From Hardship to Hope: A Corporate Success Story of Transformation through Education
In the face of adversity, Saurabh's journey from hardship to hope is a testament to the transformative power of corporate social responsibility. Early on, he faced the loss of his mother, becoming his father's sole responsibility. Hindered by a lack of support and challenging circumstances, education remained a distant dream.
The Restoration of Street and Working children project was a joint venture between World Vision India and a reputed company which creates and sells connectors, cables, and interconnect systems for electronics in Pune. This initiative aims to create a safer and more protected environment for children in the slums, addressing their safety, education, sanitation, and hygiene needs that work to ensure that children have a safer and protected environment.
Saurabh's story took a positive turn as project staff conducted motivational sessions, closing the gap between his aspirations and reality. Joining the project's tuition centre marked a pivotal turning point, transforming him from a shy youngster into a confident and outgoing individual with untapped potential. He is now a poignant example of the impact achievable through corporate partnerships.
Today, he stands as a beacon of inspiration, embodying the success of collaborative efforts. His story, along with 60 other transformed lives, showcases the potential for corporate initiatives to open doors to a more hopeful and appreciative future of countless young minds by creating awareness on the importance of education whilst guiding parents, to enrol their children in school.
Aspire for Empowerment: Illuminating Lives in Ilanthiraikondan
In the rural village of Ilanthiraikondan, Muthuselvi's success story unfolds as a beacon of resilience and transformation. Facing the dual challenges of being the sole breadwinner and managing chronic health issues within her family, Muthuselvi's journey reflects the impact of targeted intervention in the form of a goat rearing initiative.
Muthuselvi's struggle was compounded by irregular and meagre income from various daily-wage jobs, leaving her family in a precarious financial situation. The absence of perennial rivers in their village led them to rely on dry land cultivation for their livelihood, a practice that offered limited economic stability.
Amidst these challenges, Aspire Systems and World Vision India recognized the need for sustainable solutions. They stepped in during the challenging times of the COVID-19 pandemic, providing Muthuselvi with a grant of INR 18,000 to establish a Goat Rearing unit. This support enabled Muthuselvi to initiate a successful goat rearing venture. Over time, she not only became a proficient goat farmer but also generated a consistent income of INR 45,000 to 50,000 every six months by selling the kids.
This venture not only lifted the family from the hand-to-mouth situation but also resulted in the acquisition of assets worth INR 1,50,000 in the form of goats.
“Today I stand as a confident woman being the only bread winner of my family. My hope is renewed, and I believe that I can give the best to my children and my husband. My self-value and worth in my extended family and my community has increased and I am immensely thankful for the support that lifted me out of the difficult situation. My family and I are very grateful to Aspire Systems and World Vision India,” she says.
Muthuselvi's success story stands as a compelling example of how targeted corporate interventions. As we celebrate her achievements, we recognize the broader potential of such initiatives in fostering positive change within vulnerable communities.
Embodying Resilience
Deshraj and Babli's story is a testament to the transformative power of community and unwavering determination. Despite battling polio, their dream for their children shines bright — education and a future in healthcare.
World Vision India steps into this narrative, offering a lifeline through a livelihood recovery program. In September 2021, we provided the family with two goats and essential training in goat farming. This intervention seamlessly integrated into their lives, becoming a catalyst for change.
From a humble mud house, their home is now a sanctuary of dreams. "The gift of goats has changed our lives by increasing our income. We invested the money on food, education, and providing for the needs of the children," Deshraj expresses with gratitude.
The success story of Deshraj's family is not just about financial gains; it's a testament to the power of community support and resilience. Through the lens of this family, we witness the transformative impact of a simple yet profound initiative. The goats not only brought economic stability but also became integral members of the household, creating bonds that transcend monetary value.

Water Wheels!
In villages where clean water access was a daily struggle, a pressing need for change existed. Fetching water from deep wells was not just arduous; it was risky for both adults and children, and it consumed valuable time.
World Vision India provided water wheels to over 200 families, which can hold 45 litres of water. This simple intervention has dramatically reduced the frequency of risky well visits, significantly enhancing safety.
This change has given women the gift of time to spend with their children. The impact extends to education as well. With the burden of water collection lightened, children can now attend school regularly, opening doors to a more promising future.
In addressing a basic need, this intervention has created a meaningful impact in these communities. A small change to a Big Impact.

“Every other day he would come home fully drunk and it seemed like that it was the end of our marriage,” says 30-year-old Chandrakala, from Chevuturu, Andhra Pradesh. Her husband Raj Kishore (33) was known in the village as a drunkard, until he attended the Men-Care Model (MCM) training, that changed everything.
The purpose of MCMs was to help the men understand their role as husbands and fathers in building their families and helping them provide a better future for their children.
Kishore participated in this four-day training were he and other men in his community were sensitised on gender equality, alcoholism and domestic violence. Though at the end of the program Kishore realised the importance of his role he still found it very difficult to let go this habit.
One day, Samuel (9 months), their son was down with Pneumonia and was hospitalised for more than three months. Kishore had no money to meet the expenses and his friends couldn’t trust him with money either. “Those were the days when I paid the price for my unruly life. Finally, World Vision helped me with a sum of Rupees 40,000 to pay the hospital bill. If not for World Vision, my son would not be alive now,” he says. Samuel’s health improved and Kishore never touched alcohol again.
“I could not believe it initially. I never thought we would live happily again. But today, he became more understanding and started spending more time with Samuel and me. He gives me the money he earns. All thanks to the MCM training he attended,” says Chandrakala.
This testimony of Kishores is one of the many such miracles you would witness across the country due to our timely interventions. And none of them would’ve been possible without the support of our committed sponsors.
Thanks to our sponsors for reaching out to hundreds of Samuels across the country. This Father’s Day you too can become a Child Sponsor.

