Did you know that Dr. Sananda Mukherjee is an alumnus of the Manipal Institute of Communication (PhD), Sharda University (Masters), Asutosh College, Calcutta University (Bachelors).
She has worked in advertising with big companies like Videocon, Amway, Goodyear Tyres, DLF, Amity University, and Delhi Police (Vigilance).
Prof. Mukherjee is passionate about teaching and researching advertising and health communication.

Our Graduate Dissertations transcend the classroom!
Three exceptional students from KIIT School of Mass Communication recently presented their dissertations at the 'Future Communications: Rethinking Societies, Cultures and Governance' 2024 International Conference at Pondicherry University from 8th to 10th April. Ms. Dishari Banerjee, a 4th-semester MCJ student, examined the challenges facing traditional retailers in the Indian fashion sector during the e-commerce era. Ms. Aditi Ranjan, also in her 4th semester of MCJ, analyzed the evolution and pattern of Amul Memes as an advertising tool from 2020-2022. Ms. Sharya Goonathilake, a 4th-semester BCJ student, explored menstruation awareness with a case study on Thirandukalyanam in Kerala under the guidance of Dr. Sananda Mukherjee. Their presentations were a resounding success, receiving valuable feedback and marking a significant milestone in their academic journey. Congratulations to Dishari, Sharya, Aditi, and Dr. Sananda Mukherjee for their remarkable achievement and for representing KIIT School of Mass Communication on an international platform.
KIIT School of Mass Communication successfully organized the 2nd National Conference on Viksit Bharat@2047: The Way Forward - Challenges and Prospects on March 30-31, 2024, in Bhubaneswar, Odisha!
The event brought together leading academicians, media professionals, and education experts to explore India's envisioned future in 2047 and the crucial roles of media and education in achieving that vision.
The inaugural session featured esteemed guests from KIIT Deemed to be University and beyond, both in person and virtually. Dignitaries included Prof. Saranjit Singh, Vice Chancellor, KIIT DU, and Prof. Jnyana Ranjan Mohanty, Registrar, KIIT DU, among others.
Thought-provoking plenary sessions and technical seminars highlighted key topics like "Viksit Bharat@2047: Decoding the Vision and Charting the Path" and "Amplifying Voices, Shaping Narratives: Media's Indispensable Role in Building Viksit Bharat@2047."
Student and industry presentations covered diverse subjects, contributing valuable insights and ideas to the discourse on Viksit Bharat. Topics included "Women Empowerment for Viksit Bharat: A Case Study of a Tribal Woman Journalist" and "Fostering Sustainable Development: Blueprint for Viksit Bharat."
The conference also explored "Media 2.0: Redefining Storytelling and Impact for Viksit Bharat@2047 with Technology," with insights from industry experts like Mr. Giridhari Mohanty, Director General of KIIT, and Ms. Tanaya Pattnaik, Executive Director of the Sambad Group.
The event concluded with a panel discussion on developing future leaders in education, featuring luminaries like KIIT International School Principal Dr. Sanjay Suar.
The valedictory session expressed gratitude to all participants and attendees, with certificates awarded to students for their outstanding paper presentations and active engagement in the conference.

We’re delighted to announce that Dr. Sananda Mukherjee, a faculty member at KIIT School of Mass Communication, has had two papers accepted for presentation at the upcoming International Association for Media and Communication Research (IAMCR) annual conference in Christchurch, the English Heritage city of New Zealand,from June 30th to July 4th, 2024.
One of Dr. Mukherjee’s papers, co-authored with MCJ fourth-semester student Ms. Aditi Ranjan, is titled “Decolonizing Health Practices in the Santhal Tribe of West Bengal: Understanding the Incorporation of Reiki Healing through Media Narratives.” This paper explores how media narratives influence the integration of Reiki healing practices within the Santhal Tribe’s cultural context in West Bengal. It highlights the transformative impact of social media on health communication dynamics and underscores the significance of traditional healing practices in indigenous communities.
Her second paper, co-authored with Ms. Chinmoyee Deka, is titled “Traditional Medicine, Climate Change, and Sustainability: A Human Ecology Approach in Assam, India.” This paper examines the impact of climate change on traditional medicine in Northeast India, emphasizing the need to conserve medicinal plants for public health and advocating for a human ecological approach.
We’re also pleased to share that Dr. Sananda Mukherjee has been awarded the IAMCR Travel Grant of USD 2000 to present her paper at the conference. This is a significant accomplishment for our institution, and we extend our heartfelt congratulations to Dr. Mukherjee and her co-authors, wishing them a highly stimulating academic experience at IAMCR 2024.

