Pavetta indica
is an evergreen shrub or small tree that can grow from 3 - 5 metres tall The plant has a range of medicinal uses and other minor traditional uses. It is often cultivated as an ornamental.Grows best in a sunny position, preferring a humus-rich, well-drained soil.Many Pavetta species, including this one, produce leaves with bacterial nodes - these bacteria live in symbiosis with the plant and pass into any seeds that are produced, thus seedlings are already inoculated with the bacteria. It is not certain what function the bacteria play, theories include nitrogen-fixation, growth-regulation and making the leaves poisonous to livestockThe fruit has a sweet taste when ripe, and is also used as a condiment when kept in vinegar.The root is considered aperient, diuretic, purgative and tonic It is prescribed in the treatment of intestinal obstructions, constipation, jaundice, headache, urinary diseases and dropsy

Pteridophytes[Ferns] of western Ghats

About 12,000 species of pteridophytes occur in the world flora of which around 1000 species are distributed in different bio geographical regions of India with the main centers being the Himalayas, the Western Ghats and the Eastern Ghats. The Western Ghats harbor about 320 species of ferns and fern allies with more species diversity in the southern part. Fossils
Living fossils are actually one the best evidences for comparison for several specimens of widely different ages. During the floristic study in Bodi Hills range of the Southern Western Ghats in Theni district of Tamil Nadu, identified and documented the presence of three living fossil plants in abundant in this region. They are Psilotum, Equisetum and Cyathea.

Swamp
