates and professionals seen. It encourages parents to take note of assessments pending so they can be followed up easily. It also encourages documentation of goals and plans so that parents can develop a greater sense of what is needed for their child as time moves on.

One of the main reasons why I developed this planner was in response to parents attending appointments with me and not being able to recall information from previous professional appointments. This, is not a fault of parents. But it is often very overwhelming trying to gain and understand information at appointments, especially when they are very short. That said, having good quality and accurate information about appointments and plans helps professionals with their care plans. Knowing who to contact, what has happened at appointments and what is happening next is all invaluable information for professionals. This is especially true when the professionals work in different buildings.

Folding play mat...WHAT a toy!!

This mat is a simple version which I got in Decathlon. A similar version can be gotten in IKEA. And a larger, more durable version can be found at Wesco.

I love these mats. I may be easily pleased. But they are so handy and fun to play with. So many opportunities for play and movement.

For infants, depending on the way you fold it, the mat can be used for all positions of play. That is, playing on child's back, tummy, rolling, kneeling, sitting and side sitting and crawling.

The mat can be folded into a tunnel to encourage your child to crawl. A great game to enhance face to face interaction is to position yourself at one end of the tunnel looking through, and encouraging your child to crawl under and to you while you make funny sounds and faces!!

Placed upright like a wall the mat can be used to crawl around, playing chase. Or peeking over, playing peek-a-boo.

Simply left fully folded and flat down, the mat can act as a step for practising step ups or jumping off (with supervision of course!!). Or for an infant, sitting side on to the step and being encouraged to rotate her spine to twist the body in order to reach for toys on the mat. This increases use of trunk muscles and helps with movement later on in development.