As India marks Labour Day 2023, more than 10.1 million children are in child labour. These children are deprived of their right to go to school, exposing them to violence and reinforcing intergenerational cycles of poverty.
Yet, this serious violation of child rights is preventable through integrated approaches addressing poverty and inequity and improving access to quality of education. This Labour Day is a clarion call for us to respect children and their rights.
Together let’s create opportunities for children to learn and grow.

Across India, children are facing the impacts of the climate crisis - heatwaves, coastal erosion and ecosystem degradation.
Heatwaves affect children's health, environments, safety, nutrition, access to water, education and future.
We must commit to ensure we are doing everything possible to prepare children to live in a climate-changed world.
World Vision India urges governments, major corporations and civil societies to protect children and vulnerable communities from worsening heatwaves and other climate shocks.
Meet our children at a Remedial Education Centre in a community we serve in the city of Jaipur, Rajasthan
The Remedial Education Centre (REC) is set up by World Vision India for learning support of children between the ages of 6 and 11 years. Each centre has a teacher and free classes are given for two hours each day.
Not being able to cope with studies is also a reason why many children drop out of schools. RECs bridge this gap for children in our communities so that every child enjoys learning and has an opportunity to excel. World Vision India's Remedial Education Centres (REC) help children attain age-appropriate learning and ensure they do not lag behind their peers.

"Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much." - Helen Keller
World Vision India serves more than 26 lakh children and their families in over 5345 communities spread across 24 states and one union territory to address issues affecting children. And we do this together with governments, civil societies, donors and corporates.
The recent pandemic has underscored the fact that, when we destroy biodiversity, we destroy the system that supports human life.
This is the first time a global generation of children will grow up in a world made far more dangerous and uncertain as a result of a changing climate and degraded environment.
We must act now to ensure the rights of children and future generations to a safe and healthy environment in which they can thrive to their fullest potential.

It’s Earth Day! This is the time to talk with friends, parents and grandparents about the type of world we want to create - and how we’re going to get there.
Let’s get introduced to Amit as he shares tips on how anyone can promote environmental stewardship in the community.
Amit (13 years old), dreams of a utopian world where the land is green and the birds sing from the trees. At his family’s land, just behind his house, he has the perfect canvas to make that dream come true. “If we cut down one tree, we need to plant two trees,” says Amit. His enthusiasm for planting trees was not always there. He had acquired this from the environment classes at his children club that meets once a week.
‘Why are Trees Called Our Friend’ is the theme of the activity book designed by World Vision India for children. The book has eight modules on the environment. It takes roughly three months to complete all the learnings and activities in the book.
Children learn about the different names of plants and trees through the activity book. They are encouraged to go outdoors, find trees and plants they are unaware of, and get help from elders to identify them. They are encouraged to collect leaves or fruits of plants and trees native to the place and list their economic and medicinal values. Through this interactive community learning process, parents and elders can pass down their traditional knowledge to the children.
As part of the Activity book on environment exercises, 5000 children received two saplings each from World Vision India, adding 10,000 potential trees to the arid, ailing land.
World Vision India’s programs across 24 states in the country are working on sustainable, climate focused solutions for children. Because climate crisis is a child's rights crisis. This 🌏 and every day, we must all take action to address the climate crisis. Let’s create a better world for future generations!
Join us and amplify the need for climate action that protects, prepares and prioritizes children

The sweltering heatwave that has built across the country since March has in recent days forced several Indian states to close down schools, change schooling hours, revive lockdown-era online classes and bring forward annual summer vacations. As a result, children have been cut off from their regular education routine and the other vital benefits schools provide.
Every hour in school is precious, and every child should be given the opportunity to be in schools. School closures have devastating consequences for children’s learning and wellbeing. The most vulnerable children and those unable to access remote learning are at an increased risk of never returning to the classroom and even being forced into child marriage or child labor. Even short disruptions in a child’s schooling have significant negative effects on their learning and can be long-lasting.
Heat waves, cold waves, forest fires, flash floods and other phenomena in recent years have sparked greater awareness about preserving the planet. Events like Earth Day are a chance to continue alerting communities of the urgent need to take measures to halt the devastation.
World Vision India is working with government schools across the country on programs to share information about ways to stay safe while learning and helping various states across India to create heat action plans, which help schools determine risk levels at different temperatures. It’s high time the country needs to do more to make its schools resilient to climate change and this Earth Day is a reminder for all us!
