Today we are launching together with Threshold Ireland and the Union of Students in Ireland to promote awareness about rental scams in Ireland. ⚠️🏡

These are our top tips to avoid being scammed. ⬇️

1⃣ Inspect the Property in Person ➡️Whenever possible, visit the property in person and take a picture of the landlord’s or letting agent’s photo identification before making any payments. Avoid only relying on online photos or virtual tours.

2⃣ Use Secure Payment Methods ➡️Use secure payment platforms or methods that offer you protection. Avoid making cash payments or transferring money directly to someone without verifying their identity and always try to see the property in person before paying.

3⃣ Ask for a Contract ➡️ Request a written contract (also known as a license or tenancy agreement) that clearly explains the terms and conditions of the rental agreement,including rent amount, deposit and any additional fees.

4⃣ Do Trust Your Instincts ➡️ If something seems too good to be true, trust your instincts and investigate further before making any payment. Scammers will often try to rush you into making decisions but take your time and do your research.

IMPORTANT REMINDER: Non-EEA student and graduates can now renew their visa up to 12 weeks in advance of their IRP card expiring.

IMMIGRATION UPDATE: If you have applied to renew your visa, but do not yet have your IRP card, you may still be able to travel over the Christmas period (from 9 December 2022 to 31 January 2023) using your expired IRP card.

However, you must have made your visa renewal application before your IRP card expired.

IMMIGRATION UPDATE: From July 2023, all non-EEA visa required students (people who need to apply for a visa to come to Ireland before they travel) who wish to study in Ireland will need to prove they have access to €10,000 per year of their studies (The current financial requirement is €7000).

Students who wish to study on a short course (6 months or less) will be required to have access to €700 per month.

A series of 4 live chat sessions start every Wednesday for the rest of August. we begin at 9:00 am Irish time and finish by 10:00am.

The aim of these live sessions is to answer as many of your questions as possible, with the hope this will ease your transition from your home to start your new college life in SETU, Waterford, Ireland.
