Question - How do I determine if my gain or loss is a short-term or long-term capital gain or a loss?

Answer - Two types of gain or loss we incurred in Income tax.

One is short term and another one is long term.

The one who realise within a period of 12 months or less is termed as short term.

The one who realise after 12 months, termed as long term.

In Income Tax, section 54 is specified for this.

For calculation purpose you can refer the above specified section.

Please note - It is for long term capital gain on shares. However, for other assets it is 24 months.
