Dental caries or cavities are the MOST common disease in young children. When left untreated cavities can lead to pain, infection and difficulty in eating. Keeping this in mind, we conducted a dental check for the students of The Study at East of Kailash. We had a wonderful time interacting with the little ones and educating them about correct brushing.

Your child’s oral health has a crucial role in the development of their teeth and jaws.
Seeing this a dental camp was conducted at St. Mary’s school by the team of dentists at Dr Khosla’s dental clinic.
We noticed a high incidence of caries, especially among the students of primary section.
Here are a few tips to maintain good oral hygiene.
1. Brushing twice daily with fluoridated toothpaste.
2. Rinsing mouth with water after every meal.
3. Avoid sticky snacks- sweet and savoury snacks that stick to the teeth can be avoided
4. Avoid aerated drinks. Water is the best drink for everyone!
5. Visit your dentist every 6 months.

When Mr Sharma walked in to our clinic he had only one request- help me enjoy my favourite chaat!
It took many hours of treatment planning, ex*****on and delivery to help him get the teeth he deserved.
The day had finally arrived- Mr Sharma was getting his new teeth fitted. And he couldn’t be happier. This smile does say it all! We helped him with implant supported bridges. These feel and function as close to natural teeth as possible. 😊

A word of caution - DIY or at home aligners are not recommended by dentists. Orthodontic tooth movement like any other medical procedure MUST be carried out by a certified doctor at a dental clinic. This is not something to try out at home!

Is scaling harmful for your teeth?
Absolutely not. Our patients are often concerned about routine dental scaling or cleaning damaging their teeth. When performed by a trained dental practitioner scaling causes absolutely no damage. It is essential to remove the hardened deposits around our teeth and gums(this is called dental calculus or tartar). Your dentist can recommend a cleaning schedule best suited to you.
Google tells me that the most frequently asked question about oral health is - Which toothpaste should I use?
Flouride is the gold standard ingredient for preventing cavities and maintaining enamel health. There have been concerns regarding its toxicity especially when ingested in higher amounts. Topical application of flouride (which includes its use in toothpastes, mouthwashes and varnishes) has shown NO side effects.
If you are concerned about the flouride in your toothpaste look out for a toothpaste with NANO HYDROXYAPATITE. This is what forms the building block of our teeth and helps remineralise tooth enamel.

Popping a pill for a toothache? Here’s why that is never a good idea.
Dental pain can have a variety of causes. This is best diagnosed by a dental health provider through a combination of clinic examination and X-rays (or other diagnostic tests). By taking antibiotics and painkillers without consulting your dentist you can suppress a deep infection. Medication can help your symptoms very temporarily and they will flare up as soon as you stop them!
So please don’t ignore dental pain. Take an appointment immediately and follow the prescription given by your dentist.

Do you reach out for a glass of fruit juice believing it to be a better choice over a cola?
While fruit juices do offer more nutrients than colas they are also very high in sugar. Most fruit juices are also acidic in nature. This combination of sugar + acid is terrible for your teeth.
Sports drinks - I’ve never seen anyone have one glass of Gatorade! The typical serving size is a 20 oz bottle. This has a whopping 8 teaspoons of sugar! What is worse is that we often sip these drinks through our workout exposing tooth enamel to high quantities of sugar over a longer period of time.
Iced tea - Tea is a wonderful beverage packed with antioxidants. We tend to negate its benefits while consuming sweetened iced tea. This is such an easy drink to make at home! That way we can control the amount of sugar we add.
Most of us know that coffee stains our teeth. What is surprising is that TEA can stain our teeth more than coffee! Black tea can cause brownish stains whereas green tea leads to a more grey looking stain.
How can you reduce staining due to tea and coffee?
- drink it through a straw. This is hard to do for hot drinks but if iced tea or coffee is what you are drinking then use a straw! It minimises the contact between your drink and your teeth.
- add ice. Adding ice dilutes then staining components in tea and coffee
- add milk. Drinking black tea and coffee is far more likely to cause teeth staining. Adding milk dilutes the staining components and causes less staining.
- if you only drink hot tea or coffee then my suggestion would be to drink as fast as you can. Sipping these drinks through the day allows the stain to settle on your teeth for a longer period of time
- most importantly make sure you rinse out your mouth after finishing your cup of tea or coffee!
