Atypical is one of those brilliant shows that explores the largely misunderstood world of autism, disability, and the struggle of coming to terms with sexuality.

Atypical is used to describe something that does not conform to the norm or that is irregular, such as an atypical behavior or an atypical action. So is the show Atypical, it goes about the life of a young teenager who has Autism and as he becomes ready to choose a career path and become more independent. He and his family go on a self discovery journey.

With wry humor, this show forces its audience to question what they think "normal" is. Here we bring you some cute incidents from the show. Comment down if you can relate to Sam or not?

Autism Spectrum Disorder is most commonly known as a series of neurological "disorders" that affect a person's ability to function and socialize in a "normal" way.

Autistic folks are subjected to various kinds of discriminations and are blamed for not being able to conform to the ableist, neurotypical standards and norms. They are often accused of being unapproachable, stoic and inflexible for not being willing and able to change their behaviours according to the needs of the allistic folks.

But however, the Double Empathy Problem theory suggests that it's wrong to put all the blame on the autistic folks because socialization is a two-way process. The theory is all about how allistic people are also inflexible when it comes to socializing with autistic folks and how an autistic person can communicate just as well with another autistic person as an allistic person can with another allistic person.

Misunderstandings between autistic folks and allistic folks happen because of the lack of mutual understanding and inability to change their behaviours.

Stuttering, or stammering, refers to a speech disorder that causes disruptions in the fluency of speech due to symptoms like involuntary repetition of words and temporary difficulties in uttering certain words or sounds. It requires treatment through speech therapy which may not be affordable for everyone affected by the condition.

And because we live in a highly judgemental, ability-normative society, people who stutter often face social discrimination and ostracism through mockery and bullying. We can hardly find any movies or series where a character who stammers isn't used just for comic relief.

And that's why the theme for International Stuttering Awareness Day 2022, “Being Seen, Being Heard: Representation and Normalisation of Stuttering in the Mainstream,” aims to highlight the fact that there are a lot of people who stutter and we as a society need to do a better job at making them feel safe and respected.

On October 20th, World Osteoporosis Day is celebrated every year to bring attention to this prevalent medical condition that affects the bones, mostly in middle aged and older people, and makes them so brittle that they can get fractured due to minor movements.

Spreading awareness about this condition can help people be more careful and improve their lifestyles so that they don't suffer from it.

This ADHD Awareness Month enabl.care and AuDHD_Therapist want to explain different options for including interests to increase success in ADHDers being able to begin, continue and complete a task!
One reminder we did not have in the post itself is - it’s okay to take breaks! If you need to start a task then pay attention to something else and come back to it; this can be helpful, as well.

While more and more people are talking about the importance of taking care of one's mental health and opting for various types of therapies, counseling and just asking for professional help when things are overwhelming, a lot of people just don't realise difficult it is to access the help for some people. And it's especially so in a developing country like ours.

Professional help is more often than not very expensive and a whole lot of people can't even afford to take breaks from their physically, mentally and emotionally exhausting jobs for the betterment of their health.

And even if we do have some financial stability, it's just not easy to find well-trained professionals that are sensitised and informed about the various types of discriminations like sexism, casteism, ableism, queerphobia, xenophobia etc.

That's why it becomes crucial for the countries all over the world to try and make the mental health services as accessible, inclusive and affordable as possible; to Make Mental Health & Well-being For All A Global Priority!

Excessive unwanted attention can make anyone feel uncomfortable, and disabled folks are subjected to it almost every time they step outside their houses.

As if disabled folks don't already get to go out often, being stared at makes things worse and can ruin the whole experience.

So please, refrain yourself from staring if you see a disabled person in public. It can be extremely harmful because it can lead to anxiety and social withdrawal and make the person's self-esteem to drop significantly.

: within purple and orange borders, on the left side of the white background are the texts "literally no one:
le abled people when they see a disabled person in public:" below which is picture of seven different cartoon animal characters with widened eyes, staring at something.

Every year, International Day of Sign Language is celebrated on September 23rd across the world, to support the development and preservation of sign language and to recognise the importance of being more accepting and inclusive towards the deaf, HoH, and non-speaking folks.

Since the theme for IDSL 2022 is 'Sign Languages Unite Us', let us amplify the voices of the sign language users all around the world by sharing their content on social media.
Because it can help us connect and UNITE with each other.

On September 21st, World Alzheimer’s Day is celebrated annually. On this day, we try and bring attention to Alzheimer’s disease, which is one of the most prevalent forms of dementia; a set of disorders that disrupt mental function. It is the perfect opportunity for us to raise our voices and find new ways of fighting the disease’s effects.
