POCO F1 REVIEW AFTER 2 YEARS OF USE

Intro:-

22 August 2018 was the day when Xiami's Sub-brand Poco announced its most anticipated and hyped mobile POCO F1 in the sub 30k segment with flagship grade specs which was never seen before in the smartphone market, where as the mobiles with snapdragon 800 series costs twice at that time. It took the smartphone market by storm and shock all other smartphone companies and forced them to think about the sub 30k segment seriously. Actually I also got one of this legendary set for 2 years as my primary mobile. Is it still worthy after having so many competitors after it and still selling .why? lets read..

* # Before starting the review please note that it is based on my personal experience . #*

DESIGN & DISPLAY:📱

Lets talk about the design here, as u know the mobile was launched in 3 colors blue, black & red(sorry I don't use the words like midnight black, ocean blue, blood red etc.) . I got the black one it has the ordinary polycarbonate back not the Kevlar one or armored edition and I am quite happy with it. It felt strong not the easily breakable plastic type. the phone houses the volume and power buttons on the right side and the sim tray on the left side, on the top it has one 3.5 mm audio jack along with the secondary microphone. At the back, this phone has a vertically positioned dual camera setup along with a dual-LED flash. Below the camera module is the fingerprint scanner. The positioning is perfect, and either of my index fingers can touch it naturally when I hold the Poco F1.The F1 does not have an IR emitter sadly, commonly seen on Xiaomi smartphones. At the bottom, it has a USB Type-C port and two grilles on either side, of which only the right one houses a loudspeaker. The phone weighs only 182g.

As u already know that the display size of Poco f1 is 6.18 inches and the aspect ratio is 18.7:9. It has FHD IPS LCD display with 1080*2246 pixels with 403ppi density and comes with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 for minor scratch protection. The display is 2.5D curved type. Over the period of two years i dropped my phone many times and yes it got minor scratches but not that visible or big scratches. The f1 has a notch at the top of the display which is quite big which houses an infrared camera for face recognition & one 20 megapixel selfie camera with ear piece. the border around the display is quite thick while the border at the bottom is thickest with one notification light which is very useful as we get to know about the notifications when the display is off and also it lights up when we charge the mobile. The viewing angles are good but as compared to the present era phones the display is looks like far behind. I have never felt any kind of eye problem after a long time of looking into the display. I generally use it for reading tech blogs reviews etc. for long period of time. Watching videos and movies feel good on it.

CAMERA:-📸

The dual camera setup consists of a 12-megapixel primary camera with an f/1.9 aperture, 1.4-micron pixels, and dual-pixel autofocus. The secondary camera is a 5-megapixel depth sensor with an f/2.0 aperture and 1.12-micron pixels. At the front, this phone has a 20-megapixel selfie shooter. The camera app on the Poco F1 is similar to what we have seen on other Xiaomi devices. Apart from the regular Photo and Video modes, it has Short Video, Portrait, Square, Panorama, and Manual modes. The Manual mode gives you control over white balance, focus, shutter speed and ISO. AI mode is enabled by default and helps the camera in scene detection. Photos on day light looks very good and details are sharp ,but if u know how to handle the manual mode then its not less than a DSLR camera. The selfie camera also takes awesome pics in day light ,but in Night both the cameras struggle a bit. Enable night mode for better results. The videos from it also looks good and thanks to the Electronic Stabilization mode.

PERFORMANCE:-📈

The Poco F1 sports a powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor with four cores clocked at 2.8GHz and the other four clocked at 1.8GHz. We can see the same processor in OnePlus 6T, LG Velvet etc. Xiaomi has designed a cooling system called ‘LiquidCool’ for this phone, using a copper chamber with vapour in it to dissipate heat. There are three RAM and storage variants: 6GB RAM with 64GB storage, 6GB RAM with 128GB storage, and 8GB RAM with 256GB of storage. I have the 6gb+128gb variant. From 128 GB the mobile consumes more than 10 GB of space. Poco has opted for LPDDR4X for RAM and UFS2.1 for storage. It has Bluetooth 5 and dual-band WiFi 802.11 b/g/n/ac. The Poco F1 is a hybrid dual-SIM device. It has support for 4G and VoLTE on both SIMs, which lets both SIMs be on a 4G network. 4G+ is also working now.

The Poco F1 delivers the power packed and seamless experience. It is fast and I never saw any lag or stutter until my storage is full, which is obvious. MIUI animations feels snappy. I never experienced apps getting killed in the background, and my poco f1(6GB RAM) has 3GB RAM free at all times. The display on the Poco F1 has good viewing angles and a vivid output. Xiaomi uses the earpiece with the speaker on the bottom for a stereo-like effect,it some how feels like stereo but not full stereo type effect.

SOFTWARE:-📶

In terms of software, the Poco F1 ships with the familiar MIUI, but with a new Poco theme. The phone currently runs MIUI 12.0.3 Global stable on top of Android 10. Poco F1 gets an app launcher right out of the box, something that is missing on MIUI-powered Xiaomi devices. You also get other MIUI features including Dual Apps which lets you run two instances of supported apps such as Whatsapp and other apps, and Second Space which lets you create a separate user profile. The Poco F1 has a Face Unlock feature that uses the infrared camera and emitter to scan your face. I found this feature to be very handy as it was quick to unlock the phone. Even in darkest places. You can change the order of the navigation buttons or disable them in favor of swipe gestures as gesture control also available. Overall the software is polished & simple to use ,u can uninstall most of the bloatware. The GLANCE on the lock screen is one of the unique initiative. The Themes are good and customizable. The security of the mobile is commendable. The one feature I liked the most is the MI Cloud which automatically stores ur images on cloud, so no fear of losing any memory.

BATTERY:-🔋

Poco f1 comes with 4000mAh battery, the company ships a Qualcomm Quick Charge 3 certified charger in the box to charge it up quickly. It is a 18w charger and charges the device fully charged in 1.5 hrs. Xiaomi has opted for LPDDR4X for RAM and UFS2.1 for storage. I played PUBG,ASPHALT-9 & CALL OF DUTY:MOBILE and the Poco F1 didn’t break a sweat. The device got warm after 30 mins of PUBG. What was also interesting was the battery drain. The battery will drain 7-10% after 30 mins of PUBG or similar graphic intensive games, which is more than acceptable. After 3 hours plus gaming the device needs to charge as the battery at that time will be below 20%. If u use it for watching movies then u can watch 5 movies at once, after that the battery still remains like 10%-15%. On simple usage the battery will last more than a day still with some juice in it.

Conclusion:-😪

The Poco F1 is still available on Amazon and Flipkart starting from Rs-15,999/- and is still in demand. After 2 years it is still feels like butter . It still comes under the best mobiles under 20k category. The sub 20k segment is now flooded with better machines but u can still rely on this BEAST as it gives an all round run for money whether that in camera or in performance sector. No doubt this is one of the Legendary machines who will remembered forever.

It may feel like a normal review rather than a long term review but I swear still after 2 years it performs as same as it was performing at the time I bought it.
