Literature laureate Pearl Buck was born in Hillsboro, West Virginia in the United States. She grew up in China, where her parents served as missionaries. She was raised bilingual, speaking both Chinese and English. Inspired by the country she grew up in, the recurring theme in her novels is everyday life in China. She describes a rich gallery of characters, trapped between tradition and modernity.
Pearl Buck was awarded the 1938 Nobel Prize in Literature "for her rich and truly epic descriptions of peasant life in China and for her biographical masterpieces".

International Women's Day WTC Womens Forum Bhubaneswar
Diversity is a fact, Inclusion is an Act
March 8th always brings in opportunities to create a difference on the day and also impact a change or though process to make the day eventful. Second year running we have been engaged in being activity partner for the WTC celebrations of the ladies group members.
This year keeping cognizance of the theme nd rhe synergy of the group which we have been activity participating as members, it was a joy to put together a fun filled evening with good learning and takeaways, thereby strengthening the bonds of the community of entrepreneurs. As the event was open to guests we had a diverse audience with guests from different groups and potential new members.
The activity we chose was zo introduce design thinking and sow the seeds of the process into any activity one might take up. with that goal in mind we reached out to a mumpreneur member ( the munpreneur platform being the womens community nurtured by bookturf) Ms.Pragnya Mishra from BEADS, and innovative ceramic studio right here in town.
The chief guest speaker was Ms.Akhila Anand,Inspector of Police, Cyber, CID, Crime Branch Cuttack who spoke on cyber security and safety and had us all have many aha moments. The eye opening Q&A interactive session gave us a wealth of awareness and takeaways of being safe online.
The address by Dr.Rina Routray, Advisor WTC Womens Forum, Bbsr had us reflecting on our roles as women and was very inspiring as the point brought home was taking time for self care and being ones own best friend.
The book turf team not only ensured registrations at the desk was smooth, but having reusable name tags ensured easy communication and conversation between the members and guests, and all appreciated the lovely idea, and also appreciated was the program flow which was managed by the bookturf. That being said we take the focus back to the activity of the day and the thinking ehind it and its outcome, the pictures narrate the joy of each team and here below is the thought process.
Entrepreneurship is a journey of continuous learning. To be successful, entrepreneurs must be willing to challenge the status quo and find creative solutions to the problems they face.
It is not just about having a great idea - it's about understanding the needs of the people you're trying to serve and creating a product that meets those needs. The key to success in product development is to start with user research and build your idea from there. Don't let your idea lead the way!
It was inspiring to witness Pragnya Mishra, Marketing Director - BEADS, lead a group of women entrepreneurs in an exercise to help them think outside of their comfort zone using Design Thinking. The challenge was to draw real-life objects or representations in at least 10 circles! It was amazing to see the creativity and teamwork of the participants as they worked together to complete the task.
Design thinking encourages creative problem-solving by allowing divergent and convergent thinking. This approach encourages us to think outside the box, be curious, and explore different possibilities. Every participant was able to understand and apply the concept, and we couldn't be more proud! Most importantly they enjoyed the process.
Bringing the event to a close with each team felicitated with a take away as there are no winners or losses but each one going away with new awareness and seeding of a new process. Followed by high tea it was one beautiful event of bonding learning and sharing.
During the session there was a another visitor who was at the venue and our bright team did meet her and take pictures, but as our event was in full swing meeting her did not happen. It was none other than Aasha Malviya a tribal young lady from Madhya Pradesh on a solo cycling stint across 28 states with the theme" Women safety and women empowerment"
Hats off to such an inspiring young lady who crossed our path and best wishes to her achieving her dreams and goals.
Since only 80 pics can be uploaded attendees can ping us for pictures. The vibrant joyous pics are around 160 so one can treasure happy memories of the day.
The Book Turf team is looking forward to being the activity partner this evening as the members of WTC and friends get together for an inspiring rendezvous of networking and knowledge share.

On the occasion of Tribal Pride Day , Janajatiya Gaurav Divas and Birth anniversary of illustrious Freedom Fighter and Tribal Leader revolutionary Birasa Munda, we were so happy to be invited to Jan Shikshan Sanstan by Director Ms.Nivedita Narula to preside over the days celebrations and inspire and felicitate participants of the debate competition hosted for the day.
It was truly so inspiring to see the depth of training and empowerment given to the students and their dedication and community at the center. The power of empowering another with a skill to enable them to be capable of their own livlihood was very inspiring to see when interacting with the students.
We wish Ms.Nivedita Narula ji all the very best in continuing to be so inspiring and uplifting the lives of so many. Spending time at the center and getting to see the amazing work and finished works of the students was a wonderful experience indeed.
