Official Launch of 'Roonagh Quay to Clare Island Charity Swim 2024.'

Newly Elected County Councillor, Chris Maxwell, recently launched a fundraising event for Order of Malta and Cystic Fibrosis Ireland. The event will take place when a group of 50 will swim from Roonagh Quay to Clare Island, a distance of 5.3 KM on August 10.

Local Councilor Chris Maxwell congratulated the participants saying, “It’s a great challenge which will raise money for two great charities, Cystic Fibrosis and Order of Malta, while bringing the community together. I wish all the participants a safe and enjoyable event and I congratulate them on their enthusiasm and community spirit.” Committee member Austin Keane said that the challenge, ‘is certainly a big ask, but it is also very rewarding to think of the charities that will benefit from the funds raised. It’s also important to recognize the support crew and the health and safety crew who are making this possible. We’re so grateful for all the support and help.”

The launch happened when the swimmers got together for a qualifying swim recently at Old Head.

The organizers are hoping that supporters will come out on the day to celebrate and contribute in any way. Donations can be made through the iDonate page https://www.idonate.ie/event/charityswim24

People can show support by donating online and also come out on the day, August 10, to cheer the swimmers ashore in Clare Island and celebrate.
