Happy Women's Day from Orphan Outreach India: Celebrating Women's Strength and Resilience
Sushil Singh is a 12-year-old boy who lives with his parents and 5 siblings in Chattarpur, Delhi. His parents migrated from Nepal and have been living in Chattarpur for many years. Sushil's father works as a building caretaker in one of the buildings in Chattarpur enclave phase 2. Sushil is currently in 6th grade at Acharya Tulsi Government Sarvodaya Bal Vidyalaya. Unfortunately, his mother has been sick for a long time and the family is fully dependent on his father's income alone.
Sushil wants to learn computers and do further studies, but due to financial constraints, he is unable to attend private computer institutes. One day, he heard about the computer unit of OOI and went with his father to inquire about their program and fee structure. Sushil was happy to learn that the fees were minimal compared to other places and insisted that his father admit him. However, his father was unable to pay even the minimum fee, so the OOI staff suggested that he apply for a concession.
After verifying his family's financial situation, OOI agreed to give Sushil a concession on his computer program fee. He now receives a 1-hour practical session with his teacher Jyoti Tete and feels confident with his friends and schoolwork. Sushil is grateful to OOI for their provisions and support
Anjali, a 16-year-old girl hailing from a small village in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, presently resides in Chattarpur Enclave Phase 2 along with her parents and two siblings. Her brother, Nakul, is also a student at OOI, pursuing a computer course. While Anjali's father works as a whitewasher for buildings in the Chattarpur area, the family still struggles to meet their financial needs.
Anjali harbors a keen interest in tailoring and often wondered about the intricacies involved in designing and creating different types of garments. She aspires to learn these techniques to be able to make unique clothing designs and contribute to her family's income. However, when she attempted to gain admission to various sewing technology training institutes, she discovered that the course fees were exorbitant and beyond her means.
Fortunately, Anjali stumbled upon the OOI (Orphan Outreach India) Sewing Technology Unit, which offered the same course at a substantially lower cost. Additionally, she secured a scholarship to cover her fees, enabling her to pursue her dream of learning the techniques of sewing and designing clothes. Under the guidance of her teacher, Neha Geordon, Anjali is currently engaged in mastering the art of sewing and design. She anticipates completing the course within six months and hopes to leverage her newly acquired skills to improve her family's financial situation.
Orphan Outreach India's Sewing Technology Unit Training under the Women Empowerment Program is a remarkable initiative that is empowering underprivileged women and girls with valuable skills to succeed in the competitive market. This training equips participants with essential sewing tools, machines, fabrics, and techniques to create custom-fit garments and other items. By offering entrepreneurship, budgeting, and marketing lessons, this program is transforming the lives of underprivileged women and girls by providing them with the opportunity to become self-reliant and financially independent. Through this program, participants can start their businesses, find employment, or even launch their own fashion labels, contributing to their families' and communities' economic growth.