Dr. Panda recently participated in the ICSSR Sponsored Two Week Capacity Building Programme at GGSIPU, New Delhi, where he had an enriching time interacting with participants from across India. Delving into the realms of Data Visualization and Digital Humanities during his session on 21st March, Dr. Panda shared valuable insights and expertise, contributing significantly to the academic community.
Furthermore, he was honored as a plenary session speaker and chair of a technical session at the National Seminar sponsored by ICSSR at Vivekananda Institute of Professional Studies, New Delhi, on 20th March. In collaboration with Odisha Women Media (OWM), UNICEF recently organized a round table discussion in Bhubaneswar on March 1st, focusing on the portrayal of children in the media. The event emphasized the importance of children's rights and responsible storytelling in media representation. Distinguished experts such as UNICEF's William Hanlon Jr., Ajay Singh, Sandeep Sahu, and OWM's Kasturi Ray came together to discuss the significant role that media plays in shaping perceptions about children, along with the challenges involved in this portrayal.
Students from the MCJ program at KIIT School of Mass Communication actively participated in the interactive session and showcased their talents. Dr. Rajeev Kumar Panda, Associate Professor & Associate Dean of the department, also shared his insights during the discussion.
The event highlighted the power of the media in empowering young voices and underscored the need for responsible and positive storytelling. It served as a platform for students to engage with experts and contribute to meaningful discussions on the portrayal of children in the media, ultimately aiming to create a more inclusive and respectful representation of children in media narratives.

In a significant stride towards fostering climate consciousness in Odisha, Dr. Rajeev Kumar Panda, Associate Professor and Associate Dean at KIIT School of Mass Communication (KSMC), played a pivotal role as a panelist during the "Climate Conversations: Media Round Table on Climate Policy & Action" held at the Press Club of Odisha in Bhubaneswar on February 17, 2024.
The event, organized by VIEWS, Bhubaneswar, and supported by the US Consulate General, Hyderabad, witnessed Dr. Panda shedding light on the commendable climate initiatives adopted by KIIT University's Green Campus. Driven by the visionary leadership of Dr. Achyuta Samanta, the Founder of KIIT and KISS, the Green Campus has become a beacon of sustainability, showcasing best practices that can be emulated for a greener future.
As a part of the panel discussion, students specializing in Convergent Journalism from the Master of Communication and Journalism program actively participated in the discourse on climate change, underscoring its urgency in the current global scenario.
The session, chaired by Ms. Rakhi Ghosh, a Senior Journalist, provided a platform for diverse perspectives on climate policy and action. Dr. Panda emphasized the need for collaborative efforts to address environmental challenges and shared insights into the innovative measures implemented by KIIT University.
Among the distinguished panel members were Mr. Stalin Nayak from Youth4water Plus, Mr. Satyabrata Samal, the founder of Sattvik Soul, and Mr. S. Bheema Rao, Executive Director of VIEWS. The collective expertise of the panelists contributed to a comprehensive discussion, exploring effective strategies for combating climate change and promoting sustainability.
Dr. Rajeev Kumar Panda's presence as a representative of KSMC at this esteemed round table reinforced the commitment of KIIT University to inspire positive environmental actions, setting a benchmark for educational institutions actively contributing to the global climate discourse.
